Fake hanging plants for a bathroom

Updated: 21 October 2026

The shelf beside the basin is empty because the last living trailer rotted, and the window is frosted or missing. Fake hanging plants for a bathroom have to sit on a ledge a few centimetres deep and survive steam without a care routine. They still collect dust. The ten faux packs are on our [hanging plant comparison](/hub/houseplants/hanging-plant). Peter F. checked the listings on 20 October 2026. We did not steam-test these plastics. Why bathrooms and live plants fall out

The Royal Horticultural Society says a bathroom with plenty of natural light can suit houseplants, and that a bathroom with no windows is not suitable for live plants. Humidity is not daylight. A frosted panel that never throws a shadow is the same problem. People often blame steam for a dead pothos. In a windowless room the RHS points at the missing light. Epipremnum wants bright indirect light and is toxic around pets. The four-pack’s bullets say you do not water it. IKEA’s FEJKA hanging line, about £3 to £5, is a different shelf for a room with no window.

What fits a small shelf

Stated pots are about 8–9 cm across where a width is given. The four-pack is about 8.99 cm at the top and 8 cm high. The eucalyptus is about 3.4 inches across the top. DazSpirit’s pots are about 8 × 7.5 cm, and only two of four plants hang. A shower tray or a cistern can take that. A soap dish usually cannot. A 100 cm Lafecuw vine will lie in the basin if the hook is only 40 cm above it. UK reviews name this room for the four-pack, the eucalyptus, the pothos pair, DREAMS 21, BTSD-home and SSB. That is use, not a steam test. HeeTeem’s bullets name a bathroom, with only two UK reviews. JISRKP has no pot. One eucalyptus at £8.99 matches a single tray. Four styles need four places.

Smell, steam and tipping

A small bathroom holds a plastic smell. Air the plant on a landing first. Reviews often say it fades in a day or two, and one Lafecuw note still found it close to the leaves after a month. Do not soak it in the bath. Steam is not a test we ran. Waterproof or UV-resistant on a bullet is a seller claim with no British Standard, and it is not mould-proof. Keep foliage out of the direct spray. Tipping is the ordinary failure on a cistern. BTSD-home, DREAMS 21 and HeeTeem reviews describe light pots. Set the starter pot inside a heavier cachepot. Do not add water as ballast. A private bathroom is not a Fire Safety Order project unless the room is a workplace or a shared escape route.

If your bathroom does have light

A bright bathroom can take a living trailer if you will water it and keep toxic species away from pets and children. The RHS allows houseplants where there is plenty of natural light. String of hearts is the hanging plant it names. Epipremnum and Hedera stay out of reach. String of beads still rots if the sill stays wet. That choice is real vs artificial hanging plants. Come back to faux if the window is gloomy, if you will not water, or if a cat already ate the last ivy. The eucalyptus, about 24 inches at £8.99, is the short pot UK reviews put on a shower tray, and the hook is not in the box.

Common questions

Can any live hanging plant cope with no window?
The RHS says a bathroom with no windows is not suitable for live plants. Humidity does not replace daylight. A frosted window that never gives a bright indirect patch is the same practical problem. If that is your room, use a faux trailer. If you have plenty of natural light and you will water, a living plant is possible, and toxic species still need to stay away from pets.
Will steam kill a fake plant?
These listings do not report a shower test, so this page will not claim they are steam-proof or mould-proof. Waterproof and UV-resistant are bullet wording without a British Standard. Keep the foliage out of direct spray, dust with a damp cloth, and let it dry. A plant left in pooled water on a glass shelf can still mark the shelf and hold a plastic smell, even though the leaves will not rot like a live stem.
Are the pots small enough for a shower shelf?
Where a size is stated, the pots are about 8–9 cm across. The Der Rose four-pack is about 8.99 cm at the top and 8 cm high. The single eucalyptus is about 3.4 inches across. That can sit on a shower tray or a cistern and will not suit a narrow soap dish. UK reviews mention the eucalyptus on an upper shower tray. The same small base is why some pots tip, so a heavier outer pot has to fit the same ledge.
Which of these packs did UK buyers put in bathrooms?
Reviews in the files mention a bathroom, a shower tray or a dark corner for the Der Rose four-pack, the Der Rose eucalyptus, the Der Rose pothos pair, DREAMS 21, BTSD-home and SSB. That is someone using the plant, not a humidity test. HeeTeem’s listing names a bathroom and has only two UK reviews. JISRKP’s file does not support a bathroom-pot story, because there is no pot.
Should I hang it above eye level in a small room?
Yes, if the vine will not land in the basin. DREAMS 21 reviewers say the plastic shows when you look down into the pot. A 24 inch eucalyptus is easier in a cloakroom than a 100 cm vine, because the longer trail will lie in the basin if the hook sits only a short way above it.
