How to set up a Worx Landroid

Updated: October 2026

The first afternoon with a robot mower should end with a tested boundary or a saved map, not a half-buried cable and an app that cannot see the mower. How to set up a Worx Landroid depends on the box: a WR142E follows a perimeter loop, while Vision and Vision Cloud models use cameras and mapping. Both need a carefully placed charging station, and their clearances are not interchangeable. Check the exact manual, then use our [Worx robot lawn mower comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/worx-robot-lawn-mower) to confirm which navigation method and accessories belong to your model. Look in the box before choosing a procedure

Start with the model number and the included parts. The WR142E lists 150 m of cable, 210 pegs, a charging base and nine spare blades. That is a wired install. WR169E reviews describe a guide wire its bullets do not name, so check the package before you assume pegs are supplied. The WR303E, WR305E and WR306E listings state that no boundary cable is required. They use VSLAM and RTK Cloud. The WR206E is wire-free camera Vision, not Vision Cloud. Do not peg a WR142E loop around a Cloud mower because both say Landroid. Walk the route before assembly. A robot cannot climb steps, open a locked gate or reach a detached patch with no path. If the lawn has a bank, pond or drop, read the Worx Landroid slope guide before you place a wire or map an edge.

Place the charging station first

Choose firm, level ground within reach of a dry outdoor socket. Classic wired guidance puts the base in shade, within 10 m of the socket, with about 80 cm of straight approach. Vision Cloud asks for no more than 5 degrees of slope and roughly 2 m clear in front. Use your model's figure. One WR303E reviewer found the transformer would not fit the outdoor socket box. Do not leave the connection in the rain. If the lead cannot reach safely, have a suitable outdoor supply fitted first. For Vision Cloud, test 2.4 GHz at the base before you fix it. A strong signal by the back door does not prove the dock by a shed. Guest networks can fail, and some password characters can block setup. Expect a solid green light before mapping. A red light means check the connections, not bury the cable.

If the box contains boundary wire

Lay the whole loop on the surface first. Classic guidance puts the wire about 26 cm from a step or gravel and 10 cm from a flush path. Use the gauge if the manual differs. Keep about 1 m from a neighbour's robot wire. Use smooth corners, and land both ends on the base terminals as the diagram shows. Watch several runs before you bury anything. Move the cable where a wheel drops off a kerb. The climb figure is not permission to put the lower wire on a bank. Wet grass can let the mower slide past it. Bury the loop only after it has worked, and only as deep as the manual allows.

If the mower is Vision or Vision Cloud

Cut the grass before pairing. Vision Cloud guidance says below 10 cm. The WR206E manual uses 9 cm. Clear toys and hoses, then set no-go areas the way your manual describes. Connect the phone to 2.4 GHz, switch the mower on, and use the default PIN only if the manual says so. Worx's setup article gives 0000. Scan the QR code under the battery cover, pair, and install any firmware update before the first map. The Wi-Fi note uses at least 50% battery. Watch the first map. If it leaves a wide border or misses an entrance, map that part by hand. Do not assume a magnetic strip is in the box. A WR306E reviewer could not map a second lawn with no path between the areas. Carry the mower, or reconsider the method in Vision or boundary wire.

Before you leave the mower running

Stop when the dock is powered, the status light matches the manual, and either the surface loop or the first map has been watched back to the charger. A second lawn up steps is a carrying job, not a schedule the mower will invent.

Common questions

Do I peg a boundary wire for Vision Cloud?
No. The WR303E, WR305E and WR306E listings describe wire-free Vision Cloud navigation. Follow their mapping and network procedure rather than installing a classic perimeter loop. The WR206E is also wire-free but uses camera Vision, so use its own manual for magnetic strips, passages and pairing.
Where should the charging station sit?
Place it on firm ground near a safe outdoor socket, with a straight approach and no standing water. Classic wired guidance uses about 80 cm clear in front. Vision Cloud guidance uses roughly 2 m and no more than a 5-degree base slope. Follow the figure for your model.
Why does setup require 2.4 GHz Wi-Fi?
Vision Cloud's connection procedure is designed around a 2.4 GHz network, which generally reaches farther outdoors than 5 GHz. Connect your phone to that band during pairing, avoid a guest network and test signal strength at the dock. If a combined router will not pair, consult its band-steering controls.
Should I bury the boundary wire immediately?
No. Peg it on the surface and supervise several complete runs first. You can then correct corners, docking lines and distances from steps without digging it up. Bury the loop only after it works reliably, and only to the depth permitted by the model's installation guide.
What if the transformer does not fit my outdoor socket?
Do not leave the enclosure open or expose the connection. Use a correctly sized weatherproof arrangement, and get professional electrical help if the outdoor supply needs alteration. The mower setup can wait. A protected UK power connection is a prerequisite, not a finishing detail.
Can I map a second lawn up steps?
The mower cannot drive up steps or through a closed gate. A second area needs a traversable route that the model can map, or you must carry the mower and use the supported separate-zone procedure. Confirm that procedure for the exact firmware and model before you rely on an automatic schedule.
