Magnetic fly screen buying guide: measure the frame

Updated: 21 October 2026

You have a warm evening, a back door or a bedroom window, and a search that treats both as the same product. They are not. A door screen is a split curtain you walk through. A window screen is a panel you trim and lift off the handle. This magnetic fly screen buying guide puts that choice first, then the centimetres, then the mesh the listing prints. Stars and shelf prices sit on the [magnetic fly screen comparison](/hub/hedges-and-privacy-screens/fly-screen-magnet). The notes come from those amazon.co.uk listings, captured on 19 October 2026. Two products share the name

The door curtains are walk-through cloths with hook-and-loop on the frame and magnets in the centre. The window kits are mesh you cut down from a stated maximum, with no centre you can walk through. A 200 cm curtain will not become a casement panel, and a kit for a 130 cm window will not cover a back door. Curtains in this batch run from about £11.99 to £18.95 and the kits from about £22.93 to £29.90. Those bands tell you which shelf you are on, not which row fits the frame. If you can walk through, stay with the curtains. If you lift a casement, leave them. That fork is on magnetic fly screen door or window.

What the centimetres on the packet mean

The number in the title is not always the hole in the frame. WENT prints 110 by 220 cm including the edge Velcro. SMALUCK prints 80 by 200 cm and asks for about 2 inches extra. DDGAO wants the inner frame plus 8 cm of width and plus 6 cm of length. You cannot copy one brand's extra centimetres onto another packet. Moskera says add 4 cm of width and 2 cm of height only for an inner door hole, and add nothing if you measured the tape surface. Slightly short leaves a gap. Flyscreen Queen says not to trim a magnetic door screen, because the hem weights and magnet strips sit in the cloth. Cut a kit: MiLeJu up to 120 by 130 cm, NeatiEase up to 100 by 130 cm, JOOFAN up to 79 by 145 cm. Do not cut a weighted curtain.

Mesh you can verify

Most of these listings name house flies, wasps and mosquitoes. That is not a weave count. Flux Phenom is the only curtain that prints both 52 sewn magnets and a 1 mm hole. The others name nylon or polyester and leave the hole size blank. WENT's 4.6 from 10,937 reviews is not an 18×16, 20×20 or 30×20 weave. Moskera treats 18×16, holes about 1.1 to 1.5 mm, as a fly grade. An unstated curtain can still be a fair buy for a July kitchen once the size overlaps. If tiny insects are the point, read fly screen for midges before you sort by stars. A pet pushing the split is not a lock.

What to check on the listing

These curtains use hook-and-loop on a clean, dry frame. Pins make holes, and a lease or a listed building can forbid marks. On SMALUCK, a no-marks line conflicts with a review that reports glue. DDGAO describes sticky tape, and one of nine UK reviews says the Velcro was missing. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives a short-term right to reject goods not as described, generally within 30 days. A size you mis-measured is a different problem. Check the box before you peel the backing. Large door, 110 by 220 cm including Velcro: WENT. Door near 80 cm: SMALUCK. Printed hole size, up to 90 by 210 cm: Flux Phenom. One casement: a kit inside its maximum. A crumbling frame or a wide slider is the wrong shelf.

Common questions

Door curtain or window kit?
Buy a door curtain if you will walk through and you want the centre to close behind you. Buy a window kit if you trim mesh to a casement or a louvre. The curtains here are WENT, SMALUCK, DDGAO and Flux Phenom. The kits are MiLeJu, NeatiEase and JOOFAN.
Can I cut it narrower?
Cut a window kit down from its maximum. Do not assume a door curtain can be cut. Flyscreen Queen says not to trim a weighted magnetic door screen. A SMALUCK review says that 80 by 200 cm curtain could not be narrowed. If the cloth is wider than the frame, order a smaller stated size.
Is a 4.5-star curtain automatically the finer mesh?
No. WENT is 4.6 from 10,937 reviews and does not state a hole size. Flux Phenom is 4.5 from 75,289 on the listing line and does state 1 mm holes. The star line does not invent a weave the bullets omitted.
Will hook-and-loop be allowed in a rented flat?
The curtains are sold as no-drill, which is why tenants look at them. Adhesive can still leave residue, and pins make holes. Read the lease before you stick tape to uPVC. If the lease bans marks, this set is a poor bet.
When is a dearer specialist kit a different buy?
When you need a stated fibreglass weave, a made-to-measure door, or a framed window these rows do not cover. Moskera's door screen is around £29.99 on the maker's site, and some UK DIY kits are nearer £59 to £119. Those are shop prices from 19 October 2026, not rows in this comparison.
