Pressure sprayer buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have weeds on a path or a bed to feed, and the amazon.co.uk titles all say pressure sprayer. This buying guide decides the litres, whether the tank sits on a strap, on your back or in one hand, and when the listing is too muddled to trust. A star line cannot fix a title that says 5 litres while the table says 2. Prices are GBP from the ten saved amazon.co.uk listings dated 19 October 2026, not a live scrape. Peter F. did not lab-test these tanks. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you. The rows sit on the [pressure sprayer comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/pressure-sprayer).

What you are actually buying

A pressure sprayer here is a sealed tank you pump, or in one case charge, so liquid leaves through a nozzle under pressure. It is not a trigger mister you squeeze for every squirt, and it is not a pressure washer. The ten listings fall into four shapes. Most are 5 litre hand pumps with a claimed shoulder strap: Green Haven, G4GADGET, Spear & Jackson, REQUISITE NEEDS, and Armo's ambiguous listing. ANSIO and Amazon Basics are 2 litre bottles. Polar is a 5 litre backpack. Mobiclinic is a 16 litre backpack. SYLSTAR is the only battery unit, 8 litres at 7.4 V USB. That fork is pump sprayer vs battery sprayer. Buy the capacity the title and the table both state, then the carry, then the brand. Do not average conflicting figures into a litre no tank holds.

Litres follow the job

Patio cracks, a greenhouse bench, or a short driveway edge usually fit a 2 litre bottle. You refill more often, and you are not carrying five kilograms of water plus plastic. ANSIO at about £8.95 and Amazon Basics at about £6.47 are the spot-work rows. Named picks are on best pressure sprayer. A typical UK path-and-border session, with no special constraint, defaults here to a 5 litre shoulder-strap pump in the roughly £10 to £17 band. That band is a rule of thumb for these saved shelves, not a measured optimum. Spear & Jackson's brand sheet prints a full weight of 5.40 kg. The amazon.co.uk file for the same ASIN prints an empty item weight of 970 g, while the brand sheet says 0.40 kg empty. State both. Do not average them. A long walk, a slope, or both hands free points at a backpack. Polar is the 5 litre backpack. Mobiclinic is 16 litres in one fill, and the strap complaints matter more than the litre claim.

Carry and who pumps

A shoulder strap lets the 5 litre tank hang while you aim the lance. It still loads one side. A backpack spreads the weight on uneven ground. Polar's reviews include air leaks and early failures. A 2 litre bottle stays in one hand. ANSIO's bullets do not quote a lance length, and Amazon Basics does not itemise a strap. Nine of the ten units are hand powered: raise pressure, spray until it falls, then pump again. REQUISITE NEEDS reviews say pressure can drop after about 30 to 40 seconds. The SYLSTAR removes that rhythm if the battery holds a charge. It also adds a charger, filter discipline, and charge-failure reviews. Moving from about £14 to about £38 is only worth it if pumping is the problem.

When the listing disagrees with itself

Refuse a listing whose own fields fight before you trust the star line. Armo's title says 5 litre while the table prints 2 litre at about £5.95. Amazon Basics prints a 2 litre title beside dimension lines around 49 cm. Review texts that say 5 litres are not a second specification. Mobiclinic prints three empty weights: 2 kg in the title, 2.6 kg in a bullet, and 3.23 kg in the table. SYLSTAR's wand lengths clash, so reach is not settled. Listing chemical lines are filters, not permissions. ANSIO says water-based solutions, pH 5 to 9. Several 5 litre bullets name non-viscous water-based pesticides, herbicides and fertilisers. That does not authorise bleach, solvent, or a professional concentrate. HSE's garden pages cover amateur versus professional use. Weedkiller rules stay on pressure sprayer for weed killer. A release valve is the controlled way to let the tank down. Spear & Jackson, REQUISITE NEEDS, Amazon Basics, ANSIO and Polar claim one. G4GADGET lists a pressure regulator. SYLSTAR, Green Haven, Armo and Mobiclinic do not give a clear release claim. Complaint language on Mobiclinic says pressure could not be dumped without spraying.

Common questions

Is 5 litres the right default?
For a normal path-and-border job when you have not named a special constraint, yes. In this set that means a 5 litre strap pump, not a 16 litre backpack and not a 2 litre bottle. It is a shopping default for these ten rows, not a lab result about coverage in square metres.
When is 2 litres enough?
When the work is spot treatment: patio cracks, a short edge, or plant care where refilling is cheaper than carrying a heavy tank. ANSIO and Amazon Basics are the 2 litre titles here. ANSIO takes the best-value role on the picks page.
Strap, backpack, or a bottle in the hand?
Strap for a typical 5 litre walk, backpack when both hands and balance matter, bottle when the job is small and you accept no lance. Polar and Mobiclinic are the backpack rows. Read strap reviews on the 16 litre before you buy litres alone.
What if the title and the technical table disagree?
Do not average them. Prefer the more cautious figure or walk away. Armo's 5 litre title versus a 2 litre table is the clearest warning in this set.
Does the sprayer need a certificate?
An amateur garden product does not require sprayer training. A professional plant-protection product does require appropriate training, and the use must be on that product's label. The tank itself is not the licence.
What should the listing say about weedkiller?
Look for water-based or soluble herbicide language if you plan that use, then still read the weedkiller label. A sprayer bullet is not an authorisation. Keep that tank off feed afterwards.
Why does a release valve matter before you buy?
It is the controlled way to depressurise after spraying. Listings that omit it leave you spraying to empty or fighting a sealed tank. Check the claim before you order, especially on larger backpacks.
