Macrame plant hanger buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You already own the pot. What you are buying is a knotted cord cradle that has to hold the rim after you water, without the pot slipping through the net. On amazon.co.uk the useful differences are rarely the star line on its own. They are the rim diameter, the stated drop, the fibre, and whether a hook in the photo is actually in the component line. This macrame plant hanger buying guide walks through those checks for the twelve listings captured on 19 October 2026, from about £4.49 to about £16.97. Named rows and live links are in the [macrame plant hanger comparison](/hub/plant-accessories/macrame-plant-hanger).

Measure the rim before the knot

Start with the outside diameter at the rim, not the plant’s spread or the volume on a nursery label. UK makers size handmade cotton hangers in bands of roughly 8–10 cm, 14–16 cm and 20–22 cm. In this amazon.co.uk set only a few lines state a centimetre cap. Muorruo’s two-packs claim pots up to 20 cm. Mkouo’s single states up to 23 cm. Everything else leaves pot fit unstated, so compare the rim with the opening in the knots. Eyerayo’s jute pair includes a bullet of up to 4 cm. That is not a houseplant limit. A 12–15 cm ceramic pot should not be bought on that line.

Read the length as an empty drop

Stated length is usually the cord without the pot and without the hook. This shelf runs from about 58 cm on the Mkouo three-packs to 161 cm on the longest Ezylivin piece at about £16.97. A 161 cm hanger in a typical UK flat can put foliage at head height or block a doorway unless it hangs over a stairwell. One reviewer returned an 89 cm Mkouo because the cords could not be shortened. The 58 cm and 73 cm pieces are the useful ones under a curtain pole. Hold a tape from the hook point to where you want the rim, and compare that with the listing, not the lifestyle photo. A single 89 cm line suits one plant only if that drop fits the room.

Hooks, cord and the component line

Read the included-components line before you trust the S-hook in the photo. An S-hook needs a curtain pole, a beam or another hook. It is not a plasterboard anchor. The flintronic four-pack at about £7.99 lists four S-hooks. Eyerayo lists two. Ezylivin at about £16.97 lists four white ceiling or wall hooks. Muorruo’s bullets mention stainless S-hooks, yet shared reviews say the ceiling hooks in the photos were not in the parcel. Cotton is the usual cord. Jute appears on Eyerayo, Bamworld, and on one Mkouo title that also says cotton in a bullet. None of these listings print a tested load for the cord. Handmade, and a claim of thicker cord, are seller sentences. A plastic material field, or a voltage line on a jute listing, is catalogue noise. Pots are not in the box.

What this shelf costs

Price comes after the rim fits. On 19 October 2026 the entry band is about £4.49 to £7.99: SVUPUE, SHANGFENG’s four-pack at about £4.89 with two review texts and a 4.1 line, two flintronic ASINs that share review bodies, Bamworld jute at about £7.59, and Eyerayo at about £7.95. Under about £8 you rarely get a clear pot cap. About £9.99 to £13.99 covers the Mkouo single with a 23 cm cap, both Muorruo colourways at up to 20 cm, and the Mkouo three-length sets. Those three-packs share one review pool, so do not add the counts. Muorruo dark green is about £14.49 and Ezylivin about £16.97. If you need a stated rim, start with Muorruo or the Mkouo single. If you need S-hooks under £8, take flintronic rather than SHANGFENG unless you accept thin-cord reviews.

Match the pot, then the price

If the page states a rim you can use, start with a 20 cm or 23 cm line and still measure the net. If you need several light pots and S-hooks in the box, the four-pack with two drops is the best value, provided a simple cord is acceptable. If 161 cm would sit at head height, leave the longest piece for a stair void. A lower shelf price does not repair a 4 cm bullet or a hook that exists only in the photo.

Common questions

Does 90 cm mean the pot hangs 90 cm down?
Usually the figure is the empty hanger. The pot, the saucer and the spread cords shorten the drop, and a wide rim sits higher in the knots than a narrow one. Measure from the hook to the height you want, then compare that with the listing.
Are the hooks the same thing as a ceiling screw?
No. An S-hook or a white hook in the pack still needs a fixing rated for the watered pot. A joist screw and a plasterboard anchor are a separate purchase, and the steps sit on the how-to page.
Why do small pots fall through?
The net opening is wider than the rim, or the cord is loose string rather than a tight cradle. That shows up in reviews on the cheapest four-packs. Check the opening before you water overhead.
Which packs in this set state a pot size?
Muorruo states up to 20 cm. The Mkouo single states up to 23 cm. Eyerayo’s up-to-4 cm bullet is the figure to ignore. The other captured lines leave the diameter unstated.
What if the photo shows mixed knots and one design arrives?
That is a description mismatch. Under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 in Great Britain you can reject goods in the short term if they do not match the listing. This page is not legal advice. The component line is the check before checkout.
