Dust protection door: what to check before you buy

Updated: 16 October 2026

You still need to use the doorway while you sand. A dust protection door is the zip sheet you tape over that opening so you can walk through and close it again. The seven amazon.co.uk listings in our [dust protection door comparison](/hub/occupational-safety-accessories/dust-protection-door) run from brackit at £9.95 to the SafeCore three-pack at £34.99. This page is the checks before you pay: the lining, a zip already fitted, and tape that holds on your frame. Named fits are on the [best dust protection door](/hub/occupational-safety-accessories/dust-protection-door/sub/dust-protection-door-best) page. The Products Compared editorial team compared these listings on 15 October 2026. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Measure the opening, not the leaf

A dust protection door has to be wider and taller than the hole you walk through. The door leaf is the wrong measurement. A common internal leaf is 1981 × 762 mm in England and Wales. The lining around that leaf is wider than the leaf. Measure the frame at the top, the middle, and the bottom, and keep the widest of those three. In this set the narrow sheet is dustguard, at 215 cm high by 95 cm wide, £13.89. brackit prints both widths. The title says 100 cm by 220 cm and a bullet says 110 cm by 220 cm, at £9.95. Use the lining, and treat those two figures as a clash you have to check.

Zip already on the sheet, or a zip you attach

Most of these listings arrive with the zip already in the sheet. brackit has a pre-assembled 4 m U-shape zip. KIRFEE has a zip on each sheet. Both SafeCore listings have a double-sided zip. ROLLINGDOG, at £13.99, is the exception. Its bullets tell you to tape the sheet, trim it, seal the edges, attach the zipper, and then slice the plastic. Choose a pre-fitted zip unless you are willing to stick and slit one. That order of work is on the how to fit a dust protection door page. A star rating does not tell you which of these you are buying.

Tape, light, and how many openings

Tape is the part that fails in the reviews, and the box contents are not the same. brackit includes 36 mm by 10 m of masking tape. KIRFEE and ROLLINGDOG include masking tape. WSDDBB says masking tape is not included. The SafeCore single title says with tape and the included-components line says No. Clear plastic keeps the daylight. SafeCore and dustguard are opaque. If the hall has no other window, an orange or black sheet turns the landing dark. Fabric versus a smooth sheet is the plastic or fabric dust protection door page. One opening points to brackit at £9.95. Two stated sheets are KIRFEE at £18.95.

What to leave in the search results

The same search that finds these sheets also finds products that are not a dust protection door. A self-adhesive zip with no sheet is a strip you stick onto sheeting you already own. A magnetic fly screen is insect mesh. An under-door draught excluder does not close the opening. Window film is for glass.

After you have measured

Stars do not settle the size. SafeCore's sheet is 4.2 from 1,109 reviews and still will not suit you if you need light and ordinary tape. brackit is 4.5 from 640. After you have measured the lining, chosen a pre-fitted zip unless you will slit one, and checked the tape against your frame, pick the listing that matches that opening.

Common questions

Do you measure the door leaf or the opening?
Measure the opening, meaning the lining, not the leaf. A common internal leaf is 1981 × 762 mm in England and Wales and 2040 × 726 mm in Scotland, and the lining is wider. Measure the frame at the top, the middle, and the bottom, and keep the widest figure. A sheet sized only to the leaf can miss the architrave you need to tape to.
Should the zip already be on the sheet?
Yes, unless you are prepared to stick a zip on and slit the plastic. brackit, KIRFEE, both SafeCore packs, and dustguard are recorded as pre-fitted. ROLLINGDOG tells you to attach the zipper and then slice. Buyers of that sheet report the adhesive letting go. If you do not want that step, leave ROLLINGDOG and take a pre-fitted listing. A higher star rating does not tell you which kind of zip is in the box.
Does the box include tape, and which tape?
brackit, KIRFEE, and ROLLINGDOG include masking tape. Reviewers often call it weak. dustguard includes 10 m of black duct tape, which reviewers say holds and which can lift paint. WSDDBB does not include masking tape. The SafeCore single title says with tape and the included-components line says No. The three-pack's included components say No. Test a short piece on a hidden patch of your frame before you commit the whole opening.
When is a pack of two or three the right buy?
Buy two sheets when you have two openings, or when you plan to join sheets across a wider gap, which KIRFEE reviewers describe. KIRFEE is £18.95 for two sheets with masking tape. WSDDBB is £13.95 with a pack-of-two title and a number-of-items line of 1, and only five reviews. The SafeCore three-pack at £34.99 is three fabric screens, with no tape in the included-components line. One doorway does not need three sheets.
What is not a dust protection door, even if the search shows it?
A zip strip on its own, a magnetic fly screen, an under-door draught excluder, and window film are not doorway dust sheets. Pole-hung fabric panels and hose-port dust-control doors are a different purchase, because they need hardware these listings do not include. Match the listing to a zip sheet that covers the opening you walk through.
