Airbrush kit for models, miniatures and 3D prints

Updated: 17 October 2026

A kit sold for nails and cake is not automatically a model primer. If you want an airbrush kit for models, the useful question is whether the carton gives you a nozzle you can change and air you can read, not whether the title mentions Gunpla. The twelve amazon.co.uk listings on our [Airbrush set](/hub/painting-supplies/airbrush-set) page, 15 October 2026, mix those hobbies in one table. This page keeps primer, thinning and nozzle size for plastic and resin. Trigger order and cleaning are on the [how to use an airbrush kit](/hub/painting-supplies/airbrush-set/sub/airbrush-set-how-to-use) page. A purchase through our links may earn us a commission at no extra cost to you. Peter F. compared the listings. We did not prime a miniature.

Nozzle size for plastic and resin

Scale Model Shop's guide puts about 0.25–0.3 mm on general model painting, and about 0.4–0.5 mm where primer and varnish go on more easily. Iwata's point is the matching set: a larger head moves more liquid, and you change needle, nozzle and cap together. Timbertech says 0.30 mm is mounted, with 0.20 mm and 0.50 mm to swap. Rosemary says 0.3 mm is pre-installed, 0.2 mm is for fine detail, and 0.5 mm is for thicker primers. MEEDEN is 0.5 mm only, which can lay primer and will not give you a detail head. Aloxina, CHAMSUREUK and both BURNTOP files are a single 0.3 mm. Ykall is 0.4 mm and Liwankaqi is 0.35 mm, with no second head to swap.

Pressure you can actually read

Key Model World's rule of thumb is about 18 psi for acrylics and about 25 psi for enamels, read with the trigger down. A standing gauge reads higher. That figure is their guide, not a measurement of these twelve compressors. Vallejo's Model Air note says about 15–25 psi. If your kit has no gauge, you cannot check it. Timbertech prints 4 bar, autostart at 3 bar and autostop at 4 bar. One review says continuous pressure reached about 24 psi. Four bar is about 58 psi, so that working figure sits well below the autostop. Powate's spec says 12 with no unit beside PSI bullets. Roizefar's spec says 230 with no unit against a 55 PSI bullet. Ykall says 34 PSI in the title and 34 pascal in the spec. MEEDEN's 21 psi is one number with a unit, on a 0.5 mm needle.

What the reviews used on models

Timbertech's review file is the one that talks about priming and Warhammer. One writer says there is no tank, which matches a spec tank volume of 7 ml, so the motor runs while you spray. Reviewers mention paints such as Vallejo primer and Army Painter. Those are their bottles, not contents of the carton. Liwankaqi's file has one text that base-coated 3D prints after the paint was thinned, and another that says the gun broke after little use, on a star line of 3.5 from six reviews. No paint is in these boxes except MEEDEN's twelve 30 ml acrylics for craft surfaces, with ASTM D-4236. That is not a miniature primer. You still buy primer, thinner and a cleaner that matches the paint. The plug and the included-line check are on the buying guide.

When a cordless gun is the wrong first model kit

A single 0.3 mm cordless gun is a short colour session, not a priming afternoon. The hour figures on BURNTOP, Liwankaqi and CHAMSUREUK are seller claims, none of these guns lists a 0.5 mm head for thick primer, and you cannot hold an 18 psi rule of thumb without a gauge. Choose Timbertech's 4 bar line, or Powate with the compressor named in the included line, when you are priming a squad or a resin print. Choose cordless only when you are still spotting a little colour away from a socket and you can live with one nozzle. Weights and runtimes are on the corded or cordless airbrush page.

Common questions

What nozzle size is sensible for miniatures?
Scale Model Shop suggests about 0.25–0.3 mm for general model painting and about 0.4–0.5 mm for primer and varnish. In this folder, Timbertech and Rosemary actually describe 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 mm as sets. Powate's included line confirms 0.2 and 0.5 mm and omits 0.3 mm. A lone 0.3 mm cordless nozzle can spray colour. It cannot swap to a primer head.
Can I prime with 0.3 mm?
You can, if the primer is thin enough to pass. A CHAMSUREUK review doubted 0.3 mm for larger car bodies. Rosemary's own bullet points 0.5 mm at thicker primers and wider coverage. Vallejo Model Air is described as ready to spray around 15–25 psi, with thinner optional. A thick primer through 0.3 mm is how nozzles block on a first session.
What pressure should I aim for with acrylic?
Key Model World's rule of thumb is about 18 psi for acrylics and about 25 psi for enamels, read with the trigger down. That is not a reading taken on these ASINs. Timbertech is the listing that gives you bar on the spec, and one review mentions about 24 psi while spraying. Files whose spec says 12, 230 or 34 pascal do not let you aim at 18 psi.
Does a cordless gun hold pressure for a priming session?
The claims say 40 minutes to several hours, and they were not timed here. Liwankaqi prints about 40 minutes. One Ykall note is about 20 minutes on a stencil. A battery that sags will not hold a steady psi, and these guns do not show you a gauge. A corded compressor with a stated unit is the better first primer.
Which kept kits list 0.2, 0.3 and 0.5 mm?
Powate, SHJKBST, Roizefar, Timbertech and Rosemary claim all three. Powate's included-components line drops 0.3 mm. SHJKBST and Roizefar put the sizes in the bullets while the components field says Air Hose. Timbertech says 0.30 mm is mounted and the other two are exchangeable. MEEDEN does not join that list.
Is the MEEDEN 0.5 mm enough for detail?
It is a primer-sized needle, not a detail set. The bullet lists 0.5 mm and twelve craft acrylics, not a 0.2 mm head. You can lay a base on a large surface. Panel lines and a 28 mm face want a smaller nozzle, which means another gun or another kit. The 21 psi spec is at least a single unit.
