Garage floor paint

Updated: 23 October 2026

You searched concrete paint because the garage slab is bare, oily at the edges, and due a coat before winter. Listings under that name on amazon.co.uk are often real garage coatings. The twelve products in the [concrete paint comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/concrete-paint) are not. They are mostly exterior masonry paints, plus one 750 ml interior floor tin and doorstep tins. If a car, hot tyres, or oil will sit on the concrete, none of these twelve is the coating. Peter F. wrote this on 23 October 2026 from those listings and public UK floor-coating pages. We did not test a garage. Why masonry paint is the wrong garage tin

Leyland Granocryl, Sandtex Microseal, HQC, and Landlords are wall paints. The top pick, Leyland 2.5 litres at £15.17 with 4.6 from 2,120 reviews, earns that place because the bullet names exterior concrete. The load in those reviews is a wall. A garage floor adds hot tyres, plasticiser from the rubber, oil drips, and a car that rolls the film twice a day. Masonry paint sheds rain on a vertical face. It is not built for that abrasion. The 5 litre Leyland at £20.95 is about £4.19 a litre. That price is attractive for render. It does not become garage floor paint because the tin is large. Sandtex black has a coverage cell that cannot size a wall, let alone a slab.

What the 750 ml Ronseal tin will and will not do

The nearest row is Ronseal Diamond Hard floor paint in slate, 750 ml, at £15.72 with 4.5 from 445 reviews. It is the only floor-paint type here, a water-based acrylic, not an epoxy. Ronseal's page keeps it to interior concrete, stone, and wood, not power-floated or tiled floors, with heavy traffic after 72 hours. A 750 ml tin covers about 3 square metres with three coats. The non-slip line is not a BS EN 16165 class. Three square metres is a cupboard floor. A garage bay is several times that. Do not use this tin as garage floor paint because it was the only floor-paint ASIN in the table. The wall-versus-floor split is masonry paint vs floor paint.

What UK listings sell for a car bay

Amazon's Concrete Paint bestseller list is led by floor and garage coatings, including a two-part epoxy kit in the region of £99 from brands that are not in our twelve. Coo-Var recommends a two-pack epoxy where vehicles, oil, and tyres are the duty. Those notes are not star lines from this comparison, and this page does not pick a winner. The VOC Regulations 2012 put two-pack reactive performance coatings at a water-borne cap of 140 g/l. A one-pack masonry paint for exterior mineral walls sits at 40 g/l. The two numbers mark a different product class. Check whether the system says vehicle traffic, whether you can use the mix inside its pot life, and whether a power-floated slab needs grinding.

Oil, laitance, and when to stop

Oil and laitance are why a careful tin still fails. Laitance is the weak dusty layer on new concrete. Watco's notes often say about six weeks, and Ronseal's month applies only to its own floor paint. Do not average them. Degrease oil first. A stain that keeps bleeding will come through the new film. Power-floated slabs are dense. Ronseal excludes them for the 750 ml tin, and two-pack makers often ask for grinding or an etch. None of the twelve listings provides a slip class. A domestic floor tin is enough when the concrete is indoors, about 3 square metres, and never sees a vehicle. A garage that stores a car is the leave-the-table case.

Common questions

Will Ronseal Diamond Hard floor paint take a car?
The 750 ml slate tin is an interior floor paint. Ronseal excludes power-floated, self-levelling, and tiled floors, and says heavy traffic after 72 hours. Coverage is about 3 square metres with three coats. The non-slip line is not a slip class and not evidence the film survives tyres. Use it on a small indoor floor that matches those limits. It is in this table because it is the only floor-paint ASIN, not because it is a garage coating.
What should I look for instead?
Look for a coating that states vehicle traffic, oil, and tyres, often a two-pack epoxy or a dedicated floor paint, on amazon.co.uk's Concrete Paint bestsellers. Coo-Var and Polycote describe that duty on their own pages. This comparison did not include those products, so it cannot name a winner or a price. Check pot life, whether the slab is power-floated, and the VOC line on the label.
Why is epoxy not in the comparison?
The twelve ASINs are masonry paints, one acrylic floor paint, and doorstep tins. Two-pack epoxy was not in that raw set. Scoring a kit that was not in the set would invent a review file. The bestseller node does list epoxy and heavy-duty floor paints. Judge those on their own amazon.co.uk pages. Do not borrow Leyland's 2,120 reviews as if they described a garage kit.
Do I have to grind a power-floated slab?
Ronseal will not take its floor paint on power-floated concrete. Makers of two-pack garage coatings often require grinding or etching so the film has a key. A smooth slab is a common reason paint peels under the first tyre. If you cannot do that preparation, a floor contractor should take the job. Painting the shine and hoping is the failure mode.
What about oil stains?
Degrease them before any coating. A stain that returns after washing will bleed into the new film. Listings that mention oil resistance still assume the contamination has been removed. This set has no product we can point to for an oily garage. If the stains are deep, stop and use a floor system with a preparation method you can follow.
