Paintable wallpaper buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You are choosing a white roll before you buy paste, with the emulsion still unopened. This paintable wallpaper buying guide fixes the hang method, the pattern match and the cover of a 10 m roll before you use the product table. On amazon.co.uk the seven rolls in this set cost about £7.95 to £12.49, and several listings disagree with themselves. A coverage box can claim hundreds of square metres from a roll about 10 m long. The [paintable wallpaper comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/paintable-wallpaper) is that table. Peter F. read those amazon.co.uk pages and public UK guides on 21 October 2026, and did not run a lab test. A purchase through an amazon.co.uk link can earn a commission, at no extra cost to you.

What you are buying

A paintable roll is a white or plain sheet with a raised pattern. You hang it, then paint it with emulsion, or you leave it white. UK shops sell it as Anaglypta, Graham & Brown Superfresco, or generic embossed vinyl. A higher price from about £7.95 to £12.49 is not a stated heavier sheet. These listings give no gramme weight. Sophie Laurence RD8122, at about £7.95, has a paper field, a size of 10 m by 0.53 m, and a unit count of 1 m². If the bullets will not say paste the paper or paste the wall, leave the paste.

Hang method before pattern

Paste the paper puts adhesive on the back. Graham & Brown's UK wallpaper FAQs say you then book the length paste to paste. Paste the wall puts adhesive on the wall. Pre-pasted means you wet a gum that is already there. The bullets and the Amazon field have to agree before you buy paste. Buckingham's bullets say paste the paper and the installation field says pre-pasted. Sherwood's bullets name no hang method, while the application field says peel and stick, and the brand field says YöL. Kinver's bullets say paste the paper and Argo's say paste the product, while both installation types say non-pasted. Soak minutes stay on the how to hang paintable wallpaper page.

Match and waste

A free match has no repeat, so you cut each drop to the wall height. B&Q treats that as the match that wastes the least. A straight match starts every length on the same part of the motif. An offset, sometimes called a half drop, shifts the next length down the wall. B&Q's example of a 64 cm repeat with a 32 cm drop is an offset. Buckingham prints 64/32 cm in the bullets and straight match in the field. Sherwood's bullets say a 0 cm free match. Argo's bullets say free and the field says straight. Kinver's bullets say straight and the field says random. Pure White is straight every 32 cm.

A roll size you can use

Multiply length by width and keep that figure. A roll of 10 m by 0.53 m is 5.3 m², and a roll of 10 m by 0.52 m is 5.2 m². Sherwood's bullets say about 5.32 m². The wood-slat roll prints 5.2 m². Those lines follow from the dimensions. Kinver's 530 m², Pure White's 52459.88 and Argo's 10.85 m² do not, because 10 times 0.53 is 5.3. Buckingham's 64 square feet is about 5.9 m², still not 10.05 times 0.53. A wall 2.4 m high and 3 m wide is 7.2 m², so two rolls before a pattern drop. Buy the spare from the same batch.

Before you open the table

Use one batch for the room, because the shade can shift. If amazon.co.uk prints no batch code, read it on the label when the roll arrives. These listings state no Euroclass, so they are not shown here as meeting Approved Document B. Cure damp before you hang. Duplex, blown vinyl, woodchip and lining paper are on Anaglypta or blown vinyl.

Common questions

Do I read the hang method on the bullets or the Amazon installation field?
Read both, and trust the roll only when they name the same method. Buckingham's bullets say paste the paper and the installation field says pre-pasted. Sherwood's bullets name no hang method and the application field says peel and stick. If those lines clash, you do not yet know whether to buy a tub or wet a gummed back. Wait until the label in the parcel agrees with one line.
What is a free match, and which of these rolls print one?
A free match has no pattern repeat, so each length can start where the wall height needs it. Sherwood's bullets print a 0 cm free match. Argo's bullets also say free match, though the pattern-match field says straight, so that page is not settled. The Superfresco wood slat prints a random match.
Is 64/32 cm a straight match or an offset?
In B&Q's wallpaper buying guide, a 64 cm repeat with a 32 cm drop is an offset, sometimes called a half drop. Anaglypta Buckingham prints 64/32 cm in the bullets and straight match in the pattern-match field, so the listing carries both. If you need a half drop, buy a listing that says offset in both places.
Why is a coverage of 530 m² or 52459 not a yield?
A roll about 10 m by 0.52–0.53 m covers about 5.2–5.3 m². Kinver's field of 530 m² is about a hundred times that. Superfresco Pure White's field of 52459.88 cannot come from 52 cm by 10 m. Argo's 10.85 m² misses in the same way, because 10 m by 53 cm is 5.3 m². Keep length times width.
Does washable mean I can use it in a shower?
Washable means you can wipe the face. It is a cleaning grade, and a shower or a wall that stays wet needs a different product. Peelable, where a listing prints it, describes taking the sheet off later. B&Q says its own paintable vinyl is not for kitchens or bathrooms. These amazon.co.uk listings do not show a shower rating.
