Cat scarer buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are looking at a row of green stakes that all say humane and motion-activated, and you want to know which lines on the amazon.co.uk page are worth trusting. A cat scarer buying guide for this set comes down to five checks: the cone one sensor can cover, the size of the UK review sample, whether the power suits the light in that corner, a weather claim that agrees with itself, and whether people or your own animals can hear the burst. The [cat scare comparison](/hub/garden-supplies/cat-scare) holds the full table of eleven listings. Peter F. compared these amazon.co.uk listings on 21 October 2026. What one sensor actually covers

One of these units covers a cone, not a whole garden. In this folder the printed arcs cluster around 110 to 120 degrees, and the printed distances cluster around 8 to 12 m, or 10 m on both PestBye listings. A manufacturer page for a PestBye V2 talks about 12 m and 110 degrees. Do not paste those figures onto B004SGC75S or B00FXSU2WK. Kilamef's bullets mention 15 m, an adjustable 5–15 m, 8–12 m and 450 m² inside one unreviewed listing. If you want the aiming steps once a stake is in your hand, use where to put a cat scarer.

Why the review count beats the star average

Sort this table by stars and the top rows are YRIGHT at 5.0 from 3 reviews and RUTIDA at 5.0 from 5. A live check of the single on 21 October 2026 showed 3.8 from 12,891, one review on from the snapshot. Amross, at 3.8 from 136 reviews, is the only solar unit here with a three-figure count. HonexCesng is 4.6 from 7. Joomouney is 3.0 from 6. Nitoer is 4.4 from 26.

Power, then the weather line you can quote

The PestBye single at £18.98 and the pair at £29.98 are battery stakes: four AA cells each, not in the box. They are the shade option in this set. RUTIDA, YRIGHT and, in the bullets, XWGKLN are solar with no USB lead written in. Amross, HonexCesng, CHAMSUREUK, Joomouney and Nitoer describe solar plus USB or USB-C. XWGKLN and Kilamef say solar in the bullets while the Amazon power field says battery. The detail of shade and corrosion sits on solar or battery.

Sound, dogs, and the claims to leave

Humane on a bullet is not the same as silent, and it is not a promise about your dog or your own cat. Joomouney's own bullet says people with better hearing may hear the ultrasound. XWGKLN has a review that calls a 30-second burst loud. Kilamef's 100 percent stop, the 60-day zero-light runtime and the 10-year warranty are bullets, not reviews. YRIGHT's 26 feet in a bullet and 26 inches in the range field cannot both be your planning number. The RSPCA's line is that a deterrent must not cause pain, suffering, injury or distress, and that cats are free to roam.

Common questions

What should I check before I buy a cat scarer?
Check the cone, the review count, the power source, one weather line that matches itself, and whether people can hear the burst. In this set a usable cone is about 110 degrees and roughly 8–12 m where those figures are printed, or 10 m with no angle on PestBye. Put the 22,905-review pair and the 12,890-review single above any 5.0 from three or five reviews. Then match battery or solar to the shade, and refuse a listing that prints two IP codes. The main comparison table is where each ASIN's printed line sits side by side.
Is a 5.0 from three reviews better than 3.8 from thousands?
No. YRIGHT is 5.0 from 3 reviews and RUTIDA is 5.0 from 5, and every text in those files is favourable. The PestBye single is 3.8 from 12,890 reviews at £18.98, and the pair is 3.7 from 22,905 at £29.98. The lower average includes cats that ignore the sound, flat batteries and noise in the house. That is the record you can plan around. A perfect score with no failure written down is a small sample, not a stronger product.
Does IP65 mean more than IP44 if the listing disagrees with itself?
IP65 is the tighter spray rating when a single code is printed and the rest of the page does not fight it. Amross is the clear IP65 row here, with 136 reviews. CHAMSUREUK's title says IP65 and a bullet says IP44, so you cannot claim either code for that unit. Nitoer is the same kind of clash: IPX4 in the bullet, splash-proof in a review of the paper, IP65 in another review. PestBye's weatherproof line has no code at all. Quote a code only when the listing has one.
How big a cone does one sensor cover?
Where the listing prints both numbers, expect something like 110 degrees and 8–10 m. That is a wedge in front of the stake, not a circle around the garden. PestBye prints 10 m and no arc. An L-shaped lawn, or a second fence gap, needs a second unit, which is the job of the pair. Kilamef's 450 m² line has no reviews behind it. Aim and height are on the placement page, because a cone pointed at the back door covers the wrong ground.
Will my dog or my own cat hear it?
They may. Nitoer prints 20 Hz–18 kHz and a 3 m gap from occupied rooms. PestBye buyers report a squeak or click, and children notice it. Joomouney warns that better hearing may pick the sound up. Dogs and the cat who already lives with you can hear bands that a bullet calls almost inaudible. If your own cat toileting on the lawn is the problem, a scarer aimed at that lawn is aimed at that cat as well.
Is there a British Standard for these, and can a listing promise 100 percent?
No British Standard is printed on these listings. A CE or FCC line on Kilamef is not a UK approval of the 100 percent or 450 m² claims, and that file has no reviews. CatWatch, a different device, showed a moderate and inconsistent effect in a published trial, and that percentage does not transfer to PestBye or to a solar generic. Give a stake one to four weeks. A quiet first night is not the test, and a promise of every cat leaving is not a result this set can support.
