Corded or cordless airbrush: which air supply to buy

Updated: 17 October 2026

You are choosing a mains mini compressor or a battery gun, and one listing in the folder is neither: it is a gun with no compressor at all. Corded or cordless airbrush is that decision, using the twelve amazon.co.uk files on our [Airbrush set](/hub/painting-supplies/airbrush-set) page from 15 October 2026. Cordless prices run from £19.94 to £28.49. Corded prices run from £39.99 to £74.95. Rosemary & Co at £22.65 sits beside them and still needs your air. The full carton checklist is on the [airbrush kit with compressor](/hub/painting-supplies/airbrush-set/sub/airbrush-set-buying-guide) page. A purchase through our links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. compared the listings and did not time a battery.

Three shapes, not two

Corded kits in this folder are SHJKBST, Powate, Roizefar, Timbertech and MEEDEN. Cordless files are both BURNTOP colours, Aloxina, Liwankaqi, CHAMSUREUK and Ykall. A components field that only says Tool Kit or a cable is not a named compressor. Rosemary is the third shape: the hose and compressor are not included, the thread is 1/8 inch BSP male, and 55 psi is printed on the gun. A receiver, as Everything Airbrush describes it, lets the motor switch off and smooths the flow. None of these twelve specs is that 3 litre tank. Timbertech's tank volume is 7 ml. Ykall's title includes a compressor, and one review says it did not arrive. The model-pressure side of the same choice is on the airbrush kit for models page.

What the battery claims say

Black BURNTOP at £19.94 claims 2,000 mA for 1–2 hours. The green file is the same BURNTOP-PQ model, and the review texts overlap, so do not add 204 and 203. Aloxina claims a similar runtime on three reviews, one of which blocked after about two minutes. Liwankaqi claims about 40 minutes. CHAMSUREUK's selling text says 4–5 hours, while the voltage field says 220 V and the power source says battery. Ykall claims 1,000 mAh, and one review describes about 20 minutes on a stencil. Do not treat 1–2 hours or 4–5 hours as a measurement. What fails first in the reviews we have is a block or a short run. Cleaning is on the how to use an airbrush kit page.

What the mains kits still leave open

A corded kit can still be a low-voltage adapter, not a 230 V appliance with a UK plug. SHJKBST at £39.99 weighs 890 g on a 12 V adapter, and the spec does not print volts. Powate at £52.99 weighs 740 g, prints 12 V DC and 18 W, and names the compressor in the included line. Roizefar at £55.99 weighs 1.42 kg. Timbertech at £69.99 weighs 4.33 kg and prints 220 V. MEEDEN at £74.95 prints 240 V. No file states a BS 1363 plug. Regulation 35 of the Electrical Equipment (Safety) Regulations 2016 expects that plug, or a fused conversion plug, when the lead is for a UK socket. A 12 V gun can sit outside the voltage scope. The adapter that goes into the wall does not.

Which job fits which air

Choose a cable when you need a session you can regulate, and a battery when the job is short and away from a socket: nails, a stencil, a bit of colour. The black BURNTOP is the lowest price for that short job, with one 0.3 mm nozzle and a review file shared with the green listing. Makeup can need only a few psi, so a 48 psi headline is not a face-spraying instruction. If you already have a compressor, buy the gun-only listing and stop there.

Common questions

Will a cordless gun last a priming session?
Treat the hour claims as seller text. Liwankaqi says about 40 minutes. One Ykall review describes about 20 minutes on a stencil. CHAMSUREUK says 4–5 hours on eight reviews and also prints 220 V. A priming session for several miniatures wants air that does not sag, which these battery files do not show on a gauge. Use a corded kit when the session is the point.
Why does a corded kit still say 12 V?
SHJKBST and Powate are corded through a low-voltage adapter, not a battery and not necessarily a 230 V motor in the compressor body. Powate prints 12 V DC and 18 W. The spray is not limited by a claimed mAh figure. You still need the adapter's plug to suit a UK socket, and neither file states BS 1363. The lead is the part to check on arrival.
Is 220 V a UK plug?
No. UK domestic plugs are BS 1363. Timbertech prints 220 V and does not say BS 1363, and one review reports a Euro two-pin plug. CHAMSUREUK prints 220 V in the voltage field while the power source says battery powered. MEEDEN prints 240 V, which is closer to UK mains, and still does not name the plug. A two-pin lead needs a proper conversion, not a hopeful travel adapter with no fuse.
How heavy is the corded compressor?
SHJKBST is 890 g and Powate is 740 g, so both are desk-top mini units. Roizefar is 1.42 kg. MEEDEN's spec says 2 kg and a bullet says 8 pounds, which do not match. Timbertech is 4.33 kg, the heaviest file here, with a gauge and a water trap in the bullets. You will not hang that one from your hand while you paint a nail.
Can I use the Rosemary gun on a compressor I own?
Yes, if your hose meets a 1/8 inch BSP male thread. The bullet says the hose and compressor are not included, and one review says the gun worked on a Gocheer mini compressor. You get 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 mm sets, with 0.3 mm pre-installed. You do not get a moisture trap in that box, so the trap has to be on the compressor you already use.
Why do the two BURNTOP colours look like the same reviews?
Because the sampled texts overlap. Black is £19.94, 360 g, 3.8 from 204. Green is £20.99, 380 g, 3.8 from 203. Both say model BURNTOP-PQ, 48 psi and a 2,000 mA claim. Adding the counts double-counts the same comments. Pick on price and colour, not on a pretend extra sample.
