Round garden table buying guide

Updated: 23 October 2026

You are on the patio with a tape measure, and the amazon.co.uk grid still treats every circle as the same purchase. A 46 cm glass top, a 122 cm folding dinner table and a 110 cm bar table can share a search and still fail a different job. This round garden table buying guide starts with height, then diameter, then the lines a listing has to print before the price is worth comparing. The eight tables are the worked examples on the [round garden table comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/round-garden-table). Prices and stars are the amazon.co.uk figures read on 21 October 2026. Start with height, not the star line

Ordinary dining chairs meet a top at about 73–74 cm. Here that is the Harbour Housewares trestle at 73.5 cm and the YITAHOME fold at 74 cm. Side tables sit lower: PHI VILLA 48 cm, Grand patio 40 cm, Shatchi 54 cm, ZEECER about 43 cm. The Byliable is 110 cm, standing height for a drink. A 4.6-star line on the 46 cm PHI VILLA does not make it a meal table. The Grand patio and the Byliable are both 70 cm across, and only the height tells them apart. Measure your chair against the listed height before you read the review count.

Diameter, and why two UK guides do not match at six seats

Lafuma's UK size guide is a rule of thumb, not a British Standard: about 60 cm for two, 90 cm for four and 120 cm for six, with chair space outside the top. This set has no fixed 90 cm dining top. The Harbour at 120 cm and the YITAHOME at 122 cm are the only tops on that six-person figure. Furniture in Fashion puts a comfortable six nearer 140–150 cm. Jati sells a 1.2 m teak round as four chairs. Hold both readings. Lazy Susan allows about 75 cm to sit down. On a tight slab, the same maths is the round garden table for a small patio.

Top, stated load, and a real parasol hole

The material tells you how the table fails. Tempered glass on the PHI VILLA still scratches, and a UK review reports rust on the rim after rain. Tempered on a bullet is not a BS EN 12150-1 certificate. Rain can mark the Grand patio's steel. One UK camping review says dirt ingrains in the YITAHOME's HDPE top. Printed loads run from 5 kg on the Simmer Stone to 23 kg on the Grand patio and the Shatchi, 100 kg on the Byliable and 150 kg on the YITAHOME. Those kilogram lines are listing claims. The Harbour, the PHI VILLA and the ZEECER print no maximum. None of the eight states a 38–50 mm parasol hole. The ZEECER's 0.75 inch attribute is not a parasol pole. BS EN 581-3:2026 does not test ageing, and none of these listings says it was tested to it.

What you can check on the listing in one pass

Read five lines before you sort by price: height, diameter, whether it folds and whether a lock is mentioned, the stated load or a blank, and any hole in millimetres. The Byliable's 4.7 from 286 ratings sits on three short UK texts. If two dimension lines disagree, keep both. The Harbour prints 62 × 120 × 73.5 cm and also 10 × 119 × 59 cm. The Simmer Stone title says 17.7 inches while an attribute says 50 × 38 × 38 cm. A seating attribute is a catalogue field, not a floor plan. When those lines match, attach a name on the best round garden table.

Common questions

How wide a round table do I need for four, and for six?
Lafuma's UK guide puts four people at about 90 cm and six at about 120 cm. That is a rule of thumb, with chair space outside the top. Other UK shops treat 120 cm as four, or as four to six, and put a comfortable six nearer 140–150 cm. This comparison has no fixed 90 cm dining table. The Harbour at 120 cm and the YITAHOME at 122 cm are the only tops near that six-person figure.
What height suits ordinary chairs?
About 73–74 cm. In this set that is the Harbour at 73.5 cm and the YITAHOME at 74 cm. Side tables here run from 40 cm to 54 cm, and the Byliable is 110 cm. A wide top at 40 cm, such as the Grand patio, still will not meet a dining chair. Match the chair you own before you match the diameter.
Does every round garden table have a parasol hole?
No. None of the eight kept listings states a 38–50 mm hole. A Foxden dining table outside this set does name a 40 mm hole for a 38 mm pole, which shows what a clear line looks like. The ZEECER's 0.75 inch attribute is not that hole. Even a real hole needs a weighted base, and the base often needs more floor than the table.
Is tempered glass a safety certificate?
No. Tempered on a bullet is not a BS EN 12150-1 certificate, and it is not a pass to BS EN 581-3. Toughened glass still breaks, usually from the edge, and a scratch is already in the PHI VILLA's UK reviews. Stop using a chipped or cracked top. A glazier is the person who replaces it. Glue does not restore the strength.
What load should I expect to see printed?
Whatever the listing prints, read as a claim. Here that is 5 kg on the Simmer Stone, 23 kg on the Grand patio and the Shatchi, 100 kg on the Byliable, and 150 kg on the YITAHOME. Three listings print nothing: Harbour, PHI VILLA and ZEECER. A blank is not a promise that the top will take a full dinner service. It is a gap.
