Cordless mitre saw buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are standing in a UK hallway with a length of skirting, a piece of 4x2, and a shortlist of cordless saws that all say the battery is sold separately. This cordless mitre saw buying guide puts the stated cross-cut and the battery family ahead of the watt figure on the Amazon table. The five bodies on our [cordless mitre saw comparison](/hub/power-saws/cordless-mitre-saw) were listed on amazon.co.uk from £109.49 to £333.99 on 19 October 2026, before any pack or charger. Peter F. compared those listings. There was no lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the cut, not the watts

The number that decides the job is the cross-cut the listing states at 90 degrees: how tall a piece it claims to sever, and how wide. A watt row that says 120 W or 144 W on a 36 V saw is not that measurement, and it should not be the first thing you compare. In this set the figures, where they exist, are quite different. The DeWalt DCS365N-XJ bullets claim 50 mm by 250 mm. The Evolution R185SMS-Li bullets claim 210 mm by 58 mm. The Einhell TE-SM 36/210 highlight claims 65 mm by 310 mm. The 254 mm Einhell, part 4300885, claims 340 mm wide and 85 mm thick. The small Einhell TE-MS 18/210 is not described as a slider, and the raw listing does not state a cross-cut width at all. If your board is wider than the blade can reach in one drop, you need the slide. The DeWalt’s 50 mm depth claim will not swallow a 4x2 stood on edge, and the 82 mm skirting line in those bullets is a count of cuts, not a depth. Skirting against those figures is on the mitre saw for skirting page.

One battery family

Every kept listing is body only. “Solo”, “without battery” and “tool only” all mean the same thing on these pages: you are buying the saw, and the pack and charger are a second bill. The Einhell 18 V text recommends a Power X-Change pack of 2.5 Ah or higher. Both 36 V Einhells need two 18 V PXC packs, not one larger cell. The DeWalt uses one 18 V XR pack. The Evolution uses an Erbauer EXT pack. Those three families do not share packs. A full PXC shelf does not run the DeWalt, and an XR kit does not run either Einhell. Accessory prices are not in the raw files, so this page will not invent them. That split is the whole of the 18 V versus 36 V mitre saw page.

Bevel, laser and dust

These listings describe a head that tilts one way, or they leave a double bevel unclear. The small Einhell tilts left. The TE-SM 36/210 tilts to 45 degrees. The Evolution bevel is 0 to 45 degrees. The 254 mm Einhell highlight says “+/-47°” in a messy line. Do not treat that as a proven double bevel. When the head only tilts one way, you flip the board. That is a nuisance on long skirting and it is normal on this class of saw. Einhell lists a laser and an LED. Evolution casts a blade shadow. DeWalt calls its line XPS and says it needs no adjustment. None of those is proof the fence is square. One UK review of the TE-SM 36/210 wanted 30 degrees and found the indicator nearer 35 degrees once the cut was actually right. A UK review of the small Einhell said the bag collected nothing in a week of use. At work, wood dust sits under COSHH, and local exhaust ventilation needs a thorough examination at least every 14 months. The Health and Safety Executive publishes 5 mg/m³ for softwood dust and 3 mg/m³ for hardwood. Those are workplace limits, not a fine for a Saturday shelf.

Fields you should not trust

Amazon tables on these listings sometimes contradict the title. The Evolution table says 240 V on a cordless Erbauer EXT saw. The TE-SM 36/210 table says 144 W and a 30 cm blade, while the highlight says 210 mm and the saw is a 36 V slider. The 254 mm Einhell table says 120 W and lists the blade material as aluminium. The small Einhell model name says 210 mm and the table says 219 mm. The DeWalt table lists body dimensions of 25.2 by 22.1 by 15.8 cm for a saw whose weight is 12.5 kg. Use the capacity bullet or the item highlight, and treat the broken field as a conflict. Trust 4.7 from 557 on the DeWalt, and 4.5 from 677 or 606 on the two smaller Einhells, more readily than 4.2 from 26 on the Evolution or 4.5 from 56 on the 254 mm Einhell when only three of those texts are marked United Kingdom. If the guard does not close, stop. One UK review of the small Einhell describes a guard fault.

Common questions

Is a sliding saw worth it if I only cut 4x2?
Often no. A fixed-head saw such as the Einhell TE-MS 18/210 is the one reviewers used for ordinary DIY and for 4x2 when spare batteries were available. A slide earns its place when the piece is wider than a single drop of the blade, which is why the other four listings are sold as sliders. You still pay for two packs on the 36 V Einhells, so a slide is not free just because the timber is small.
Does solo mean no battery?
Yes, on all five of these amazon.co.uk listings. The box is the saw, and in some cases a blade, a bag or clamps. The Einhell and DeWalt titles say the battery is not included. The Evolution bullets say the EXT pack is sold separately. Buyers who skipped that line were surprised. Budget the pack before you compare the sticker with a corded saw.
Will my existing packs fit?
Only if they are the same family. Einhell PXC packs fit the three Einhell saws, with two packs required on the 36 V models. DeWalt 18 V XR fits the DCS365. Erbauer EXT fits the Evolution. They do not interchange. A higher amp-hour pack gives more runtime on the same saw. It does not turn one brand into another, and it does not fill a second battery bay.
Is a bigger blade always better?
No. A 254 mm blade is what you look at when you need the 85 mm thickness and 340 mm width those bullets claim. If your work is skirting laid within a 50 mm or 65 mm depth, the smaller DeWalt or the 210 mm Einhell slider already states a cut, and both have far more amazon.co.uk reviews. The extra diameter also means a heavier body: the 254 mm Einhell is listed at 13.8 kg.
Do I need extraction for a home cut?
A bag will not keep a room clean. One UK review of the small Einhell said the bag caught nothing. A port lets you attach a vacuum, which is the practical step at home. If you employ people, a bag is not local exhaust ventilation, and wood-dust limits and the 14-month LEV examination come from the Health and Safety Executive, not from the sales bullet.
