Hanging chair stand for a small room

Updated: 22 October 2026

The chair in the photograph looks like an armchair. The frame that holds it is tall steel with a base, and it needs more floor once it can move. A hanging chair stand for a small room fails when you measure the seat and order from that width. Mark the base, add the arc, and treat a missing height as unknown. The dimension rows used here are the ones on the [hanging chair frame comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/hanging-chair-frame). Public UK notes on ceiling height and clearance were used beside them. Your room was not measured. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

The sizes printed on these frames

Only some rows print a height. The black and white SELFLA foldables both show 143 × 113 × 180.1 cm, and the bullet swaps the first two figures, so check which side is the depth. The 180.1 cm is what meets the ceiling. The YEEFY C-stand prints 103 × 100 × 195 cm, a smaller plan and a taller top. The SELFLA U-frame's dimension row prints 162.6 × 88.9 cm. The bullet says 64 in high × 35 in wide, and it calls the long side the height. Keep that as the seller's words. Do not lay a fresh conversion beside the centimetre row as if Amazon had printed two confirmed measurements. Three listings give you no height. The WUDLEP set prints 103 × 85 cm. The GOUTIME C-stand prints 2.05 × 1.32 m. The Trekassy set prints 2.01 × 2.01 m. A blank height is an unknown. It is not a hint that the frame will fit. A shop stand outside this table shows why a so-called standard can still fail. FOXDEN lists a C-stand at 110 × 110 × 215 cm. A 215 cm frame is a different problem from the 180 cm SELFLA. Simply Hammocks lists the Luna at 200–240 cm high, on a 145 × 120 cm footprint. A taller stand can be the one that hits the ceiling while a shorter frame in this set still has a gap.

Ceiling height, including 2.3 m

The nationally described space standard on GOV.UK sets a minimum floor-to-ceiling height of 2.3 m for at least 75% of the gross internal area. That is a planning standard for new homes in England where it is applied. It is not a rule that every existing UK room is 2.3 m, and it is not a product test. Up to a quarter of the floor area in a home assessed that way may sit below 2.3 m, which is how loft slopes pass. A Victorian flat or a loft room can be lower across the whole spot you want. That 2.3 m figure is not your ceiling until you measure it. Measure from the floor to the lowest plaster, beam, or light over the spot. An 180.1 cm SELFLA under a measured 2.3 m ceiling leaves about half a metre, before a pendant. A 195 cm YEEFY under the same ceiling leaves about 35 cm. A Luna listed up to 240 cm does not pass under 2.3 m at the top of its range. A 215 cm FOXDEN frame leaves about 15 cm, a different fit from the SELFLA. If height is blank, as on the GOUTIME, Trekassy, and WUDLEP rows, you cannot run this sum. Ask the seller, or skip the row. How to read a load line is in the hanging chair stand buying guide.

Add the swing, then tape the floor

The base is the steel on the floor. The space you need is larger, because you have to get in, and because a hang moves. Furniture in Fashion adds 40–50 cm of arc in its own table. That is their figure, not a measurement of these seven ASINs. Egg Chairs UK asks for about a metre clear all round, which is stricter. Use the metre if children or a hard swing are likely, and use 40–50 cm only as a labelled rule of thumb for a still sit. Tape the floor before you order. Take the black SELFLA as the example. The dimension row is 143 × 113 cm. Add 50 cm on every side and the taped rectangle is about 243 × 213 cm. Add a metre on every side and you are closer to 3.4 × 3.1 m, which is most of a small bedroom. The YEEFY plan of 103 × 100 cm plus 50 cm all round is about 203 × 200 cm. The Trekassy plan is already 2.01 × 2.01 m before any arc. A doorway is not spare swing. If the taped patch crosses the door, people and the chair will meet.

Narrow room, large plan, or no room

A C-stand is sometimes sold for a narrow room because four legs do not box the seat. The YEEFY plan is 103 × 100 cm, compact beside the Trekassy square, though it is 195 cm high. The GOUTIME plan is 2.05 × 1.32 m, so one side is already wide, and the height is missing. A C-stand can suit a bay where rear feet would hit a skirting. It still needs arc in front of the seat. The Trekassy set is not a small-room product. The plan is 2.01 m square, height is not printed, and a review says it needs a lot of indoor space. It is a kids' chair and pod for a room that can spare that square. The WUDLEP plan of 103 × 85 cm is the smallest printed base here. It includes the chair, with no stated load and no height. A small plan with an unknown height can still fail on the ceiling. If the tape will not fit, stop ordering a taller stand from outside this set. The Luna at 200–240 cm and the FOXDEN example at 215 cm can fail a low ceiling even when the 180.1 cm SELFLA would pass. A wall-mounted stand is a different footprint and a different fixing. When the marked patch crosses the door, or the only gap is under a slope you have measured below the frame, leave this room for a joist you can confirm, or for no chair there.

Common questions

Will an 180 cm stand fit under a normal ceiling?
It fits under a ceiling you have measured taller than the frame, with room for the hook and any light. The SELFLA height here is 180.1 cm. A new home in England, where the space standard applies, is often described around 2.3 m for most of the floor, which would leave about half a metre over that frame. Your flat is not that figure until a tape says so. A beam, a slope, or a pendant can remove the gap. Measure the spot, not the hallway.
What floor area do I mark, not just the base?
Mark the steel, then add clearance on every side. Furniture in Fashion uses 40–50 cm of arc in its own table. Egg Chairs UK uses about a metre, which is stricter. On the SELFLA's 143 × 113 cm row, 50 cm all round becomes roughly 243 × 213 cm. A metre all round needs most of a small bedroom. The base alone is why the chair looks smaller than the space it uses. Tape it before you pay.
Is a C-stand better in a narrow room?
It can be, when the printed plan is actually small and the height is known. The YEEFY C-stand is 103 × 100 × 195 cm, so the floor patch is smaller than the Trekassy square and the top is taller than the SELFLA. The GOUTIME C-stand is 2.05 × 1.32 m with no height, so one side is already wide and the ceiling is unchecked. A C-stand still needs arc in front. The shape does not delete the tape.
The Trekassy is 2.01 m square. Is that a small-room product?
A 2.01 × 2.01 m plan is the footprint before you add swing room, and the height is not on the row. A review says it needs a lot of indoor space. It is a kids' pod and hammock for a room that can spare about two metres each way, and more if you keep a clearance. A box room with a bed in it rarely has that square left. Treat it as a large indoor set, and leave it off a small-room shortlist.
What if the listing has no height?
Treat the fit as unknown. The GOUTIME, Trekassy, and WUDLEP rows print a plan and leave height blank. You cannot hold a blank against a 2.3 m ceiling or a loft slope. Ask the seller for the assembled height, including the hook, or choose a row that prints it, such as the SELFLA at 180.1 cm or the YEEFY at 195 cm. Assuming it matches another brand is how the frame stays in the box.
Can I put the swing arc across a doorway?
The doorway has to stay a route. If the taped clearance crosses the door, people will hit the chair. Furniture in Fashion's 40–50 cm and Egg Chairs UK's metre are extra floor, not a corner you never walk through. Move the frame to a wall that can take the arc, or accept that this room wants a ceiling fixing in a joist you can confirm. A thinner base from the same list does not remove an arc that lands in the hall.
Does 2.3 m apply to my Victorian flat?
Only if a tape says so. The GOV.UK space standard asks for 2.3 m over at least 75% of the floor area of new homes in England where it is applied. Older flats and loft slopes often sit below it. The number that decides the SELFLA or the YEEFY is the plaster over the chair, not the planning figure.
