Water indoor plants while on holiday

Updated: October 2026

You are about to go away, and you want to water indoor plants while on holiday without treating a battery slogan as a full tank. The Products Compared editorial team read twelve amazon.co.uk listings on 15 October 2026 and the public UK notes below. This is not a product ranking and not a lab test. A purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The [watering system for indoor plants comparison](/hub/garden-watering/watering-system-for-indoor-plants) lists the boxes. Count litres against days. Ask a person past a couple of summer weeks.

Days, not a slogan

A 30-day or 60-day line on these pumps is a claim about the cell. beday and ITP-153 say up to 30 days on a charge. The Wi-Fi RAINPOINT says up to 60 days. Forever Speed says 30–50 days. None of those boxes includes a tank. A floating beday intake cut a three-week absence short. The Royal Horticultural Society splits the trip. Past a couple of weeks in summer, the RHS wants a person. If a jug test moves about a litre a day, a 10 litre bucket is about ten days, and only if the intake stays submerged. Finish that test on the how to set up page before you lock the door.

What a globe can cover

A globe or a small bag is a few hundred millilitres, not a fortnight you have not timed. Pipihome lists about 2 weeks from 500 ml, and UK reviews include globes that emptied in hours. KAYSENSUK’s bullets talk about stuffing the outlet, and many were empty in an hour or two. Coopers of Stortford calls its own glass globes handy for 2–3 days. That sheet is not a measurement of these ASINs. One UK buyer left two AUAUY stakes in a peace lily for two weeks and found a flopped plant and a full bowl. Aflybltol is a 6.5 litre bag, 4.6 from 12 reviews, and the hooks felt light for about 6.5 kg. If the globe cannot show you two quiet days over a saucer, ask someone.

The hosepipe ban stops at the hose

A temporary use ban is local. Ofwat says a watering can or a bucket still waters plants when a hosepipe is restricted, and that you read the company on your bill. Thames Water’s page, updated 12 October 2026, still described a ban and still allowed a can, a butt and reused household water. That is one company’s page, not a nationwide rule. These indoor pumps drink from the container you filled. Filling that bucket from the kitchen tap matches Ofwat’s picture, as long as your own notice still says so. You still do not connect the pump to the rising main. The Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 expect notice and backflow protection for a garden watering system that is not hand-operated. An anti-siphon valve in a holiday kit is not that paperwork.

Leave the tap timer in the shed

The job on this page is the bucket, the globe you have already timed, or a person. A timer on the outside tap is a hosepipe fitting. If a cell is hot or swollen, do not travel with it on charge. If you cannot weigh the water, the answer is the neighbour.

Common questions

How long will a pump last while I am away?
As long as the water you measured, not as long as the battery slogan. If your jug test uses about a litre a day, a 10 litre bucket is about ten days, and only if the intake stays under the water and the joints hold. beday’s floating intake cut a three-week absence to a few days. Tipkook emptied a programmed container overnight. The Royal Horticultural Society still wants a person past a couple of summer weeks.
Is 30 days the battery or the tank?
The battery, on these listings. beday and ITP-153 say up to 30 days on a charge. Tipkook says over 30 days in an energy-saving mode. The Wi-Fi kit says up to 60 days. Forever Speed says 30–50 days. No pump box includes a tank. UK reviews on beday describe cells lasting a few days to about a week when the pump ran often.
Are watering globes enough for a fortnight?
Not on the volumes in this set, unless you have timed that pot and someone can still top up. Pipihome’s 500 ml “about 2 weeks” sits beside globes that emptied in hours. Yirong has 3 reviews. Bubblegum Stuff’s 350 ml bag often lasts a day or two in a file of 1,590 reviews. Coopers’ own glass globes are described as handy for 2–3 days, and that is not a test of these ASINs.
When should I ask a person to water the plants?
Past a couple of weeks in summer, which is the Royal Horticultural Society’s line, and sooner if you have not run a jug test. Ask sooner for a succulent on a shared timer, for a peace lily on an AUAUY stake, and for any pump whose first night emptied the bucket. A neighbour with a note beats a 60-day cell claim and an empty container.
Can I fill a bucket during a hosepipe ban?
Ofwat says a can or a bucket replaces the hosepipe, and a ban is local. Thames Water’s page, checked in the form updated on 12 October 2026, still allowed a can, a butt and reused household water while a ban was described. Read the company on your bill before you travel. Do not assume another supplier’s wording, and do not attach the pump to the mains.
Should succulents go on a shared timer?
No. A shared pump gives every open dripper the same run, and a succulent next to a fern gets the fern’s drink. Capillary matting, which the RHS mentions for a longer absence, keeps compost moist and is the wrong tool for a plant that must dry. Take those pots off the circuit, or leave a note that tells your neighbour to skip them.
