Jubilee clip or T-bolt

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a soft silicone hose or an intercooler pipe, and the choice is jubilee clip or T-bolt. Use a worm-drive when the hose is ordinary rubber and the fitted diameter sits in the middle of a wide range. Use a T-bolt when the hose is soft or boosted and you can measure a narrow window. Packs and prices stay on the [hose clamps comparison](/hub/hand-tools/hose-clamps). Peter F. set that condition from UK hose sellers and the one T-bolt listing here, on 23 October 2026. We did not pull a boosted pipe on a rig. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Two different clamps

A jubilee clip, in everyday UK speech, is a worm-drive: a slotted band and a screw, often over a range about 10 mm wide. RS notes that the grip is highest near the housing. That is acceptable on firm rubber, and it is why a soft hose can creep under the band. A T-bolt closes with a bolt and a nut over a few millimetres. UK hose shops sell that shape for silicone, turbo and intercooler hoses because the window is too narrow to hide a bad measurement. Kit-car owners also report leaks with T-bolts. That disagreement is experience, not a standard.

Choose a worm-drive when

Choose a worm-drive when the hose is firm rubber and the fitted diameter sits in the middle of a wide window. The Hosemaster puts ordinary low to medium pressure on that side of the chart. A worm-drive is the default for a washing-machine drain, a water butt and a rubber heater hose. It is a weak default for silicone on a boosted pipe. Viper Performance says a smooth-band worm-drive can hold silicone if the band does not cut, and still sells T-bolts for turbo hoses. If the size is inside a Leryati or WELHAEPI window, follow how to fit a jubilee clip.

Choose a T-bolt when

Choose a T-bolt when the hose is silicone, or the pipe sees boost, and you have measured the fitted outside diameter. Put that number near the middle of the window. A 70 mm outside diameter might be matched to something like a 67–75 mm clamp, and only after you have your own measurement. Too large, and the nut bottoms before the hose is compressed. Too small, and the clamp will not pass over the bead. A claim of two to four times the clamping force circulates on US pages and is not a UK test of this set. Small fuel lines are on fuel line hose clips.

What the Glarks assortment actually is

Glarks, B08P1Q2JVN, is 12 T-bolt clamps at about £19.94, with 4.4 from 418 reviews. You get two each of 32–37, 41–46, 51–59, 63–71, 76–84 and 108–116 mm. A 40 mm hose falls between 37 mm and 41 mm, so this is not one continuous range. The title says stainless steel and the bullets add zinc plating. Viper's W2 example also uses a zinc-plated bolt, so a plated fastener on a stainless T-bolt is a known pattern. Reviews include breakage and a clamp that deformed on a pressurised water hose. If your window is missing, the set cannot invent it.

If you cannot measure

Leave a boosted pipe you cannot measure. A guessed T-bolt either runs out of thread or never reaches the hose. A silicone coolant hose follows the T-bolt condition above.

Common questions

Is a jubilee clip the same product as a T-bolt?
A jubilee clip in ordinary UK speech is a worm-drive band and screw, and Jubilee is also a brand. A T-bolt closes with a bolt and a nut and works over a few millimetres. They both hold a hose on a spigot. They are different mechanisms, with different size windows, and a packet that says jubilee is not a T-bolt unless the listing shows the bolt.
Why do silicone and intercooler hoses get a T-bolt in UK hose shops?
The Hosemaster and UK performance sellers point silicone, turbo and intercooler hoses at a T-bolt because the window is narrow and the clamp can bear more evenly than a worm housing. Kit-car owners also report leaks with T-bolts and stripped cheap worm-drives, so the shop advice is a condition, not a guarantee. You still need the fitted outside diameter inside that short window.
Can a good worm-drive still hold a rubber coolant hose?
Yes, when the hose is firm rubber, the engine is cold, and the fitted diameter sits in the middle of the clip's range. Stop before the band cuts the rubber. A silicone coolant hose is the case for a measured T-bolt. A thin assortment that reviewers call sharp is a poor match for either soft hose.
How narrow is a T-bolt size window?
Often a few millimetres. The Glarks pairs are 32–37, 41–46, 51–59, 63–71, 76–84 and 108–116 mm. A worm-drive assortment in the same comparison spans windows of about 10 mm and more, such as 16–25 mm or 27–51 mm. The narrow window is the reason you measure before you buy the T-bolt.
What is in the only T-bolt set in this comparison?
Twelve Glarks clamps, two of each of the six windows above, at about £19.94, with 4.4 from 418 reviews. The bullets mention zinc plating. Reviews include breakage and a clamp that deformed on a pressurised water hose. There is no second T-bolt brand in this table.
Does stainless T-bolt mean the bolt is stainless too?
On the Glarks listing, the title says stainless steel and the bullets add zinc plating. A review also describes a plated bolt. Treat the fastener as plated unless the page says the bolt, the nut and the band are the same grade. That is a different claim from an all-304 or all-316 worm-drive.
