Hantek oscilloscope buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are on amazon.co.uk with Hantek titles that all lead with megahertz. A Hantek oscilloscope buying guide keeps one order: the form you can live with, then bandwidth, then whether sample rate and memory survive the channels you switch on. The [Hantek oscilloscope comparison](/hub/measuring-equipment/hantek-oscilloscope) keeps eight listings, captured from £65.99 to £262.99. Peter F. used those captures and the public pages below, not a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the form

The first split is whether a trace appears with the computer switched off. Bench instruments with their own screen are the DSO5102P, the DSO2C10, the DSO2D10, and the DSO2D15. The 6022BE and the 6022BL need a PC. The 1008C is the USB listing for several vehicle signals at once. The 2D42 is a 40 MHz handheld at £149.99. A DSO2C10 sentence that mentions vehicles does not turn that bench scope into the 1008C menus.

Bandwidth against the signal

Bandwidth here is the sine-wave frequency where amplitude is about 3 dB down. It describes a roll-off. It does not mean a square edge at that frequency still looks square. The Institution of Electronics gives a rule of thumb: for a square wave, about five times the fundamental keeps the fifth harmonic. Treat that multiple as a rule of thumb, not as a pass mark on a Hantek carton. A faster logic edge pushes you toward the 100 MHz bench titles or the 150 MHz DSO2D15. The 1008C amazon saved listing leaves bandwidth blank.

Sample rate and memory

Sample rate is how often the scope stores a point. Memory is how long the record lasts. DSO2000 bullets say 1 GSa/s and 8 M. Hantek's DSO2000 series page says the rate falls to 500 MSa/s and the record to 4 M when both channels run. That line is not in every amazon saved listing, so label it as the manufacturer page. The 6022 family is 48 MSa/s at 20 MHz. The DSO2D10 listing prints both 1 GSa/s and 200 MSa/s, and both 8 bit and 12 bits. Do not treat 12 bits as settled.

Generator, software, and the box

Buy a generator when you will inject a test wave and watch the result on the same instrument. Hantek's DSO2000 page places that generator on the DSO2D10 and the DSO2D15, described here as 25 MHz. The DSO2C10 bullet says that model has no 25 MHz generator, and the same bullet also says "arbitrary waveform output". Until the listing agrees with itself, treat the DSO2C10 as the bench scope without a generator, at £174.63. This guide does not claim Windows 11 for the 6022 pair. If the open question is the PC, use the Hantek USB or bench oscilloscope page.

What this guide will not decide

These instruments suit a home bench, a student lab, or a small workshop. They are a poor stand-in for a competent person at a consumer unit. HSE guidance in GS38 expects probes to meet BS EN 61010-031 and to show a CAT rating. CAT II is the appliance side. CAT III covers socket outlets and distribution boards. A bandwidth number does not make a hobby probe safe on a 13 A socket. The ground clip on a typical mains bench scope is protective earth. Clipping it to live or neutral, or lifting the earth so the case floats, is a reason to stop. Secondary ignition belongs with someone whose trade is vehicle electrics.

Common questions

Is 20 MHz enough?
It is enough when the signal is slow beside 20 MHz. A 10 kHz square wave, under the five-times rule of thumb, sits far below the 6022 pair at 20 MHz and 48 MSa/s. Faster edges point toward 40 MHz on the handheld or 100 to 150 MHz on the bench titles. Do not invent 20 MHz for the 1008C. That amazon saved listing does not print a bandwidth.
Does 1 GSa/s still apply when both channels are on?
Treat 1 GSa/s as the single-channel claim in the DSO2000 bullets. Hantek's series page states 500 MSa/s and 4 M of memory when both channels run, against 8 M on one channel. That sentence is missing from some saved listings, so confirm it on the manufacturer page. The DSO5102P page lists 1 GS/s and a record up to 40K.
Which kept models include a generator?
The DSO2D10 at £219.99 and the DSO2D15 at £215.99 are the bench listings we treat as including a generator, described as 25 MHz. The DSO2C10 bullet denies a 25 MHz generator and also mentions arbitrary waveform output, so wait for a consistent listing if a generator is why you are buying. The 2D42 handheld includes a generator as well. Skip the extra if you will never inject a test signal.
Why do Windows drivers matter on the cheap USB models?
The 6022BE and 6022BL have no screen, so an unsigned driver that will not install leaves you with a closed box. UK reviews describe that trouble. The 6022BE listing names Windows 10. We do not claim Windows 11, and one awkward review is not a failure rate. A bench Hantek in this set can show a trace with the PC off.
When is this the wrong tool and I should call a professional?
Stop for a consumer unit, for any plan to disconnect the scope earth, and for secondary ignition unless vehicle electrics are your trade. GS38's CAT III locations, socket outlets and distribution boards, sit outside a hobby bandwidth discussion. Hantek's DSO5102P page states 300 V RMS on a 10× probe for CAT I and CAT II. That is the manufacturer's limit on that page. It is not a claim that these probes are safe on a 13 A socket.
