Self-adhesive pool patch vs glue

Updated: 21 October 2026

You can see the pin hole, the paddling pool is empty enough to work, and the basket is either peel-and-stick squares or a 60 ml bottle. A self-adhesive pool patch vs glue choice is a time and chemistry choice, not a piece-count contest. A sticker bonds with the adhesive already on it. A glue kit only works if you will ventilate and wait. Do not smear that glue onto a square unless the pack tells you to. The rows are on the [pool repair kit comparison](/hub/pool-care/pool-repair-kit). A purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What each box actually is

A no-glue pack in this set is Bestway, kaiheng, zhenye, D.A.Y. Republic, Lianshi, or HuakChai. Bestway is a 30-minute underwater claim. kaiheng is 12 hours, clean and dry, not for seams. zhenye keeps water off. Lianshi and HuakChai are tape with no glue bottle. Asticers is tape too, and the glue line is not stated, because UK reviews disagree with the bullets. A glue box here is Paistely or Aarovibe. Both state 60 ml and 24 hours. Aarovibe is about £5.99 and adds fifteen patches. Paistely is about £7.99 and does not state the patch count. Neither listing calls the kit two-part, and neither names MEK. The three types are set out on the pool repair kit buying guide.

Where stickers held and where they did not

Stickers are the faster box when the hole is a pin hole on a flat panel and that brand actually tacks. kaiheng’s UK reviews, inside 4.1 from 1,033, often say a small puncture held. The failures are curves, a seam tear, and a square that sticks once. Bestway’s sample, inside 4.1 from 2,032, also held on small punctures, beside thin adhesive. A hot-tub tear of about 6 mm did not seal. zhenye is the clearest miss: 3.0 from 61 reviews, and the UK notes often say the patches did not stick. Glue is not automatically stronger because a sticker failed. Who each listing is for is on the best pool repair kit page.

Where glue is worth the wait

Choose the bottle when you can leave the repair for 24 hours: a dry hole a thin sticker has already missed, or a small hot-tub puncture. Aarovibe’s UK reviews, 23 of the first 50 inside 4.1 from 126, include a hot tub that stayed sealed. One says the repair fell apart as soon as it became wet, so you do not refill early to test it. Paistely, nine of the first 50 inside 4.2 from 60, splits between cuts that held and glue that did not stick. More glue is not a stronger repair. Aarovibe says a thick coat can curl. Buy A Swimming Pool says a light coat on light inflatables. Bostik, for a different glue, says a thick layer. If your bottle says light, you use light. Underwater use is not stated for either glue kit.

Fumes and a failed kit

Paistely and Aarovibe do not print a CLP hazard line. A mixture on the GB market needs a label, so do not call the liquid non-toxic or solvent-free. Ventilate, and keep children away from an open tin. If the kit does not stick, stop. Do not put a sticker on wet glue, or glue on a peel-and-stick square. Section 22 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the 30-day right to reject. The waits are on how to repair a paddling pool puncture. For a flat dry pin hole you can leave overnight, open the sticker first.

Common questions

When is a sticker enough?
When the hole is a pin hole on a flat, clean surface, and you can follow that pack’s wait. kaiheng needs 12 hours and a dry panel, and it is not for seams. Bestway needs 30 minutes and is the pack that also claims underwater use, with thin-adhesive failures in UK reviews. If the surface is greasy or curved, these reviews say the sticker is the thing that lets go.
When is a glue bottle the better box?
When you will wait 24 hours, keep the coat light, and the sticker route has already failed or the hole is a small dry hot-tub puncture. Aarovibe states fifteen patches and 60 ml at about £5.99. Paistely states 60 ml at about £7.99 and does not state the patch count. Neither is the right box if you need the pool back the same afternoon.
Is more glue a stronger repair?
Not on the Aarovibe listing. A thick coat can curl or leave soft edges. Buy A Swimming Pool says use adhesive sparingly on light inflatables. A thick layer is Bostik’s instruction for a different product. Follow the bottle you bought.
Why do stickers fail on hot tubs in these reviews?
Bestway’s UK notes include a hot-tub tear of about 6 mm that did not seal, beside thin adhesive. zhenye has a review that the patches are not strong enough for a hot tub. Heat and folds are a plausible setting, not a measured cause on these listings. A failed sticker is a reason to look at a dry glue cure.
Can I add glue to a peel-and-stick square?
No, unless the pack you are holding tells you to combine them. None of the no-glue listings here say that. Asticers does not settle whether glue is even in the box. Mixing a liquid PVC onto a pressure-sensitive square is how you get a patch that neither system was tested as. Use one method, then wait out that method.
