Gas fire pit buying guide

Updated: 21 October 2026

You want a flame on the garden table without sweeping wood ash off the patio. A gas fire pit buying guide puts the fitting and the shape ahead of the price. These nine amazon.co.uk listings run from £89.99 to £225.99, and a shared star line will not show whether the hose fits a green patio cylinder. The [gas fire pit comparison](/hub/outdoor-fire-pits/gas-fire-pit) holds the rows, prices and review counts. The [best gas fire pit](/hub/outdoor-fire-pits/gas-fire-pit/sub/gas-fire-pit-best) page says who each listing suits. We read the listings as printed on 20 October 2026. Fuel and the fitting

Start with the propane fitting. Liquid Gas UK’s August 2020 sheet gives 37 mbar propane or 28 mbar butane, a regulator to BS EN 16129 or BS EN 12864, and a hose to BS EN 16436-1 Class 2. Hose included is not that sentence. B0DHKSKFNP at £99.99 names a 1.9 m hose and a regulator. B0BYRGJPCK puts UK regulator on a highlight and does not state the pressure. Outsunny B0F6N1BFVK says the regulator and hose are pre-assembled, and one bullet also says natural gas, which is not bottled propane. Clip-on versus screw is the gas fire pit propane regulator page.

Shape, output and inlet

The 18 in Onlyfire, about 5 kg and 3.2 kW, sits on a table you own. B0BYRGJPCK is a wheeled hybrid at 21.9 kg, and its burner lifts off a stated 9 kg bay. The Outsunny at £225.99 is the furniture, 27 kg, with a 5 kg bay. The 28 in trough is 6.5 kW. The Outsunny table is printed as 50,000 BTU. As a rule of thumb, 1 kW is about 3,412 BTU/h, so 50,000 BTU/h is about 14.7 kW. B0D8T5PL9G has a bottom inlet. B0D8T67RXJ has a side inlet, so the hose stays on the table. That shape choice is the tabletop gas fire pit or fire pit table page.

What the box leaves out

The cylinder is absent from every box, so the price is not the cost of the gas. Only Outsunny B0F6N1BFVK states a waterproof cover. Liquid Gas UK says to replace a hose when it is cracked. Class 2 hose has no printed expiry, and that sheet treats a sound hose as lasting no more than 10 years. A listing may ask whether the pit can sit on wood, and the bullets never answer. The 16 in family weighs about 11–13 kg. Four Onlyfire files share one 4.6 from 40. B0D8T67RXJ stands apart at 3.3 from 3.

Marks, smoke and outdoor use

None of the nine files prints a UKCA mark, a CE mark or a flame-failure device. From 1 October 2024, GOV.UK allows UKCA or CE for gas appliances in Great Britain. If a listing shows neither, do not call the pit marked. Gas is an authorised fuel, and outdoor barbecues and similar appliances are allowed in a smoke control area. That is not clearance for a room, a tent or a closed gazebo. Call a Gas Safe registered engineer if you smell gas after the cylinder valve is shut.

Common questions

What should you check before you pay for a gas fire pit?
Check a named propane fitting first, then the shape, the stated output, the inlet, and whether a cover or a cylinder is in the box. In this amazon.co.uk set the cylinder is missing from all nine listings, and the prices run from £89.99 to £225.99. A line that only says hose included still leaves the connector to you.
Is a gas fire pit allowed in a smoke control area?
Yes, outdoors. GOV.UK treats gas as an authorised fuel and allows outdoor barbecues, chimineas and similar appliances in a smoke control area. That is not permission to burn the pit in a room, and it does not mean the flame is free of carbon monoxide. Keep it out of tents and closed gazebos as well. Smoke that affects a neighbour can still be a statutory nuisance even when the fuel itself is allowed.
Does hose included mean a 37 mbar UK propane regulator?
No. Liquid Gas UK’s outdoor figures are 37 mbar propane or 28 mbar butane, with a regulator to BS EN 16129 or BS EN 12864 and a hose to BS EN 16436-1 Class 2. Hose included does not state that pressure or your connector. In this set, only B0DHKSKFNP names a 1.9 m hose and a regulator in the components line. A highlight that says UK regulator, as on B0BYRGJPCK, can still be the wrong clip for your cylinder.
Is 50,000 BTU the same as 6.5 kW?
No. As a rule of thumb, 1 kW is about 3,412 BTU/h, so 50,000 BTU/h is about 14.7 kW. The 6.5 kW figure in this set is the 28 in trough, not the Outsunny table printed at 50,000 BTU. The detachable pit is a third print, 6.85 kW, also shown as 23,000 BTU.
Do you need a cover, and which listing states one?
If the pit lives outside in British rain, yes, because water collects in the burner bowl. Only Outsunny B0F6N1BFVK, at £225.99, states a waterproof cover. The other eight listings in this set do not. A cover keeps rain out. It does not replace a hose inspection when you change the cylinder.
Why do four Onlyfire pits share one 4.6 from 40 reviews?
Because those four files carry the same review block, not four separate tests. The line sits on B0DHKP1486 at £89.99, B0DHKSKFNP at £99.99, and on B0D8T66FNS and B0D8T8XWQW at £119.99 each. Count it once. B0D8T67RXJ is a different file, at 3.3 from 3.
