Bosch hedge trimmer buying guide

Updated: October 2026

A summer privet or a woody laurel brings up amazon.co.uk results that are all called Bosch. A Bosch hedge trimmer buying guide starts with that hedge, not the star rating. The [Bosch hedge trimmer comparison](/hub/lawn-and-garden-equipment/bosch-hedge-trimmer) keeps the ten listings, the shelf prices and the conflicting cells. This page orders the decision: line, tooth gap, then a cord, a green 18 V pack, or a blue one. Prices are the 19 October 2026 amazon.co.uk capture. Peter F. did not lab-test these tools. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. Start with the hedge, not the star rating

Bosch DIY sorts its own range into Easy, Universal and Advanced. That table is Bosch's guide, not a British Standard. Easy is the short bar, about 45 cm and up to about 16 mm between the teeth. Universal sits around 45 to 55 cm and about 25 mm. Advanced is the long bar, about 65 cm and about 34 mm, and it is not an ASIN in this set. The blue GHE tools here are a different battery family. A young privet you cut every year is the Easy case. An old laurel that has been left needs a Universal gap, or loppers for wood the teeth will not take.

Tooth gap before blade length

Bosch DIY treats the tooth opening as the thickness the teeth are laid out for. In this set the stated gaps are 15 mm on the EasyHedgeCut 18-45 and the EasyHedgeCut 18V-44-11, 16 mm on the corded EasyHedgeCut 45, 20 mm on the UniversalHedgeCut 18V-50, 26 mm on the UniversalHedgeCut 50, and 30 mm on the UniversalHedgeCut 60. The GHE 18V-50 TP title states 23.5 mm. The GHE 18V-50 FP spec block does not state a gap. A wider gap is for thicker wood, and it leaves a coarser face on fine tips. Blade length is how much face you take in one pass. A longer bar still does not reach a top you cannot see from the ground. Do not read the cutting-width cell as the blade. The Universal 18V-50 body prints 0.78 inches beside a 50 cm blade. The UniversalHedgePole 18 prints 0.62 inches beside a 43 cm blade. Use the centimetre figure.

Cord, green 18 V, or blue 18 V

This set has three power paths, and watts should not be ranked against volts. The corded Easy is titled at 420 W. The corded Universal 50 and Universal 60 are titled at 480 W. Bosch DIY says 18 V suits small to medium hedges, and that large dense hedges need mains or 36 V. That 36 V family is not in this ASIN list. A green POWER FOR ALL pack fits the Easy and Universal cordless tools. A blue AMPShare pack fits the GHE FP and TP. Bosch Professional says the two systems are not compatible. The Universal 60 power cell says battery, while the title and the 10 m cable describe a corded tool. The Easy 18-45 voltage cell says 3.6 against an 18 V title. If the cable is what you keep cutting, see the cordless or corded Bosch hedge trimmer page.

What this set actually costs

The amazon.co.uk prices are the comparison figures. The EasyHedgeCut 45 is about £53.95 with the cable in the box. The Easy bodies are about £57.00 with no battery, and UK reviews put a pack and charger at about £35 to £50. The Universal 18V-50 body is about £99.95 and the DIY pole is about £99.90, both bare. The corded Universal 50 is about £108.95 and the Universal 60 is about £130.15. The 18V-50 kit is about £139.94 with a 2.5 Ah pack and charger. The GHE FP is about £209.99 and the TP is about £269.99, both without a battery. On 21 October 2026 the Bosch shop showed the Easy 45 at £67 and the TP at £332.11 including VAT.

Common questions

What does tooth spacing mean on a Bosch cutter?
Tooth spacing is the gap the teeth are laid out for, not a quality score. Stated figures here run from 15 mm on the cordless Easy bodies to 30 mm on the UniversalHedgeCut 60. A 15 mm Easy stalls on finger-thick old wood. A 30 mm bar leaves a coarse face on fine box.
Is 18 V enough for a thick hedge?
Bosch DIY says 18 V suits small to medium hedges, and that large dense hedges need mains or 36 V. The 36 V tools are not in this comparison. If the stem will not enter the teeth, the voltage will not finish it. The corded Universal bars at 26 mm and 30 mm are the thicker-wood path beside a socket.
Why is the battery not in the box?
Several titles exclude the battery and charger, so about £57.00 or about £99.95 is only the body. UK reviews on the Easy bodies put a pack and charger at about £35 to £50, which is a review report, not a live offer. The Universal 18V-50 kit at about £139.94 includes a 2.5 Ah pack and an AL 1830 CV charger.
Does a green drill battery fit a blue Professional tool?
Green POWER FOR ALL 18 V fits the Easy and Universal cordless tools. Blue AMPShare fits the GHE FP and TP. Bosch Professional says the systems are not compatible. A green drill pack will not run the blue pole. The listing has to name the family. The words 18 V on their own are not enough at checkout.
Should the cutting-width cell be read as the blade?
Use the blade-length cell in centimetres. The Universal 18V-50 body prints 0.78 inches as cutting width and 50 cm as the blade. The DIY pole prints 0.62 inches and a 43 cm blade. The inch figure is not the bar.
