Cordless sheet metal shears: bare body or a kit

Updated: October 2026

You already own a Makita 18 V, DeWalt or Milwaukee pack, or you own none, and the cordless sheet metal shears on amazon.co.uk are titled as if they were those brands. In this set they are not. Five of the six rows on the [electric metal shears comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/electric-metal-shears) are cordless, and four of those five leave the battery out. The Products Compared editorial team checked those listings, DeWalt’s note on 18 V and 20 V XR, and HSE site-supply guidance on 22 October 2026. We have not fitted a pack. The name on the battery is not the name on the tool

Read the brand before the compatibility sentence. Roadtime sells three bare bodies that share a motor claim and change the foot. B0H7HN7RDY at about £56.99, WGT337-MT, names Makita 18 V packs BL1850B, BL1840B and BL1830B, and not Ni-Cd or G-series. It is not a Makita shear. B0H7HVWNNY at about £54.14, WGT337-DW, names DeWalt 20 V packs DCB200, DCB201, DCB203, DCB204, DCB205 and DCB206. It is not a DeWalt shear. B0H7J4GFY8 at about £56.99, WGT337-MWK, names Milwaukee packs by 48-11 part numbers. It is not a Milwaukee shear. Bostar X-039 puts a Makita 18 V claim on a Bostar title. TengXcel DCS09HL names DeWalt 20V MAX and 60V Flex and is not a DeWalt tool. The part numbers are the seller’s claim. None of the three Roadtime listings has a customer-reviews line. Do not treat the three feet as one tool.

What about £54 to £66 does not include

Those four prices are handles until a pack you already own clicks on. No charger, no case, no battery. TengXcel at about £65.21 adds IP54, an LED and a one-bolt head, and still no battery. Capacity is a 14GA head, not millimetres. The motor bullet says 400 Nm, which is not the Roadtime 400 W figure. Three UK texts sit behind 4.1 from four ratings. 20V MAX and 60V Flex are not the same pack. DeWalt groups XR 18 V and 20 V as one range, two labels for DeWalt’s own batteries. That is not a fit certificate for Roadtime or TengXcel. If your pack is not a number the seller printed, assume it does not fit until you try it on scrap, off the job.

Bostar Bostar X-039 kit

The only kit in the set

Bostar at about £75.99 states two 4.0 Ah batteries, a UK-plug charger and a case. Capacity is 1.5 mm iron, 2.0 mm aluminium and 1.2 mm stainless. If you have no Makita packs, this is the cordless price that can be a tool on arrival, when the carton matches the title. The technical cell says batteries are not required. The title says two. Keep both. The star line is 5.0 from three ratings with no review text, so it does not prove the Makita 18 V LXT claim or how long 4.0 Ah lasts. If you need a reviewed cut, Merry Tools at about £59.99, 4.4 from 167, is the evidence in this set, and it is a lead. Who should open which row is on the best electric metal shears page. Millimetres are on the buying guide.

Roof, site and a mains lead

People reach for cordless on a roof or a site because of the supply, not the brand in the title. HSE construction guidance points to cordless tools or a 110 V centre-tapped supply, rather than DIY 230 V leads, where site electrics are the hazard. Merry Tools at 220–240 V, plug unstated, belongs in a dry garage on flat sheet if the plug is a BS 1363 plug. That still does not make an about £54 bare body the site tool. Profiled roofing is a nibbler question, which electric shears vs nibbler decides before the battery. Buy a bare body only when the named packs are already yours.

Common questions

Do the cordless shears include a battery?
Four of the five do not. The three Roadtime bodies and the TengXcel body are sold without a battery or a charger. Bostar X-039 at about £75.99 is the listing that states two 4.0 Ah packs, a UK-plug charger and a case. Its technical cell also says batteries are not required, which conflicts with the title, so check the carton against the bullet list rather than against that cell.
Will a Makita 18V title run on my LXT packs?
Only as a seller claim, and only on the packs that seller names. Roadtime WGT337-MT names BL1850B, BL1840B and BL1830B, and it excludes Ni-Cd and G-series. Bostar claims Makita 18 V LXT and is not a Makita tool. Makita’s own LXT shears are a different range. There is no UK review in this set of either foot locking a pack. Try the fit on scrap first.
Is 20V MAX a different system from UK 18 V XR?
DeWalt presents XR 18 V and 20 V as one range with two labels. That is the maker’s account of DeWalt packs. It is not proof that Roadtime’s 20 V body or TengXcel’s 20V MAX and 60V Flex body fits the pack in your hand. 60V Flex is a different claim again. Match the part numbers the listing prints. A voltage word is not a verified fit.
What is the Milwaukee listing actually compatible with, according to the seller?
Roadtime WGT337-MWK at about £56.99 names Milwaukee 18 V packs 48-11-1820, 48-11-1828, 48-11-1835, 48-11-1840, 48-11-1850 and 48-11-1852. Battery and charger are not included. There is no star line. The tool brand is Roadtime. If your pack is not on that list, the listing has not claimed it.
Which price includes a charger with a UK plug?
Bostar at about £75.99. The bullets describe the charger as a UK plug, with two 4.0 Ah batteries and a case. The corded Merry Tools shear does not state a BS 1363 plug on its 220–240 V lead. The bare cordless bodies include no charger, so they do not answer the plug question at all.
