Gas fire pit propane regulator

Updated: 21 October 2026

The hose on the new pit will not click onto the green bottle, or it will not start on the red cylinder. A gas fire pit propane regulator has to match the pressure and the valve. Green patio gas takes a 27 mm clip-on. Red propane takes a POL screw. The usual outdoor figure is 37 mbar. The [gas fire pit comparison](/hub/outdoor-fire-pits/gas-fire-pit) holds the nine amazon.co.uk listings we read on 20 October 2026. None of those pages prints 37 mbar, 27 mm, or POL. 37 mbar, and the two valves

Liquid Gas UK puts a propane regulator at a nominal 37 mbar, and a butane regulator at 28–30 mbar. Green Calor patio gas is propane in 5 kg and 13 kg cylinders, with a 27 mm clip-on. The specification table says propane, 37 mbar, and 27 mm. Red propane uses a POL screw at the same 37 mbar. Forcing a clip-on onto that valve damages the seal. The how to light a gas fire pit page starts once that regulator is the one in your hand.

What these listings actually say

None of the three wordings states 37 mbar or names the valve. B0DHKSKFNP puts a 1.9 m hose and a regulator on the components line. B0BYRGJPCK puts UK regulator on a highlight, while the components list names the hose only. B0F6N1BFVK says the regulator and hose are pre-assembled, and one bullet also says natural gas while the fuel line says LPG. The 28 in pits state a 3 m hose and name no regulator. B0DHKP1486 names neither hose nor regulator. The best gas fire pit page does not close the cylinder.

Hose class and a bad connector

Liquid Gas UK treats the hose downstream of the regulator as Class 2 to BS EN 16436-1, rated 10 bar, orange or black with an orange line. A smell of gas is a stop. A UK review on B0D8T67RXJ describes gas in bursts because a pin did not fully depress the valve.

The cylinder is still extra

No listing in this set includes the bottle. A 5 kg and a 13 kg green patio cylinder share the 27 mm clip-on. A red cylinder is the POL route. Confirm a 27 mm clip-on at 37 mbar if you keep green patio gas, or a POL screw at the same pressure if the shed holds red propane. The gas fire pit buying guide puts that check ahead of the shape and the price.

Common questions

What pressure should a propane fire-pit regulator be?
Liquid Gas UK’s outdoor figure for propane is a nominal 37 mbar. Butane regulators sit at 28–30 mbar, so a butane marking is the wrong pressure on a propane cylinder. A new propane regulator should be marked BS EN 16129. The nine listings in this set do not print 37 mbar, so the carton text will not answer it.
What is the difference between a 27 mm clip-on and a POL screw?
A 27 mm clip-on pushes onto a green Calor patio cylinder and clicks home. A POL screw threads onto a red propane cylinder, and those LPG threads are often left-hand. Both are 37 mbar propane. The clip will not seal on a POL neck, and the nut will not seal on a 27 mm neck. Stop if the fitting needs force.
Is patio gas the same gas as red propane?
Green Calor patio gas is propane, sold in 5 kg and 13 kg cylinders with a 27 mm valve. Red propane is the same gas through a POL valve. The difference is the connection, not a second fuel. You can keep the cylinder you already own and change the regulator, or change the cylinder and keep the regulator. Calor’s specification table for the 27 mm clip-on says propane at 37 mbar.
Which pits in this set say a regulator is included?
B0DHKSKFNP names a 1.9 m hose and a regulator, with no pressure. B0F6N1BFVK says the regulator and hose are pre-assembled, and one bullet also says natural gas while the fuel line says LPG. B0BYRGJPCK says UK regulator in a highlight and lists only the hose in the components. The 28 in pits mention a 3 m hose and no regulator. B0DHKP1486 names neither. None of them states 37 mbar, 27 mm, or POL.
Is a barbecue regulator always the right one?
Only when it is a 37 mbar propane regulator and the inlet matches the cylinder you will use. A butane barbecue regulator at 28–30 mbar is the wrong pressure for propane, even if the clip looks the same. A 27 mm patio clip-on will not screw onto red POL propane, and a POL nut will not click onto green patio gas. If both appliances share one bottle, they can share that regulator type only while the bottle stays the same.
How do you know the hose is the right class?
Look for BS EN 16436-1 Class 2, a 10 bar rating, and a hose that is orange or black with an orange line. Class 2 shows a production date rather than an expiry date. Liquid Gas UK treats an undamaged Class 2 hose as having a service life of no more than 10 years. Class 1 tubing is a different hose.
What do you do if the connector feeds gas in bursts?
Shut the cylinder and leave the pit unlit. A UK review on B0D8T67RXJ describes a supplied connector that fed gas in bursts because a pin did not fully depress the cylinder valve. Pushing harder is how that pin or the seal gets damaged. Anyone you pay to repair the supply should be Gas Safe registered. If a flame will not go out after the cylinder is shut, Calor’s connecting page gives 03457 444 999.
