Cordless shears buying guide

Updated: October 2026

You have a shaggy box ball and a lawn fringe the mower missed, and every listing says hedge trimmer. A cordless shears buying guide puts the checks in an order that stops a bad buy: stem thickness, then whether a battery and charger are in the box, then whether you can hold the switch, and only then the price. The [cordless shears comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-shears) is the ten-row amazon.co.uk table last checked on 22 October 2026. Peter F. did not lab-test these tools, and this page does not crown one. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What you are cutting

Start with the stem, not the voltage. Printed ceilings in this file are narrow: 7.7 mm on the WORKPRO 12 V, 7.8 mm on the WORKPRO 3.6 V and the EZUVITA, 8 mm on the Enventor, and up to 10 mm on the Ryobi RY18GSA-0. The EasyShear, the Isio, the LIGO, the Yard Force and the DCA print no millimetre ceiling. Bosch's EasyShear page still limits that tool to young shrubs and light trimming. Reviews say the same thing without a number. The Yard Force jams on anything like a pencil. The LIGO will not take thicker hedge wood. An 8 mm shoot is soft green wood. A brown privet stem belongs with secateurs. A long woody face belongs on cordless shears vs a hedge trimmer. Higher voltage does not rescue a 12–20 cm blade once the stem is woody.

What is actually in the box

Several of these prices are not a price to start cutting. The Isio include line names the tool, a charger, an 8 cm grass blade and a 12 cm shrub blade. The Yard Force LH A17 lists both heads, a 7.2 V battery and a charger. The DCA ADGS20083 includes a 20 V 2.0 Ah pack and a charger. The LIGO bullets claim a charger, though reviewers also report a cable and no mains plug. The EasyShear include line lists the tool and the two blades, not a mains charger. The WORKPRO 3.6 V includes a USB-C cable and states that a charging brick is not included. The Ryobi at about £71.39 excludes the battery and the charger, so that shelf price is the body only. One named pick, after these checks, sits on the best cordless grass shears page, and only for soft growth.

Weight, switch and review count

Amazon prints 350 g for the Isio and 530 g for the EasyShear. The WORKPRO 3.6 V is 370 g without blades. The WORKPRO 12 V is 1.73 kg and the Yard Force is 1.2 kg. Two pages disagree with themselves: the LIGO prints 1.1 kg and a bullet says 1.31 lb, and the EZUVITA bullets say 670 g with the battery and hedge blade while Amazon prints 1.06 kg. Do not plan a sore shoulder on one of those figures. The switch is the next filter. EasyShear reviews call the safety button tiring or painful. The LIGO's safety does not lock off, and one owner cut a finger on first use. The EZUVITA's two buttons are hard on a ladder. If your hands will not hold a dead-man switch, a lower gramme figure does not fix it. A higher star average on a few dozen reviews is a thinner line than 4.3 from 3,438, not a better trial.

How to read the price bands

Around £26 to £33 you have the LIGO at about £25.99, the EZUVITA at about £26.99, the WORKPRO 3.6 V at about £26.80, the Enventor at about £29.99 and the Yard Force at about £32.04. The middle of the file is the EasyShear at about £42.95, the DCA at about £59.99 with a battery and charger, and the Isio at about £61. The Ryobi at about £71.39 sits alone because the pack is a second purchase. No-load minutes on the carton are unloaded. They are not the time a hedge will take.

Common questions

Do cordless shears come with a battery and a charger?
Sometimes. In this file the Isio, the Yard Force and the DCA name a charger, and they include a battery or an integrated cell. The Ryobi RY18GSA-0 excludes both. The WORKPRO 3.6 V includes a USB-C cable and not a mains brick. The EasyShear include line names the tool and two blades, not a mains charger. Cordless describes the motor. Read the include line of the ASIN, not the title.
What stem thickness is realistic?
Where a number is printed, expect about 7.7–10 mm of soft growth. Five listings print no ceiling. Reviews describe jams once growth is like a pencil or harder. Dry wood belongs with secateurs. A brown privet stem is outside a shear even when the browse node says hedge trimmer. Voltage in this set does not raise that ceiling.
Why is the Ryobi dearer if the battery is missing?
About £71.39 is the body and the blades. The amazon.co.uk title excludes the battery and charger. Compare it with a kit around £26 only after you add a pack you own or still have to buy. Until then it is not a price to start cutting, however capable the 10 mm claim sounds on fine stems.
Should I trust a 4.5-star tool with fewer than 30 reviews?
Use the count. The DCA's 4.5 is from 28 reviews, and the WORKPRO 12 V's 4.4 is from 12. The EasyShear's 4.3 is from 3,438. A small file can be genuine and still say almost nothing about a second season. Read it as a thin sample, not as a trial that beat the larger files.
What if I cannot hold the safety button?
Skip that row. EasyShear owners report a safety button that hurts to hold. LIGO reviews say the safety does not latch off. EZUVITA owners struggle with two buttons, including on a ladder. There is no comfortable override in these listings. If you cannot hold the control, the tool is the wrong shape for your hands.
When should I stop and buy a hedge trimmer instead?
When the face is long or the wood is thick. A 12–20 cm shrub blade here is a detail tool. A small soft box ball can stay with a shear. A woody privet run needs a longer bar, which is a different category, not a dearer row in this table.
