2 burner gas BBQ buying guide: grate before guests

Updated: 23 October 2026

You have a small patio and three shops telling you a two-burner feeds four people, six people, or a family. A 2 burner gas BBQ buying guide has to start with the grate and the two controls, because those guest tables do not agree. On the amazon.co.uk snapshot of 19 October 2026, the seven kept listings run from about £89.99 to about £224.99. The rows sit on the [2 burner gas BBQ comparison](/hub/grills-and-barbecues/2-burner-gas-bbq). We read those listings and did not cook on them. What you are actually buying

A two-burner gas barbecue here means two main burners under one grate. A side hob heats a saucepan. It does not become burner three, and it does not give you a cool zone. The BROILUCK states a 2+1 layout and 8,700 W. The Xpert 200 LS Plus states a side burner at 2.1 kW. The Xpert 100 L is the awkward row: its side-burner count says 2, and the bullets describe folding side tables. Those are shelves. If you need a side hob, buy a row that says so in a sentence. The CosmoGrill tabletops are about 45 cm square, and the silver one weighs 10 kg, so you lift it. The Xpert 100 L and the Xpert 200 are trolleys with two wheels. Roles for each shape sit on the best 2 burner gas BBQ page. Portable on a title is not a weight you have carried.

Grate, heat, and the figures that contradict

Trust a grate you can picture, and refuse an area that cannot exist on that body. The silver CosmoGrill states 1,287 cm² and the black one 1,323 cm². The Xpert 100 L bullets say 45 × 34 cm and about 1,500 cm², while a field says 1,645 cm². Do not average them. The Xpert 200 bullet says 54 × 34 cm and the area field says 710 cm². Use the centimetre grate. The onlyfire bullet says 18 by 14 inches. The field says 252 square metres, which is a patio, not a grate. BROILUCK's 7,000 cm² does not fit a 50 × 105 cm body. The silver CosmoGrill is consistent at 4.4 kW. The black listing prints both 4 kW and 4.4 kW. The Xpert 200 bullets say 8.2 kW and the wattage field says 2,200 W.

Hose, lid, and what the thermometer is not

Read the included-components line before the photo. Calor says some brands leave the hose out, and that patio gas uses a 27 mm clip-on. Both CosmoGrill listings name a propane regulator and hose. The Modern Group line names a regulator and not a hose on its own. BROILUCK does not name a pipe, and UK reviews say you buy it. The Xpert 100 L line says lid. The onlyfire line says lid and thermometer. The Xpert 200 line says lid, rack, and thermometer. A lid thermometer reads air under the hood, not the centre of a burger. BS EN 498 is the type-test specification for outdoor LPG barbecues. It is not a score on these rows.

When two burners are the wrong category

Stay with two burners when the meal fits the grate you trust, in one layer or two rounds. Move on when food must sit away from the lit burner while something else still cooks. A side hob does not provide that space. On a grate around 45 cm wide, one burner off is a narrow strip. London Fire Brigade's April 2024 leaflet puts the barbecue outdoors, not on a balcony, and a caravan in a title does not change that. Price here is about £90 to £225, not a quality ladder. A Weber Spirit two-burner at £499 is a different product. If the missing cool zone is the problem, read 2 burner vs 3 burner gas BBQ.

Common questions

How many people is a two-burner gas BBQ for?
UK guides do not share one number. Which? and Dunelm say about four to six. B&Q puts two or three burners at up to four. Gardeners' World says a family of four for one or two burners. Those are their descriptions, not a count of burgers on the 1,287 cm² CosmoGrill grate. Fit the food to the centimetres you trust.
What grate size should I trust when the listing disagrees?
Use a centimetre or inch grate in the bullets when the field uses impossible units. The onlyfire bullet's 18 by 14 inches is a grate. The field's 252 square metres is not. BROILUCK's 7,000 cm² does not fit a 50 × 105 cm body. Where two areas are merely close, as on the Xpert 100 L, quote both and do not average them.
Is the hose in the box?
Only when the included-components line says so. Both CosmoGrill listings name a propane hose and regulator. The Modern Group line names a propane regulator and does not name a hose. BROILUCK, both Campingaz trolleys, and the onlyfire listing do not include a hose in that line, and BROILUCK's UK reviews say you buy the pipe.
Does a lid thermometer tell me the food is done?
No. It measures air under the lid, and even that reading can be off. One UK review of the silver CosmoGrill calls the gauge inaccurate. Use it to see whether the hood has warmed up. Check the food itself for doneness. The lid is for hood cooking after the burners are already alight, not a probe in the middle of a burger.
Can I use a two-burner on a balcony?
London Fire Brigade's April 2024 leaflet says not to use a barbecue on a balcony, and not to use one indoors, because of carbon monoxide. A folding title that mentions a caravan does not change that. Light it outdoors, on a level spot away from fences and overhangs, or do not light it. Do not carry a hot barbecue inside to finish cooling.
