Gas BBQ cover for a hooded barbecue

Updated: 23 October 2026

The hood is shut, both side shelves are still out, and the LPG cylinder sits in the trolley. By the end you should know whether one of these nine amazon.co.uk covers can clear the shelves and the closed lid, and what you do with the cylinder before the cloth goes on. The [Grill case comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/grill-case) ranks those covers, from about £7.10 to £20.68. This page applies the measurements to a hooded gas barbecue. We used the UK listings and public UK gas guidance, with no lab test of the cloth. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Shelves, the lid and a side burner

A gas barbecue is wider than the firebox once the shelves stay out. Camping Gas tells owners to measure shelves that do not fold, because a burner count will not give you those centimetres. A side burner that does not fold is part of the length, in the same way a fixed shelf is. A hooded grill in this range often needs 110 to 120 cm of closed height. The large cluster in this set is about 145 to 147 cm long, 61 cm deep and 117 to 120 cm high. Yimomoyi states 117 cm of length. On a wide four-burner with both shelves out, 117 cm stops short of the shelf tips. The tape method itself is on the BBQ cover size guide.

What these listings actually say about gas

Only some titles name a burner count. LEUOSO is the listing that says 3–4 burner in the title, at 145 x 61 x 117 cm and £16.99. Kauytt uses the same 145 x 61 x 117 cm and names Landmann, Weber, Char-Broil, Tepro and Brinkmann in the bullets. Those names describe grills the seller hopes the rectangle will cover. They do not make the cover a Weber product. YOTOM reviews on amazon.co.uk mention covering a four-burner and, in a separate comment, covering a gas bottle because the cover is large. A cloth tall enough to hide the cylinder is not a storage method, and it does not mean the valve can stay open. BS EN 498:2012 is the specification for an LPG barbecue for outdoor use, not for the fabric you pull over it.

Cylinder off, and the bottle stays outdoors

Shut the cylinder before you think about the cover. Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service says to turn the cylinder off before the controls, to change cylinders outdoors, and to let the barbecue cool before you move it. Camping Gas says to disconnect the gas before covering and never to cover a hot or warm barbecue. The Morsø Forno UK manual, written for that brand's gas barbecue, says to use a cover only when the grill is dry and cool, never to store the cylinder indoors, and, if the barbecue itself is stored inside, to disconnect the cylinder and leave it outside. Leave the valve closed. Do not wheel a covered gas barbecue into the garage with the cylinder still in the trolley and the hose attached. The square fit and the hem are on the how to fit a BBQ cover page. Damp under a sealed cover is the subject of the waterproof BBQ cover page.

When another cover will not fix the gas path

A new cover does not replace a hose check. If you smell gas, if the hose is cracked, or if a melted patch of cloth has reached a valve or a hose, stop cooking and have someone competent check the gas path. A fabric cover does not itself need a gas engineer. The appliance does, when the leak is in the hose, the regulator or the valve. The Gas Appliances (Enforcement) and Miscellaneous Amendments Regulations 2018 deal with gas appliances, and a barbecue cover is not that appliance. A cracked hose is replaced, not taped under a cover and forgotten. Unsafe goods, as distinct from a badly fitting cloth, go through the Citizens Advice consumer helpline in England and Wales.

Common questions

Do I measure with the side shelves out?
Measure the grill as you will leave it. If both shelves stay out all winter, length includes them. If you fold one shelf to get the cover on, measure that folded arrangement and then keep using it. Depth still runs from the handles to the back of the hood, and height stops at the closed lid. A burner count on the title does not replace those three figures.
Is a 145 cm cover a 4-burner cover?
It can be, when your tape is near that length with the shelves as you store them. LEUOSO titles a 145 x 61 x 117 cm cover as a 3–4 burner, at £16.99. A compact three-burner with folding shelves can be shorter. Yimomoyi's 117 cm length misses a wide four-burner.
Can the gas bottle stay connected under the cover?
The valve should be shut, and the cylinder should not be stored indoors under the cloth. Camping Gas says to disconnect the gas before covering. The Morsø Forno UK manual says never to store the cylinder indoors. A large cover hiding a gas bottle is a warning about spare cloth, not a feature.
Can I wheel a covered gas BBQ into the garage?
Not with the cylinder still attached. If the barbecue is stored inside, disconnect the cylinder outdoors and leave the cylinder outside, which is the instruction in the Morsø Forno UK manual. The cover can travel with the grill once it is cool. It does not turn the garage into an LPG store.
Does the cover replace a hose check?
No. The cloth keeps weather off a cool, dry grill. It does not inspect the hose, the regulator or the valve. If you smell gas, or if the hose is cracked, have someone competent check it before you cook again. A cracked hose is replaced. BS EN 498 applies to the LPG barbecue, not to the fabric.
