Self adhesive wallpaper: width, cover, and how many rolls

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are about to order self adhesive wallpaper, and a roll listed near £6 can look like a whole wall. In this amazon.co.uk set it is usually a narrow film of about 0.6 m². Wider drops sit nearer 1.1 to 1.3 m², and one 10 m roll states 4.3 m². This page is the question order: which width the job needs, how to check cover when two figures disagree, and why a feature wall needs several rolls. The [self-adhesive wallpaper comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/self-adhesive-wallpaper) lines the listings up. Prices can change. What you are actually buying

Two formats share the search. Hode at about £5.99, Abyssaly at about £6.99, and Alened at about £7.99 are about 30 cm wide and about 0.6 m²: a shelf, a drawer front, or a short cupboard door. A roll in the 44 cm class is one vertical strip, about 1.1 to 1.3 m². Arthome’s 10 m roll, at about £16.98 and stating 4.3 m², can give several drops only if width times length really is 4.3 m². Dunelm’s Fablon film, 67.5 cm by 2 m, says it is not a wallpaper substitute, so a shop width will not give you the roll count. On a 60 cm door, two widths of 30 cm film meet in one seam. A 44 cm roll leaves an awkward offcut. On a feature wall the narrow film adds a seam every 30 cm.

Check the cover yourself

Multiply length by width in metres, and treat any other coverage field as a claim. A roll 44.5 cm wide and 254 cm long is 0.445 times 2.54, about 1.13 m². LOVADA pairs those sides with a coverage field of 112.99 m². Alened and Abyssaly show a unit count of 1.0 m² against about 0.6 m² from the dimensions. Taogift’s title says 3 m while a details field says 3 cm. Leave both figures out until a length and a width agree. Screwfix counts strips: wall width divided by roll width, height plus about 10 cm, then rounded up to the repeat. A 2.4 m wall plus 10 cm needs 2.5 m. A 2.54 m roll then gives one drop and about 4 cm over, not a second drop.

Pattern, batch, and how many drops

A straight match means the motif meets in a level line at the seam. HAOKHOME states a straight match, a 44.5 cm repeat, and the same batch. wishFIRE, Alened, and both Arthome listings warn that a pale ground shows a dye-lot shift. On a 44.5 cm repeat, a 2.5 m drop rounds up to about 2.67 m, and a 2.54 m roll cannot supply that matched drop. A feature wall 3 m wide and 2.4 m high is about 7.2 m² and needs 7 drops at 44.5 cm. The repeat can force an eighth. One roll of about 1.3 m² does not cover that wall. Order a spare in the same basket, because a later parcel is often another batch.

What to leave for another page

Hanging, with the liner peeled a little at a time, sits on the how to hang peel and stick wallpaper guide. That guide assumes a sound, smooth wall. Which listing is the top pick, and which is the best value, is on the best peel and stick wallpaper page. Stars mix furniture and wall jobs, so a high average is not a test of width. Peter F., editor for DIY & tools, took these checks from the amazon.co.uk fields in this set, Screwfix’s strip method, and Dunelm’s measure notes. This is not a laboratory adhesion test.

Common questions

Is a 30 cm roll enough for a wall?
No, not for a feature wall. Hode, Abyssaly, and Alened are about 30 cm wide and about 0.6 m², enough for a shelf or a door and gone after one short panel on a wall. A 3 m wall needs about seven drops at 44.5 cm, so the narrow film also adds a seam on every strip. Use it for furniture. For a wall, take a wider roll and compare its length with a 2.4 m ceiling.
Why do two cover figures disagree?
One figure is not length times width. LOVADA lists about 44.5 cm by 254 cm, about 1.13 m², beside a coverage field of 112.99 m². Alened and Abyssaly show 1.0 m² against about 0.6 m² from the dimensions. Multiply the sides and order from that product. When the fields disagree, drop the odd coverage box.
Do I need a straight match?
You need one when the print must meet at the seam. HAOKHOME states a straight match and a 44.5 cm repeat. A plain film wastes less, though you still allow about 10 cm for trim. With that repeat, a matched drop on a 2.4 m wall is about 2.67 m, and a 2.54 m roll is short of it, so buy extra length.
How many rolls do I need for one feature wall?
Count drops, not only square metres. A wall 3 m wide needs 7 drops at 44.5 cm, and a roll about 2.54 m long gives one plain drop on a 2.4 m wall, so plan on about seven rolls. If the repeat needs about 2.67 m, that short roll cannot supply a matched drop and you may need an eighth. One roll of about 1.3 m² is not that wall.
Should I buy every roll from one batch?
Yes when the listing says so, and it is safer when that line is missing. HAOKHOME, wishFIRE, Alened, and both Arthome listings warn that colour can shift between dye lots. Order the spare in the first basket, because a later roll is often another batch and a light colour shows it at the seam. The same batch still does not fix a wrong coverage figure.
