How to look after a round garden table

Updated: 23 October 2026

The box is in the hall, the patio slabs are not level, and you would like to eat outside this evening. How to look after a round garden table starts before the first plate: you set the table empty, on the exact paving you will use, with any lock engaged, and you stop if the top is cracked. This is the sequence after you have already bought. The eight tables, with prices in GBP, are on the [round garden table comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/round-garden-table). Prices below are amazon.co.uk figures from 21 October 2026. A qualifying purchase can earn us a commission at no extra cost to you.

The first ten minutes after delivery

Rock the table empty on the slabs you will use, not on the kitchen floor. On the Harbour, lock the legs before use. It weighs 13.8 kg. On the YITAHOME the bullets mention a security lock, a stated 150 kg and 12.8 kg, while the file also says both ready to use and assembly required. On the Byliable, lock the clips. The bullets say no tools. If the empty table rocks, move it one slab. When the rock follows the table, look at a foot or the frame. When it stays on the slab, the paving is the problem. Do not strip a plastic insert, and do not treat a cracked weld as a spanner job. The PHI VILLA needs no assembly. One Shatchi review says the lower joint does not sit flush. Height, if you have not bought yet, is in the round garden table buying guide.

Parasol and glass, before anyone leans on them

None of the eight states a 38–50 mm parasol hole. The ZEECER's 0.75 inch attribute is a flower cut-out, not a pole. Put the base beside the table. Do not drill glass or a plastic fold. FIRA treats a hole as something cut in manufacture. The PHI VILLA bullets call the top tempered and not fragile. UK reviews still count scratches, and one reports rust on the rim after rain. Stop if the top is chipped or cracked, and clean a scratch with soapy water, not a scourer. Broken glass is a glazier's job. No load is printed for that top. One UK review says dirt ingrains in the YITAHOME's HDPE.

Winter: cover dry, or store the fold

Cover a table only when it is already dry. Water has to run off, cushions should not live in the bag, and condensation is often mistaken for a leak. A cover over a wet PHI VILLA rim traps the moisture one UK review describes. The Royal Horticultural Society says teak can stay out, with a yearly wash, and that oil is a colour choice. That is not a care plan for HDPE or glass. None of the eight is a teak dining table. Winter for the Harbour or the YITAHOME is the fold: lock it and store it. Cushions come inside. Storing the fold is on folding or fixed garden table.

When it is a return, not a weekend project

A bent leg, cracked glass or a joint that will not close is a fault. The Consumer Rights Act 2015 gives 30 days to reject faulty goods. Photograph the damage before you force the joint. Do not drill, cut a hole or glue glass. One Harbour review describes a courier who would not collect a large carton. If the empty table still rocks on a flat slab with the lock on, stop.

Common questions

The table rocks. Is it the patio or the frame?
Move the empty table. If the rock travels with it, look at a foot, a lock, or a joint that does not sit flush, as on one Shatchi review. If the rock stays on the same slab, shim that slab or pick another slab. Do not over-tighten plastic fittings. A cracked weld is not a Sunday spanner job.
When do I lock a folding table?
Before anyone sits, leans, or trusts a printed load. On the Harbour that is the listing's own line. On the YITAHOME it is the security lock and buckles. On the Byliable it is the clips after the poles are in. Folding it for storage is the reverse, and some Harbour reviewers find that collapse hard if they are not strong. Locking is not optional on the first evening and optional later.
Can I leave a steel or glass table out under a cover?
Only if the top is dry first, the cover sheds water, and you air it. A cover over a wet PHI VILLA rim is how the rust review starts. The Grand patio already has a UK review about rain marks. Cushions come indoors. A cover is not a promise against mould, and it is not a substitute for storing a 13 kg plastic fold if that was why you bought a fold.
The glass is scratched or cracked. Do I keep using it?
A light scratch is a cleaning issue: soapy water, no scourer. A chip or a crack means you stop. Toughened glass fails from the edge, and glue does not put the strength back. Clear the fragments without a casual handful, which is the Glass and Glazing Federation's point, and replace the top or retire the table. The PHI VILLA has no stated load, so a cracked top is not something you test with a heavier pot.
A leg arrived damaged. What right do I have?
If the goods are faulty, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 includes a 30-day short-term right to reject. Photograph the box and the leg before you force the joint. A change-of-mind return is the shop's policy, and a large Harbour carton has already been left behind by a courier in one UK review. A shattered glass top is a glazier's job, not a repair you invent so the return window can close.
