Gas griddle buying guide

Updated: 16.10.2026

The title on a gas griddle listing is already arguing with another field on the same page. Another says portable, then sits at a weight you would not carry. This gas griddle buying guide is the order of those decisions: own burner, named gas fitting, heat figures that agree, then the kilograms. Prices and stars are on the [gas griddle comparison](/hub/portable-grills/gas-griddle). The Products Compared editorial team read these amazon.co.uk listings on 15 October 2026. This is not a lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are actually buying

A gas griddle here means a flat plate with its own burner. It is not a grate over charcoal, and it is not a pan for a hob you already own. Hob plates and grate inserts were left out for that reason. The Othello is a cartridge plancha, not a patio-gas cooker, on the listing. The ROVSUN is the propane tabletop under £100. The Buffalo’s title and wattage field disagree. The BIG HORN shows 10 kW and an empty fuel line. The last Onlyfire is the cart.

Gas family and the UK regulator

Liquid Gas UK puts butane at 28–30 mbar and propane at 37 mbar. Calor describes green 5 kg and 13 kg patio-gas bottles and a 27 mm clip-on on most barbecues. If a listing only says gas, it has not chosen the bottle. The ROVSUN is the clearest propane row, the only listing under £100, and the only one whose included-components field names a regulator. Pressure and thread are unstated. The Othello names a Campingaz CV 470 Plus, not included. One review describes a swap onto another supply. Do not treat that swap as the design. If you need the fitting named before you pay, drop the blank rows, then match a job on the best gas griddle page.

Burners, stated heat, and figures that disagree

Burner count splits the plate. It is not a temperature. Extra burners help when you want two heats at once. They do not repair a figure that disagrees with itself. The ROVSUN is the worked example. The wattage field says 4.8 kW. The bullets say 20,000 BTU. Both are printed, and this guide will not invent a third number to reconcile them. If you need the heat figures to agree, skip this row, even though it is the one under £100 with a regulator in the box list. The Buffalo title says 7.5 kW. The wattage field says 2,560 W. Keep both, and do not average them. The BIG HORN field says 10 kW on four burners, with no fuel named, so the figure is not tied to a bottle.

Lid, plate, and whether you can lift it

A lid is a cover, not extra burners and not a smoker. The open Onlyfire is £139.99 and 15.5 kg, with no lid listed. The PGL300 is £189.99 and 17.9 kg, with a lid and a thermometer. Stated power stays 4.7 kW. Take the lid only if you will use it. Portable means the kilograms. These listings run from 7.1 kg to 23.4 kg. At 15.5 kg the open Onlyfire is already a lift onto a table, and 23.4 kg is a cart, not a stove you walk to a pitch. The word in the title does not change the number.

Common questions

Propane, butane, or either, if the listing just says gas?
If the listing only says gas, it has not chosen. Liquid Gas UK puts butane at 28–30 mbar and propane at 37 mbar. A blank family is not permission to try either cylinder. Hamilton Gas Products tells you to read the appliance instructions. If those instructions are not in the listing you are paying for, skip the row rather than guessing the clip.
Does a green patio-gas bottle need a 27 mm clip-on at 37 mbar?
Calor describes green 5 kg and 13 kg patio-gas bottles and a 27 mm clip-on on most barbecues. Hamilton Gas Products and Liquid Gas UK both put propane and patio gas at 37 mbar, against 28–30 mbar for butane. That is the usual outdoor match. It is still not printed as the pressure on the ROVSUN, so a regulator in the box is not, by itself, that clip-on.
How many burners for two people, and for a crowd?
For two people, look at the Othello’s single cartridge zone or a two-burner tabletop, and still accept either the cartridge or the ROVSUN’s split heat figures. For a crowd, the Buffalo’s three-burner title and the BIG HORN’s four-burner, 10 kW field claim the area. Both still conflict: 7.5 kW against 2,560 W, and an empty fuel field. More burners do not fill those blanks.
Is a lid worth the extra weight on the Onlyfire pair?
Only if you want the cover and the thermometer. Stated heat stays 4.7 kW on the open Onlyfire at £139.99 and 15.5 kg, and on the lidded listing at £189.99 and 17.9 kg. You take on £50 and another 2.4 kg, and the gas family is still unnamed. The lid does not add a burner. If you will not use it, the extra weight is the wrong trade.
Is Amazon’s Propane Grills rank the same as a data plate?
No. A best-sellers rank is the shelf Amazon filed the product under. On the BIG HORN the fuel field is empty, and 10 kW in the wattage field does not name propane, 37 mbar, or a 27 mm clip-on. Treat the rank as a browsing category. The data plate is the fuel field, and on that listing the fuel field is blank.
