Gold paint buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a small jar, a 250 ml tin and a spray open on amazon.co.uk, and the titles read as if they were one finish. They are not. This gold paint buying guide is the order before the basket: the job, the shade words, the pack, then any two fields that contradict each other. Stars come last. The eleven rows, with shelf prices from 21 October 2026, are on the [gold lacquer comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/gold-lacquer). Products Compared did not brush-test a tin. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. If a title says leaf and you meant sheets of metal, that split is on [gold leaf or gold paint](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/gold-lacquer/sub/gold-lacquer-paint-or-leaf).

The job comes first

Guild Lane Super GILD is 60 ml of accent gold. Rustins GOLE250 is 250 ml with wood and metal on the surface field. Meuvcol is a litre. Tamiya TS-21 is a 100 ml aerosol ranked in Toys & Games, and the Amazon title does not say gold. A frame belongs on gold paint for furniture. The £5.99 Crowders spray is an indoor lacquer, not a brush tin for trim.

Shade, pack, then the clash

Shade is words, not a hex. Guild Lane’s UK texts describe a very bright gold. Nicpro Sahara’s bullet calls 250 ml a warm antique. The code #CD7F32, printed beside gold on two listings, is a bronze hex, and a 4.7 star line does not turn Sahara into door-number gold. Pack is not coverage. Rustins’ label says about 3–3.5 m² per coat from the 250 ml tin, and reviews still mention three or four coats. VGSEBA’s 1.69 square feet / 125 ml and Meuvcol’s bare 56 are not planning figures. Read place and water as a pair, and keep the clash. Rustins is waterproof true and Not Water Resistant. ARTFLY is Indoor on the field and Interior/Exterior on uses. Where they disagree, drop the friendlier line. Two of four Crowders texts say a different spray arrived. Jacquard’s 8,118 reviews mix other Lumiere colours. The main table does not crown one.

What the listings contradict

Rustins carries two identities. Amazon’s paint-type field says Watercolour. The label is a water-borne acrylic, category A/i, maximum 74 g/l against a 130 g/l cap. The water pair does not match, so you cannot promise rain resistance. The 105°C note, the ban on oil-filled radiators, and not below 10°C belong to GOLE250 only. Do not copy them onto ARTFLY or Nicpro. Meuvcol is 1 litre on the size, 1 kg on the included line, and coverage 56 with no unit, at £24.99. Two of six UK texts say the film stayed watery. Tamiya’s container field says bottle for an aerosol. Rustins is the only file here with a grams-per-litre figure. Jacquard’s 9.07 g is not a filled jar. A non-toxic or EN 71 bullet is the seller’s sentence, not a mouth-safety pass.

What a trade tin adds

Brewers, Blackfriar and Frenchic often print a binder, a rate near 14 m² per litre and a temperature floor. Those lines show what a craft bottle has left blank. They are not the coverage of a 60 ml jar, and Frenchic’s EN 71-3 note does not attach to Nicpro. Quote only the amazon.co.uk field in front of you. An exterior sentence on a 750 ml tin does not repair a conflict on a 100 ml bottle. A named top pick and a best value are on best gold paint UK. This guide stops at the checks.

Common questions

Is gold lacquer the same as acrylic gold paint?
Usually the search treats them as one product and the labels do not. Most of these eleven rows are water-based metallic acrylic. Rustins is water-borne acrylic on its label and Watercolour in Amazon’s paint-type field. Tamiya TS-21 and the Crowders / Premier can are aerosols sold as lacquer. The word lacquer in a title is not a shared recipe.
Which field tells me indoor or outdoor when they disagree?
Neither line wins. ARTFLY says Indoor on the field and Interior/Exterior in specific uses. Nicpro Sahara says Outdoor on the field and indoor and outdoor in a bullet. Treat outdoor use as unstated. A trade tin’s exterior claim does not fill a blank on a craft bottle.
What does a coverage line with no unit mean?
You cannot plan an area from it. Meuvcol prints 56 with no unit, beside 1 litre and a 1 kg included line. Rustins is the usable pair: about 12 m² per coat per litre on the listing, and about 3–3.5 m² per coat from 250 ml on the label.
Does non-toxic on a bullet mean EN 71-3?
No. ARTFLY’s bullet says non-toxic and acid-free and cites ASTM D-4236 and EU EN71. ASTM D-4236 is a US art-materials label. EN 71-3 is a migration test, not a slogan. A seller line does not mean the dried film is safe to mouth, and another brand’s certificate does not transfer.
Why is a 60 ml jar dearer than a litre?
The price is not a price per finished square metre. Guild Lane is £37.48 for 60 ml. Meuvcol is £24.99 for 1 litre, with two of six texts failing on cover. Match the pack to the area you can see.
Should I trust waterproof true if the next line says not water resistant?
No. Rustins is waterproof true and Not Water Resistant on the next field. Limino and Nicpro Sahara are waterproof false and water resistant. Leave the conflict on the page. VGSEBA is the opposite case: both lines say it is not water resistant. One cheerful bullet does not overrule the field beside it.
What VOC number is actually printed?
Only Rustins, in this set. The label says category A/i, limit 130 g/l, product maximum 74 g/l. SI 2012/1715 leaves aerosols outside the paints definition it uses. Do not type 74 g/l, or the 105°C note, onto Guild Lane, ARTFLY, Nicpro or either spray. If the listing is silent, that figure is not published.
