Einhell cordless vs corded lawn mower

Updated: October 2026

The lawn starts at the back door and the socket is in the kitchen, or it wraps a side path where a lead has already been cut once. That is the Einhell cordless vs corded lawn mower choice in this set: a Power X-Change deck with no mower cable, or a GC-EM that runs while the lead reaches. Products Compared compared the amazon.co.uk listings captured on 19 October 2026. We did not time a lawn. The two mains listings

Only two machines here plug the deck into the mains. The GC-EM 1600/37, model 3400080, is about £114.99. It is 1,600 W, with a 37 cm cut, a 38 litre box, and a lead the bullets state as 10 m. The seller recommends lawns up to 700 m². The star line is 4.5 from 298 ratings. People in that sample often talk about the box, the wheels, and the cable. The other mains listing is model 3400091, 1,800 W, 43 cm, a 50 litre box, at about £167.74, with a seller line up to 800 m². Cord length is not stated. The star line is 4.7 from four ratings, and one of three UK texts says the grass box will not stay in position. Four ratings do not beat 298, so the 1,600 W model is the mains buy with a known lead. The 1,800 W deck is the wider cut, with a thin review file.

Power that does not fade

A socket does not tire at the fifteenth stripe. That is the advantage over a pack. The 700 m² and 800 m² lines are seller recommendations, not one session and not a measured runtime. You still empty a 38 or 50 litre box, and you only cut grass the lead can reach. On a lawn that turns a corner, that 10 m lead is why the mower stays in the shed. The 1,800 W file does not state a lead length. Neither corded listing says the wheels are driven. If the lead is acceptable, the 1,600 W GC-EM is the corded Einhell to choose here. The best-value badge is the about £83.94 cordless kit, because that rule asks for a battery in the box. Mains is the better Einhell when you want power for the whole dry afternoon and you will manage the cable.

UK plug, RCD, outdoor lead

UK mains are 230 V, and the plug on the mower and on any charger is a BS 1363 plug. A Schuko plug with a travel adaptor is not a stand-in. Electrical Safety First's advice is a 30 mA RCD, the lead fully unwound so it does not heat on the reel, and stop if the cord is damaged. Keep the lead behind you, on grass you have already cut. A bright cord is visibility, not a guard. Any extension has to be rated for outdoor use and unwound as well. Stripe-by-stripe lead handling is on how to use an Einhell lawn mower. Cordless decks do not need a 13 A plug on the mower. Their chargers do, used somewhere dry. Height on the 1,600 W model is five single-wheel steps, so you set each wheel before you start.

When the Power X-Change set is the point

Choose cordless when the lead is why you are shopping, or when you already own Einhell 18 V packs. The about £83.94 kit mows a small lawn with a 3.0 Ah pack included. A 36 V deck is two 18 V packs, from the RASARRO at about £237.99 upward. A solo is cordless only if a pack is already at home. What cordless does not give you is the socket's patience. Packs fade in long grass, and a seller's 600 m² line is not a guarantee you will finish. If you have no packs and a socket within a lead you can route, stay with the 1,600 W GC-EM. The top-pick rule does not override a garden the lead cannot cross.

Common questions

When is the lead the better Einhell?
When the socket is close, you will use a 30 mA RCD, and you would rather empty the box than swap a battery. In this set that points to the 1,600 W model at about £114.99, with a stated 10 m lead and 298 reviews, ahead of the 1,800 W model's four ratings. It is the worse choice when the lawn turns a corner the lead cannot follow without crossing the blade.
Does the 1,800 W listing state a cord length?
No. Model 3400091 states 1,800 W, 43 cm and a 50 litre box. The lead length is unknown, so measure the cord in the carton. The 4.7 rests on four ratings, and one text says the grass box will not stay on.
Do chargers need a UK plug if the deck does not?
Yes. A cordless mower has no mains lead on the deck. The charger still expects a BS 1363 plug on 230 V, used dry. A corded mower needs that plug on the machine itself. A travel adaptor on a Schuko plug is not the UK arrangement.
Is "up to 700 m²" one session?
No. It is the seller's area guide on the 1,600 W bullets. You still empty the 38 litre box, and you only mow where the lead reaches. The 800 m² line on the 1,800 W model is the same kind of claim. Neither figure is a timed session on long grass.
Where do battery minutes belong?
On the runtime page. This comparison stops at how the power arrives: a lead that can run all afternoon inside its reach, or a pack that ends. Which?'s 15 minutes and Gardeners' World's 30 minutes belong to specific cordless models. They are not a reason to call 700 m² a stopwatch result.
