Rose of Jericho buying guide: the name, count and box

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a dried brown ball in an amazon.co.uk basket, and the title says Rose of Jericho, resurrection plant, or Rosa de Jerico. This Rose of Jericho buying guide decides whether that listing is the plant you mean before you pay. Check a printed species name first, then a piece count and a size that agree, then what is in the box, then the price in pounds and the star line. The [Rose of Jericho comparison](/hub/houseplants/rose-of-jericho) puts the same listings next to each other. Peter F. used amazon.co.uk files captured on 20 October 2026 and RHS names, and did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase through a link on that comparison can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the name on the listing

The shop name on the listing does not tell you which plant will arrive. The Royal Horticultural Society records both Selaginella lepidophylla, the resurrection clubmoss, and Anastatica hierochuntica, the holy rose, as rose of Jericho, and neither is native to Britain or Ireland. Rosa de Jerico, resurrection plant, and fern still cover both, so those words are not a species check. A printed binomial is the line that separates them, and only when it is the species you meant to order. In this capture, YAKEBA prints Selaginella lepidophylla, HOSTENATURA puts that name in the description, and the Brxmpn title names it. EquSym’s 7-pack and the HERBALISTA packs print no binomial. Générique prints Anastatica hierochuntica, so Latin on the page can be the annual, sometimes sold as Chajarat Mariam, rather than the spikemoss. Bristol Botanicals uses the same English name for Selaginella pilifera, which is not among the ten amazon.co.uk listings here. How the two RHS plants differ is on the Selaginella or Anastatica page.

Make the count and the size agree

A piece count is useful only when the title, the unit-count field, and the size or weight say the same thing. HERBALISTA’s titles say 4-pack and 8-pack while the unit-count field says 1.0. Générique’s title says 10 pieces and the field says 8.0. Distrust the larger headline until those fields match. Size is a different line from pack count. YAKEBA caps diameter at 7 cm on a listing that also names the spikemoss. HOSTENATURA is one piece with an item length of 10 cm. Weight is not a piece count either: VITALIA sells the annual as 50 g and as 100 g, and the 100 g bullet says about 3 to 5 flowers. If the numbers fight, do not assume the bigger figure will arrive. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 expects a match to the description when a parcel is short, and Citizens Advice on 0345 404 0506 is the number if a return then stalls.

See what the box contains

In this set the parcel is the dried plant, sometimes a bag, and a gift box only once. YAKEBA is that gift box. It names Selaginella lepidophylla, and the capture price is £21.74, towards the top of these listings. You may be paying for the box rather than for a larger ball. No listing here includes a display bowl or a decorative pot. A photograph of a green rosette in ceramic is styling, not a contents line, and you still need your own dish. You will also need a dry-down after the ball has opened, which the how to revive a rose of Jericho page sets out. Leave fertility, tea, and energy-cleansing bullets unread as reasons to buy, because they are seller text. Desert-rose bulbs in the same amazon.co.uk search are a different plant.

Then look at price and the star line

Take prices from the 20 October 2026 capture, not from a later glance at the results page. That page already showed HERBALISTA at £14.96 for the 4-pack and £18.94 for the 8-pack, while the files show £17.00 and £17.72. Across the files, the entry band is £4.90 to £12.58, the middle band is £16.00 to £19.51, and the top of this set is YAKEBA at £21.74 and Générique at £29.99. A lower price can still name the spikemoss, as HOSTENATURA does at £5.85, and the highest price here is the annual, so pounds do not sort the species. The star line is the amazon.co.uk aggregate, not a count of buyers in Britain. EquSym’s 7-pack is 4.2 from 535, which is not 535 UK buyers, while Brxmpn is 2.5 from 2. VITALIA and Générique have no customer-reviews line in the files. Written reviews in these files are mostly not from the United Kingdom, and YAKEBA’s are German and French. Use the stars after the name and the count agree. Which listing suits you is on the best rose of Jericho page.

Common questions

Which name on the listing tells you the plant?
The binomial does. Selaginella lepidophylla is the resurrection clubmoss. Anastatica hierochuntica is the holy rose, sometimes sold as Chajarat Mariam. Rosa de Jerico, resurrection plant, and fern do not separate them. If the listing prints no binomial, as EquSym’s 7-pack and the HERBALISTA packs do not in this capture, the title alone does not tell you the species.
Why do the title and the unit-count field disagree?
The title is seller text, and the unit-count field on the same amazon.co.uk listing can state another number. HERBALISTA’s titles say 4-pack and 8-pack while the unit-count field says 1.0. Générique’s title says 10 pieces and the field says 8.0. That clash does not mean the larger number will arrive. If the two disagree, treat the count as unsettled rather than as a cheaper multipack.
Does a bag or a gift box come with a rose of Jericho?
Only when the listing says so. In this capture the contents are the dried plant, sometimes a bag, and a gift box only on YAKEBA, which also names Selaginella lepidophylla. No listing in the set includes a display bowl or a decorative pot. A styled photo of a bowl is not a bowl in the parcel. You still supply the dish, and you still need a dry-down after the ball opens.
Are the star counts UK reviews?
The star line is the amazon.co.uk aggregate, and the number beside it is not a count of UK buyers. EquSym’s 7-pack shows 4.2 from 535 in the 20 October 2026 files, which does not mean 535 people in Britain reviewed it. Written reviews in these files are mostly from outside the United Kingdom. YAKEBA’s written reviews are German and French. VITALIA and Générique have no customer-reviews line in the files.
Should you buy the cheapest rose of Jericho?
A low price is not a species check. In this capture the entry band is £4.90 to £12.58, and HOSTENATURA at £5.85 names Selaginella lepidophylla in the description, while other low prices may print no binomial. These bands are the 20 October 2026 files, not the cheapest plant on the internet, because the results page that day already showed different HERBALISTA prices. Pay less only when the name and the count still agree.
Is a desert-rose bulb the same plant?
No. A desert-rose bulb can appear in the same amazon.co.uk search, and it is a different plant from the dried ball. On these dried listings the English name covers Selaginella lepidophylla or Anastatica hierochuntica. Bristol Botanicals also uses rose of Jericho for Selaginella pilifera, which is not in this amazon set. A bulb is none of those three, so leave it out of the order.
