Best stainless steel grill grate

Updated: 16 October 2026

You want one best stainless steel grill grate, and a best-seller rank is not a measurement of your ledge. That list mixes cooking grids, charcoal grates and named parts. This page splits the jobs in the [stainless steel barbecue grill grate comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/stainless-steel-barbecue-grill-grate): a one-person fire pit, a thin mesh for a measured rectangle, a 30 cm round that states 304, and a round of about 40 cm. It also says when to leave the £4.99 to £14.48 band. The Products Compared editorial team updated this on 15 October 2026 from those listings. We did not run a lab cook. A small round for one person or a fire pit

The LegendTech mesh is 19 × 19 × 2 cm, with legs, a listed weight of 100 g and 304 in the bullets, at £5.41. It shows 5.0 from 2 ratings. One UK review says the size is right for one person. Two ratings cannot tell you how it behaves after a wet month. Buy it for a measured 19 cm opening and one person. The AMJKEJI mesh is about 15 cm, 90 g, £4.99, with 304 in the bullets and 4.4 from 50 ratings. Reviewers use it under a coffee pot, on a toaster or on a camping stove. One review says it burned through after one use. Compared with a kettle grate, it is a trivet.

A mesh sheet, not a kettle grate

The MMLFX sheets are 45 × 30 cm at £5.59, 40 × 30 cm at £5.99 and 40 × 40 cm at £7.29. The titles say 304 and the specification says stainless steel. The printed weight of 1 g is not a real mass. All three share 4.1 from 28 ratings, so count that block once. Reviewers mention thin wire, a bent arrival and meat that bends the wires once they are hot. The £5.59 sheet is the best value for a rectangle you have measured, and a poor buy if you need bars that stay flat or the barbecue is round. The 40 cm round at £10.88 is the top pick for an opening of about 40 cm. It shares 3.8 from 16 ratings with the 45 cm round at £14.48, and the material line gives no grade. You pay £3.60 less for the same texts. Open the 45 cm listing only when you measured about 45 cm.

The only 30 cm grate that states 304

The Rovelin grate is the only product here that states 304 and a weight that looks like a real object. It is 30 × 30 × 1 cm, 600 g, at £10.39, and the listing tells you to measure before you order. Bar diameter is not stated. There is no star line and no review text, so this file cannot say whether the bars stay flat or whether the 304 claim survives a wet week. Open it when you have measured a 30 cm kettle, not as the top pick for every barbecue. A 47 cm Weber takes about 44.5 cm, and a 57 cm kettle takes about 54.5 cm. Those figures are on the Weber kettle cooking grate size page. Compared with a reviewed grate, you are trusting the bullets.

When to leave this price band

Leave this set when the kettle has a part number. Weber UK part 8413 is a 44.5 cm plated grate for 47 cm barbecues at £29.99. For a 57 cm kettle, part 7437 is the stainless hinged cooking grate. wowbbq showed £69.74 and says it does not measure 57 cm across. Other UK pages checked on 15 October 2026 showed about £49.99 to £69.74, and amazon.co.uk lists 54.61 cm. Leave again when you want a bar diameter in writing. UK-made 304 grids on barbecue-smoker-recipes.com run about £109 to £329. Stainless still stains if you scrub it with steel wool, which is why the 304 or 430 stainless grill grate page treats grade as a corrosion choice. Measure first, using the stainless steel BBQ grate buying guide. A £150 grate of the wrong diameter is a worse miss than a £6 mesh of the right one.

Common questions

Who should not buy the MMLFX mesh?
Skip it if you are replacing a kettle cooking grate, cooking a heavy joint, or you need the grid to arrive flat and stay flat. The shared 4.1 from 28 ratings, counted once, describes thin wire that bends under hot meat. The printed weight of 1 g is not a reason to trust the build.
Is the 15 cm AMJKEJI a kettle grate?
No. It is about 15 cm and 90 g, at £4.99, and the reviews use it under a coffee pot, on a toaster, in an air fryer and on a camping stove. A kettle cooking grate for a 47 cm Weber is about 44.5 cm, and for a 57 cm kettle about 54.5 cm. One review also says the mesh burned through after a single use.
When is a Weber stainless grate the better buy?
When you own a 57 cm kettle and you want hinged part 7437, not a generic disc. UK pages put it at about 54.5 to 54.6 cm, not 57 cm. Prices checked on 15 October 2026 ran from about £49.99 to £69.74. Part 8413 at £29.99 is plated.
Can the 40 cm and 45 cm rounds be ranked separately?
Not as two tests. They share one review block and one star line of 3.8 from 16 ratings, including a battery review and a gap complaint about a 50 cm grate. The useful difference is the title diameter and the price: £10.88 against £14.48. Choose the diameter you measured.
What should a top pick state on the specification table?
A measured diameter, a steel grade rather than the word stainless alone, and a bar diameter or a credible weight. Only the 30 cm Rovelin states 304 and 600 g, and it has no reviews. The 40 cm top pick states the diameter and does not state a grade.
