25mm garden hose buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You searched for a 1 inch hose because a pump, a pond filter, or a water butt needs more than a watering can, and a 25mm garden hose buying guide has to split three objects before a blue coil looks cheap. A 25 mm figure on a hose is the internal bore. A 1 inch figure on a UK outside tap is a thread, and those circles are not the same. We read seven amazon.co.uk listings, from £9.95 to £19.99, and we did not run a lab test. Once the bore and the route are settled, the [1 inch garden hose comparison](/hub/garden-watering/garden-hose-1-inch) ranks those listings.

What 1 inch means on a hose

A 25 mm garden hose is sold on the hole the water travels through. FITT's UK size guide groups 12.5 mm, 19 mm, and 25 mm, and it places 25 mm with higher flow and pumps rather than a border spray. That still matches what most house taps are built for. The tap thread is a different measurement. Hozelock's tap guide puts the common outdoor thread at 3/4 inch BSP, about 26.44 mm across the threads, and 1 inch BSP at about 33.25 mm. Hold a ruler across the threads, not along the spout. A reading near 26 mm is still usually 3/4 inch BSP. Keep 25 mm for an outlet that is already that size. The best 1 inch garden hose page only helps after that choice.

Which construction matches the route

The wall decides whether the water keeps moving. Layflat here is blue PVC that stores flat and opens when the pump pushes. Use one on a level, straight run. A step or a tight bend is where those reviews say the flow stops. HOSES UK's corrugated pond hose is sold to bend and is hose only. AP Automotive's clear braided tube keeps a round wall. Stop if the pump has to suck. None of the seven is a spiral suction hose. Flood Protection Solutions mark their own 25 mm layflat as delivery only. If a flat coil and a round tube are both still open, read layflat hose vs reinforced hose before you treat them as one product.

Pressure, clips, and length on the listing

Working pressure is what the hose is meant to see in use. Burst pressure is a failure figure. The 10 m KATSU at £12.99 prints 4 bars in the maximum-pressure field and does not add a separate burst line. Clips are a box claim. KATSU and Meksular bullets name two clips. Equip247uk puts one stainless steel clip in the title. HOSES UK says hose only. Seating a jubilee clip is the job of how to connect a 25 mm hose, after you have chosen the hose. Length in the title is part of the description, so measure the coil.

Rules that change the purchase

A 25 mm hose on a pump that is emptying stored water is not the same legal object as a hose left on the mains. Schedule 2 of the Water Supply (Water Fittings) Regulations 1999 is the backflow frame. If one end can sit in a pond, a pool, or a butt while the other end is on a mains tap, dirty water can be drawn back. Do not leave the open end submerged on a live tap. A hosepipe ban is a company rule about mains water, not a property of the bore. Thames Water's page, updated on 12 October 2026, restricts a mains hosepipe for pools and hot tubs and still describes water butts as allowed. Ofwat cites a typical £1,000 penalty. Check the company on your bill.

Common questions

Is a 1 inch garden hose the same as a 1 inch tap?
No. The hose figure in this set is a 25 mm internal bore. A 1 inch BSP tap thread is about 33.25 mm across, and the usual UK outside tap is 3/4 inch BSP at about 26.44 mm, on Hozelock's measurement guide. A ruler reading near 26 mm is still a 3/4 inch thread. It will not take a 25 mm hose tail. A smaller garden hose with the matching connector is the ordinary fit for that tap.
What is the difference between working pressure and burst pressure?
Working pressure is the figure for normal use. Burst pressure is the figure at which the hose is expected to fail. On the 10 m Equip247uk listing the bullets say 4 bar working and 8 bar burst, and the maximum-pressure field shows 8 bars. Read the words beside the number. The 5 m Equip247uk listing prints no pressure field, so do not borrow the 10 m split for that shorter coil.
Why do two KATSU lengths show the same review count?
The 10 m and 20 m KATSU listings both show 4.3 from 3,833 reviews, and the review texts match. That is one shared file, not two independent samples. The 20 m listing is £19.99 against £12.99 for the 10 m title. Buy the longer title only if you will measure a 20 m coil. The shared count is not a reason to pay the difference.
What if the coil is shorter than the title?
Section 11 of the Consumer Rights Act 2015 requires goods to match their description, and the length in the title is part of that description. Measure before you fit a clip. One review in the shared KATSU file measured 18.46 m and did not say which length arrived. Two reviews on the AP Automotive 5 m tube say it arrived short. A short coil is a description problem.
Can I drink from a hose whose title says food?
No. The AP Automotive title includes food, and the saved listing does not show a WRAS approval or a drinking-water standard. Hozelock's use note says PVC garden hose is not for filling a fish pond or a pet bowl. Use these hoses for discharge and for pipe runs you are not drinking from. A food word in a title is not an approval.
