Best floating pond planter

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have seven amazon.co.uk listings left after floor baskets and aquarium pots were taken out, and the highest star number is not the one with the clearest job. This page names the best floating pond planter in that set for a bare-root corral, and the one for a small soil island, using shelf prices and review counts from 20 October 2026. The full table, including scores, is on the [floating pond planter comparison](/hub/garden-ponds/floating-pond-planter). Peter F. used those listing lines and the UK review bodies in the saved listings. We did not run a lab float. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

Bare-root rings

The zhongko ring, B0FC6B7N9T, is the bare-root pick: £12.98, 60 g, 45 cm on the colour field. Sixteen UK texts say it keeps hornwort and other floaters off goldfish, carp and koi, and that it adds shade. The same reviews say it sinks with soil, stones or a heavy plant. A seller bullet mentions lilies. The reviews do not support a compost-filled lily. It is best value for the corral, and that value goes if you treat it as a soil pot. Gonggi, B0FCS7C3GY, at £13.99 and 96 g, has no printed diameter. One UK review describes frayed cotton on a koi fin, so this ring loses when the pond holds large carp. Details are on floating planter for a koi pond. BOFRHME at £9.99 has no Customer Reviews line. Skip it until buyers describe the same bare-root use. Species rules are on the floating pond planter buying guide.

The soil island with the largest sample

Flp250, B07P13RS8F, is the soil island with the largest sample: £15.95, 454 g, seller depth 3 inches. The seller says it traps soil and roots and can be linked, tethered or left to float. Four UK reviews say it does the job once planted. One fitted about two plants from 9 cm pots, with compost near the rim. Another said a toad sat on it and mud entered the pond. Soil is not in the box. It is the top pick because the sample is the widest, with the limit that the inner well is small.

Two Pond H2O packs at the same price

Flp101, B0BLZR4SL8, is £25.95 for a 25 cm basket and a 35 cm basket. The seller puts the wells at about 5 to 6 inches and 7 to 8 inches and lists drainage as No. Two UK reviews say the pair works, that the larger basket was too big for that plant, and that square edges can catch. A 4.8 from 13 is a thinner description than 4.2 from 79. Buy it for two different wells, not because 4.8 looks like a tested load. Flp105, B0BMM8QCY5, is the same £25.95 for two 26 cm squares, 3.9 from 6, with no review bodies in the file. Size rows disagree, and drainage is Yes here and No on Flp101. Pick Flp101 if you need the 35 cm basket. Pick Flp105 only for two equal wells, and read the live reviews yourself.

What the review counts cannot say

Stars do not state buoyancy. The clearest bare-root texts also say the ring sinks with soil. A 4.8 from 13 does not outweigh 4.2 from 79 for one small island. Six reviews with no text on Flp105 cannot be quoted. BOFRHME at £9.99 and the generic bag at £8.34 have no star line. The generic claims a 25 cm float and also prints 20 × 12 × 3 cm and floor standing. The Superfish protector at about £95, with a stated 10 kg buoyancy, stays outside the table. None of those pages changes the order of these seven ASINs.

Common questions

Which listing is for bare-root plants only?
The zhongko ring at £12.98. UK reviews say it keeps floating plants off goldfish, carp and koi, and that it sinks if you add soil or a heavy plant. One reviewer says it is only for bare-root plants. Gonggi is also a mesh ring, at £13.99, with a taut net and one frayed-thread report, so it is the weaker corral. The Pond H2O rows are the ones whose seller says they trap soil.
Is 4.8 from 13 reviews a better buy than 4.2 from 79?
Not if you want the soil island with the most buyer description. Flp101’s 4.8 from 13 is two UK texts: the pair works, the 35 cm basket can be too big, and square corners catch. Flp250’s 4.2 from 79 includes a UK note that about two plants from 9 cm pots fitted, and that a toad let mud in. Buy the 4.8 pack for the size split, not because the stars outrank the single basket.
Why do both Pond H2O two-packs cost £25.95?
On these listings, Flp101 (25 cm and 35 cm) and Flp105 (two 26 cm baskets) are both £25.95. The price tie does not make the packs the same shape. Flp101 is the one with a larger well of about 7 to 8 inches inside the 35 cm basket. Flp105 is two matching wells, 3.9 from 6, with no review text in the file. Flp250 at £15.95 is one basket.
Should I skip listings with no review line?
Yes, if another listing already shows the job you need. BOFRHME at £9.99 and the generic bag at £8.34 have no Customer Reviews line. The generic also disagrees with itself on size and on whether it is floating or floor standing. A low price does not repair a missing review. Come back only if the live amazon.co.uk page later shows reviews on that same ASIN.
Which listing mentions a koi injury?
Gonggi, B0FCS7C3GY, at £13.99. One UK review says cotton frayed within months and wrapped a large koi’s fin, described as a severe cut. The zhongko reviews mention fish eating plants, not a cut. Pond H2O bullets mention keeping fish off roots. Those files do not contain an injury text. One Gonggi report is not a rate for every ring.
