Bosch hedge trimmer for tall hedges

Updated: October 2026

The hedge is above your head, and a longer handheld bar is the wrong next tool. A Bosch hedge trimmer for tall hedges is a pole you use with both feet on firm ground, or a job for someone with a proper platform. The [Bosch hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/bosch-hedge-trimmer) prices every listing. This page stays with reach. The cut and the nest check are on the [how to use a Bosch hedge trimmer](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/bosch-hedge-trimmer/sub/bosch-hedge-trimmer-how-to-use) page. Prices are the 19 October 2026 amazon.co.uk capture. Peter F. did not lab-test these poles. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Why a 60 cm bar is the wrong tool overhead

Blade length is how much face you take in one pass. Reach is whether that face is above you. The UniversalHedgeCut 60 has a 60 cm blade and 30 mm teeth, at about £130.15, and it is still a handheld cutter. Lifting it overhead puts the weight and the teeth in the wrong place. Which? says you cut a tall hedge from firm ground, or from a proper platform. A 45 cm Easy bar is the same overhead mistake at a shorter length. BS EN 62841-4-2 is the hedge-trimmer safety standard to name, including extended-reach tools up to 3.5 m. It is not permission to add a ladder under a live bar. If you cannot keep both feet on firm ground, neither pole in this set has solved the hedge.

UniversalHedgePole 18

The UniversalHedgePole 18 is about £99.90, rated 4.1 from 2,634 reviews, with a 43 cm blade and the battery excluded. The bullets name POWER FOR ALL. Amazon lists 4.88 kg. Bosch DIY lists 3.6 kg, 2.10 to 2.60 m of adjustment, and a 16 mm tooth opening. The amazon bullets do not state a tooth gap, and a 0.62 inch cutting-width cell is not the 43 cm blade. Reviewers call it top-heavy and report stalls on thicker stems. One review reported about 15 to 20 minutes on a pack, not Bosch DIY's claim of up to 2.5 hours on a 2.5 Ah pack. Some reviews describe ladders. That is not a method to copy. Skip this pole for a blue pack, or if 4.88 kg is already too much before a battery goes on.

GHE 18V-50 TP

The Professional GHE 18V-50 TP is about £269.99, rated 4.6 from 99 reviews. The title states a 2.5 m pole, a 50 cm blade and 23.5 mm teeth, and the included line lists a shoulder strap. The bullets claim AMPShare. Bosch recommends at least a 4.0 Ah pack and showed £332.11 including VAT. A green POWER FOR ALL pack will not fit. Ninety-nine reviews are a smaller sample than 2,634 on the DIY pole. The GHE 18V-50 FP, at about £209.99, is a different tool. One review says it has no telescopic extension. Handheld gaps stay in the Bosch hedge trimmer buying guide.

When the pole is still not enough

A pole replaces a ladder only while the top is inside its stated reach and both feet stay on firm ground. The DIY pole's Bosch page stops at 2.60 m. The TP title stops at 2.5 m. Nests in use are protected, and you cannot check a top you cannot see. An English agricultural hedgerow is restricted from 1 March to 31 August. A garden hedge is not automatically that hedgerow. Call someone with a platform when the footing fails, the hedge outgrows the pole, or the work is beside a road, a drop or a power line.

Common questions

Can a Bosch pole replace a ladder?
Only while both feet stay on firm ground and the top is inside the pole's stated reach. Which? wants tall hedges cut from the ground or a proper platform. Some UniversalHedgePole 18 reviews describe ladders. That is a report, not a method. If you still need to climb, the pole has not done the job.
How high does the UniversalHedgePole 18 reach?
Bosch DIY states 2.10 to 2.60 m of adjustment, a 43 cm blade and 16 mm teeth, at 3.6 kg on that page. Amazon lists about £99.90, a 43 cm blade, 4.88 kg, and no tooth gap in the bullets. The amazon price excludes the battery.
How high does the GHE 18V-50 TP reach?
The amazon title says a 2.5 m telescopic pole, a 50 cm blade and 23.5 mm teeth, at about £269.99 without a battery. Bosch Professional recommends at least a 4.0 Ah AMPShare pack and showed £332.11 including VAT. A 50 cm blade does not add to the 2.5 m pole.
Which battery does each pole use?
The DIY pole names POWER FOR ALL, the green 18 V family, and the battery is not in the box. The TP claims AMPShare, and Bosch recommends at least 4.0 Ah. The two systems are not compatible. A green drill pack will not start the TP.
Will it cut thick laurel at height?
Only if the stems fit the teeth. Bosch DIY states 16 mm on the green pole. The TP title states 23.5 mm, which takes thicker wood and still stops at a stem that will not enter. Anti-blocking does not change the gap. Wood above the gap needs loppers or a contractor.
Is the Professional FP the same kind of pole?
No. The GHE 18V-50 FP is about £209.99, 4.6 from 25 reviews, with no battery and no blade length in the spec block. One review says it has no telescopic extension. The blue tall-hedge pole is the TP.
When is the hedge still a job for someone else?
Hand it on when both feet cannot stay on firm ground, when the hedge is taller than the pole you can power, when you find a nest, or when the work is beside a road, a drop or a power line. England's farm-hedgerow closed season is 1 March to 31 August. A garden hedge is not automatically that hedgerow.
