Cordless lawn mower battery life

Updated: October 2026

The lawn is half finished and the pack is flat, or it is March and the battery that worked in October will not take a charge. Cordless lawn mower battery life, in the sense of how many minutes you will get, is not a figure we measured. Printed minutes are the seller’s sentence. A flat lithium pack left in a freezing shed often will not behave in spring. This note is the care and troubleshooting page for the ten amazon.co.uk listings captured on 22 October 2026. Peter F. did not run the packs down on a timed lawn. Width and platform sit in the [buying guide](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/cordless-lawn-mower/sub/cordless-lawn-mower-buying-guide). What the listing minutes are

Litheli’s 20V attribute says 30 minutes. A Ryobi attribute says 45 minutes, and that line assumes an 18V ONE+ 5.0Ah battery the body-only title does not include. DEKO says up to 30 minutes, SEYVUM up to 45, and LIGO about 35 with a swap. Which? has reported an average of about 22 minutes on other cordless mowers, from 10 to more than 40. That is not a rate for these ASINs. UK reviews already show the spread, from about 15 minutes to about 25–30 minutes, and long or wet grass shortens all of those. The one-third rule is how to use a cordless lawn mower, not a way to stretch a tired pack.

One pack, two packs, or none

A second pack changes the afternoon more than a voltage slogan, because you can swap instead of waiting. Titles that name two batteries are LIGO at 2 x 2.0Ah, and the Litheli 40V row, DEKO and SEYVUM at 2 x 4.0Ah. Single-pack kits are both Einhells, 3.0Ah and 4.0Ah, plus Bosch at 4.0Ah, Forte at 4.0Ah and the Litheli 20V at 5.0Ah. Neither Litheli page names a charger as its own line. The Ryobi OLM1833B includes none, and its coverage sentence assumes a 5.0Ah ONE+ pack you already own. An Einhell PXC pack is not a spare for Ryobi or Bosch. If you already own a charged ONE+ or POWER FOR ALL pack, that pack is your second battery. Which rows earn a pick is on the best cordless lawn mower note.

When the pack misbehaves

A new battery that arrives dead is a problem with that unit, not a failure rate we can calculate. One Litheli 20V review describes a supplied pack with no lights. A replacement would not click into the slot. That is a return, under the Consumer Rights Act 2015, section 9, not a reason to force the pack into the slides. Litheli 40V reviews mention charges of about 10 hours and packs stuck at 50 percent. Stop cycling a pack that will not pass half. A Forte review describes a battery too hot to hold. Let it cool before it goes back on the charger. Smoke, or a smell of burning, ends the session. A LIGO review describes smoke in the first minutes. Unplug, do not refit, and do not open the cells. A charger that trips the RCD belongs with the socket and the charger.

Winter in a UK shed

A shed that freezes is a poor address for a lithium pack. Hayter’s battery-care note says store packs at about 5–40°C, around half full, out of the mower and off the charger. Mow and Edge, writing for UK storage, says the same shape of rule: part charge, indoors, frost-free, and a check every couple of months. If your manual says store fully charged, follow the manual. Take the pack out of the deck at the end of the season. Bring it into a cool room, not onto a radiator, charge only to the level the manual asks for, then unplug. In March, let a cold pack warm to room temperature before you charge it. If the pack is swollen, split, or will not charge at all, tape the terminals and take it to a battery recycling point. GOV.UK says lithium batteries do not go in the household bin.

Common questions

How long will one charge last?
Nobody measured these ten mowers on one lawn. Listing lines say about 30, 35 or 45 minutes, and Which?’s separate tests averaged about 22 minutes on other models. UK reviews here include about 15 minutes, about 20 minutes, and about 25–30 minutes, and they shorten further in long or wet grass. Treat every one of those as a report or a claim, then judge your own lawn after the first dry cut.
Where do I store the pack in a UK winter?
Indoors, frost-free, out of the mower, and off the charger. Hayter suggests about 5–40°C and around half charge. Your manual wins if it says something else. A freezing shed is how March starts with a pack that will not charge. Check it every couple of months through winter.
What if it will not charge past half?
Stop and swap to the charger that belongs to that pack. Litheli 40V reviews describe packs stuck at 50 percent and multi-hour charges. Do not leave a hot pack on charge. If it still will not pass half once it is cool, treat it as faulty and use the return or recycling route rather than another twenty cycles.
Can I put a swollen pack in the household bin?
No. Tape the terminals and take lithium packs to a battery recycling point. GOV.UK tells you not to bin them. Do not open the cells, puncture the case, or put a swollen pack back in the mower to see. A damaged pack is waste, handled as waste.
Which listings include a second pack?
LIGO names two 2.0Ah batteries. The Litheli 40V listing, DEKO and SEYVUM each name two 4.0Ah batteries. Both Einhells, Bosch, Forte and the Litheli 20V row name one pack. The Ryobi body names none. A second pack is a swap, not a promise of a measured number of minutes.
