Sticky back plastic for kitchen cabinets

Updated: 21 October 2026

The cupboard doors look tired, and a wide wallpaper roll will not sit cleanly on a flat door. Sticky back plastic for kitchen cabinets, in this amazon.co.uk set, is the narrow film: about 30 cm by 2 m, about 0.6 m², pressed on after the handles come off and the grease is gone. It will not take a hot pan, and it will not repair a swollen door. Width and the wider wall rolls are on the [self-adhesive wallpaper comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/self-adhesive-wallpaper). Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, used the amazon.co.uk listings stored on 20 October 2026. We did not lab-test the films. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Which roll in this set fits a door

A door wants a short furniture film, not a patterned drop. The narrow rolls here are about 30 cm by 2 m, about 0.6 m²: Hode marble at about £5.99, Alened wood at about £7.99, and Abyssaly wood at about £6.99. A wall roll nearer 44 cm is a feature-wall drop. A drawer front 28 cm wide sits inside a 30 cm film. A door 45 cm wide needs a join down the middle, and two doors about 70 cm tall use more than one 2 m roll. Hode is the best value for a pale stone look, and some of the review texts still describe torn liners. Width against a coverage box is on the self-adhesive wallpaper buying guide. Abyssaly says heat resistant and gives no degree. Taogift’s leopard, about £12.59, says about 45 cm by 3 m in the bullets and 45 cm by 3 cm in the details.

How the film goes on a door

Take the door off its hinges and take the handles off. Lay it flat, wash until a white cloth stays clean, and dry it. Cut with about 2 cm of overhang so you can turn the film onto the edge. Peel the liner a little at a time and push bubbles out from the middle. If the backing tears, trim the torn piece. Punch the screw holes only after the film is down. The how to hang peel and stick wallpaper page does not replace degreasing a cupboard.

Heat, water, and knives

These rolls do not state a heat limit in degrees. B&Q’s guide says the film they mean is heat resistant up to 75°C and is not for cutting on. Kaleidoscope’s d-c-fix, a wider roll, says 75°C for cups and plates, not hot pans, and at least 12 inches from a naked flame. Copying 75°C onto Hode, Alened, or Abyssaly would invent a test these listings do not contain. Checkatrade’s wrapping guide, written for trade vinyl, says film can peel near ovens and hobs. Keep these rolls off the splashback. A panel within about 30 cm of the burner is where that peeling starts, and none of them is a chopping surface.

When a door should be replaced instead

Film hides a colour. It does not rebuild the board, and it will not stiffen a door that has swollen. If the melamine is flaking, the adhesive grabs the loose face. A removable line is the seller’s claim. Stick a scrap on an inside edge, wait a day, and peel it. If the face comes with the scrap, stop.

Common questions

Will a 30 cm roll cover a cupboard door?
A 30 cm by 2 m roll is about 0.6 m² of area, which does not tell you the width of the door. It covers a face narrower than 30 cm once you leave a small overhang, such as a 28 cm drawer front, with length left on the roll. A door 40 cm wide needs a join or a wider film, and the join shows. Two doors about 70 cm tall will use more than one roll once you add trim. Measure the width first, then the height.
Do I take the handles off?
Yes. Take the door off and take the handles off before you cut the film. Cutting around a handle leaves a star of slits that lift when you wipe the rail. Punch the screw holes after the film is pressed flat, then refit the handle so it clamps the vinyl. Leaving the door on its hinges makes the overhang harder to fold onto the edge, and gravity works against you while the adhesive is still live.
Can sticky back plastic go next to the hob?
Not on the splashback, and not on a door that takes direct heat. The 75°C figure belongs to the film in B&Q’s guide and to Kaleidoscope’s d-c-fix, which also says keep at least 12 inches from a naked flame. Hode’s notes in this set do not state a heat limit, and Abyssaly’s heat-resistant line has no degree. A door on the far side of the kitchen is a fair use. A panel beside the burner is where trade wrappers already see the edge peel.
Does it leave residue on a door?
It can. Do not read removable as a clean melamine face. Grease, a weak coating, or a very strong tack can leave adhesive or pull the printed surface. Try a small piece on an inside edge and peel it the next day. If the door face lifts with the scrap, stop there. In a rented kitchen that test matters more, because a damaged door is not something a deposit scheme will treat as fair wear.
Is a leopard wallpaper roll a good cabinet film?
No. A leopard roll such as Taogift, about £12.59, is a wider pattern aimed at a wall. The bullets say about 45 cm by 3 m and the details say 45 cm by 3 cm, so the cover is not a figure you can use. A bold repeat on a narrow door looks cropped, and a fridge wrap in the reviews is not evidence for a greasy cupboard. Use a narrow plain or wood film, and keep the print for a wall drop.
