Concrete paint buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have one concrete face to coat, and amazon.co.uk has folded three paints into the same browse name. A white masonry tin, a 750 ml interior floor paint, and a 250 ml doorstep tin can all appear when you search for concrete paint. This concrete paint buying guide is the checklist before the [concrete paint comparison](/hub/paints-and-varnishes/concrete-paint): name the face, then read litres, colour evidence, and the coverage cell. Peter F. updated this page on 23 October 2026 from twelve amazon.co.uk listings. We did not run a laboratory test. Prices are captured shelf prices, and a qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Wall, floor, step, or garage

Start with the surface you will actually coat. An exterior concrete wall, rendered board, or pebbledash is a masonry job: Leyland Granocryl white, Sandtex Microseal black, or a one-litre HQC or Landlords colour. An indoor utility floor is the only place for Ronseal Diamond Hard floor paint in slate, 750 ml. A front step is Ronseal black 250 ml or tile red 750 ml. A garage that takes a car, hot tyres, or oil is a fourth job, and this folder does not contain a two-pack system for it. If you already know the job, the conditions are on best concrete paint.

Litres, coats, and the price per litre

Price the job in litres. Leyland's 5 litre tin is £20.95, about £4.19 a litre, and the 2.5 litre is £15.17, about £6.07 a litre. The bullet claims about 50 square metres a tin. The attribute says about 10 to 12 square metres a litre. A rule of thumb for a smooth two-coat wall is litres roughly equal to the area in square metres divided by five. A 20 square metre sound wall is about 4 litres, so the 5 litre tin has spare. The 5 litre Leyland is the low price per litre for a white wall, though that listing does not put the word concrete in the bullet the way the 2.5 litre does.

Colour photos and shared review lines

Coloured one-litre tins here cost £22.90 to £24.90, and several share a review file. HQC terracotta and classic grey are both £24.90 with 4.4 from 1,766 reviews. That is one line used twice. About 7 of the first 50 reviews on that shared file argue with the colour. Classic grey carries the colour code 000000, which is black, and the part number reads SAMPLES. Landlords beige and Moroccan sand are both £22.90 with 4.4 from 1,053, and they share an image. The Moroccan title is spelled Morrocan. HQC Bagels is separate, at £24.90 with 4.5 from 21 reviews, and one text says the colour is lighter than the picture. Patch the colour on the wall.

What the listing must say

The surface line should name your material. Leyland 2.5 litre, HQC terracotta, Landlords Moroccan sand, both Ronseal doorstep tins, and the Ronseal floor tin name concrete. Leyland 5 litre, Sandtex black, Landlords beige, and HQC Bagels are weaker. Beige is filed under stone. Sandtex's page excludes common Fletton and engineering bricks. Sandtex Microseal black, 1 litre at £11.17, shows a coverage cell of 1 m² per coat and a finish that says painted. Sandtex's product page states about 12 to 16 square metres a litre. Ignore the Amazon cell. Leyland 2.5 litre says dry in 24 hours and full cure in 4 hours. The 5 litre tin says full cure in 2 hours. Those fields do not agree. Primer is not stated. If the surface is chalky, use a stabiliser.

Common questions

Is concrete paint the same as masonry paint?
On a wall, render, or pebbledash, the paint you want from this set is exterior masonry paint. Concrete paint on amazon.co.uk is the browse name. It also contains an interior floor paint and doorstep tins. A masonry tin is the wrong film once people walk on it or a car parks on it.
How many litres do I need for a two-coat wall?
Leyland states about 10 square metres a litre. A rule of thumb for a smooth two-coat wall is litres roughly equal to the area in square metres divided by five. A 20 square metre sound wall is about 4 litres, so the £20.95 five-litre tin has spare and the £15.17 tin is tight. Rough render drinks more, and a second batch of white can flash if you run out halfway.
Can I use a masonry tin on a patio?
Leyland's 2.5 litre bullet includes the word patio. UK decorator guidance still treats masonry paint as a poor film where water sits and feet grind. Use a floor paint indoors and a doorstep tin for a step. The bullet is a listing claim, not a wear test.
Why do two colours show the same review count?
HQC terracotta and classic grey both show 4.4 from 1,766 reviews. Landlords beige and Moroccan sand both show 4.4 from 1,053, and they share an image. Those are shared files, not two independent tests. HQC Bagels is separate, at 4.5 from 21 reviews. Read one sample, then patch the colour. Adding the twin counts double-weights the same opinions.
What is wrong with the Sandtex coverage figure?
The amazon.co.uk cell for Sandtex Microseal black reads 1 m² per coat, and the finish field says painted. Sandtex's own page states about 12 to 16 square metres a litre. Use that maker range as a rough estimate. The 4.6 from 1,515 reviews does not repair the coverage cell.
Is a 250 ml doorstep tin a bargain?
Ronseal black doorstep paint is £10.49 for 250 ml, about £42 a litre, and the listed coverage is 3 square metres. The DRW 250 ml tin is £11.49 and has no reviews. Tile red 750 ml at £13.37 is the larger step pack. Reviewers of the black tin report rain and flaking when the film is caught early.
