Anaglypta or blown vinyl

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a white textured roll in the basket, one tab calls it Anaglypta, and another calls the same look blown vinyl. Anaglypta is a brand. The roll is either an embossed paper or a vinyl, and only the listing in front of you says which. This page sorts duplex paper, paintable blown vinyl, woodchip and lining paper, then checks the seven amazon.co.uk fields in the [paintable wallpaper comparison](/hub/painting-supplies/paintable-wallpaper). Which pattern to buy stays on the [buying guide](/hub/painting-supplies/paintable-wallpaper/sub/paintable-wallpaper-buying-guide). Peter F. checked those listings on 21 October 2026 against the maker sheets. No laboratory test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Anaglypta is the brand

Anaglypta names a range, and in Britain the word has stuck to the whole job. A paper, a foamed vinyl and a generic embossed roll can share that label. The Original PDF describes a paper with no PVC and no polystyrene. A separate luxury vinyl sheet is about 52 cm by 10.05 m, about 5.2 m². Kinver is sold under the Anaglypta name. Sherwood's title says Anaglypta, though the brand field reads YöL. The Superfresco rolls are Graham & Brown.

Duplex embossed paper

Duplex embossed paper is two paper layers pressed into a relief. On Anaglypta's Original PDF you paste the paper, soak it for at least 15 minutes, and normally wait 24 to 48 hours before paint. The luxury vinyl PDF quotes 10 to 12 minutes. Paste order sits on how to hang paintable wallpaper. None of the seven bullets says duplex or no PVC. Sophie Laurence's material field says paper, at about £7.95, sized 10 m by 0.53 m, with a unit count of 1 m². That is not the Original duplex claim. Pure White's material field says paper and a bullet says expanded vinyl.

Blown vinyl you paint, and blown vinyl you do not

Blown vinyl, also called expanded vinyl, is a foamed raised face. The relief is the foam, not two pressed paper plies. DIY Doctor says a coloured raised pattern cannot be painted over. Go Wallpaper's Popular pages describe white blown vinyl as paintable. These titles are white. Buckingham, Sherwood, Argo, Kinver and the wood slat list vinyl. Only Pure White prints expanded vinyl, in a bullet, while its material field says paper. Go Wallpaper calls Kinver, Sherwood and Buckingham blown vinyl. Washable is a cleaning grade, not a shower lining. Amazon's Kinver bullets say a straight match. The brand page says a free match and 0 cm, against a coverage figure of 530 m².

Woodchip and lining paper

Woodchip and lining paper are not among these seven ASINs. Woodchip is paint-grade paper with wood particles in the sheet. Lining paper is a plain base for paint or another paper. A lining roll will not give you Kinver. A specified lining is its own grade, and paintable wallpaper for ceilings is a textured roll overhead. None of the ASINs states a Euroclass. Washable, in the sense of BS EN 235, is how the face cleans.

Common questions

Is Anaglypta a material or a brand?
Anaglypta is a brand. The sheet is duplex embossed paper on the Original instructions, or a vinyl on the luxury vinyl sheet. Sherwood's title says Anaglypta while the brand field says YöL. The Superfresco rolls are Graham & Brown. Read the material line on the amazon.co.uk page you are buying.
What is duplex paper, and is any roll on this shelf described as duplex?
Duplex embossed paper is two paper layers formed into a relief. Anaglypta's Original PDF says that sheet has no PVC, that you paste the paper, and that you soak it for at least 15 minutes. None of the seven bullets says duplex or no PVC. A paper field on Sophie Laurence, or paper plus an expanded-vinyl bullet on Pure White, is not that claim.
What is blown or expanded vinyl, and which bullets say it?
Blown or expanded vinyl is a foamed raised face. Those words appear on Pure White's bullets only, and that listing's material field still says paper. Buckingham, Sherwood, Argo, Kinver and the wood slat are filed as vinyl. Go Wallpaper describes Kinver, Sherwood and Buckingham as paintable blown vinyl.
Can you paint blown vinyl wallpaper?
You can paint the white blown vinyl that Popular pages and Go Wallpaper describe as paintable, with emulsion, once the paste has cured. DIY Doctor's warning covers a coloured raised pattern with a printed skin. These seven titles are white, so that warning describes a different product. Follow the insert for the first coat when the Amazon bullets leave the minutes out.
How are woodchip and lining paper different?
Woodchip is paper with wood particles in it, and you paint the chips rather than an embossed design. Lining paper is a smooth base with no relief, hung so paint or another paper has an even ground. Neither is on this shelf. A textured roll such as Kinver, Buckingham or a Superfresco does not stand in for a specified lining, and woodchip will not give you a blown-vinyl repeat.
Why do Amazon and the brand site disagree on Kinver's match?
Amazon's Kinver bullets say a straight match. The Kinver page on anaglypta.co.uk says a free match and 0 cm, on a roll of about 5.2 m². Amazon has also shown coverage of 530 m², which that size cannot produce. Hang to the insert, and treat a coverage figure in the hundreds of square metres as a bad field.
