How to assemble a hammock chair stand

Updated: 22 October 2026

The carton is in the room, and a review on more than one of these frames already mentions a missing screw or a bar that did not stay straight. How to assemble a hammock chair stand, for the frames in this amazon.co.uk set, starts with the paper in that box and ends with a stop rule. The prices and review lines sit on the [hanging chair frame comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/hanging-chair-frame). Listing text and published manuals for other stands were used here. None of those PDFs is the SELFLA or GOUTIME sheet in your box. Follow that sheet. These frames were not assembled in a lab. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Lay the parts out before you tighten anything

Empty the carton and count every bolt, nut, foot, and carabiner against the manual before any tube is joined. The IKEA BOCKÖN manual, for a different hammock stand, says not to use the product if a part is missing and not to substitute parts. That rule travels. A SELFLA foldable review mentions missing screws. The YEEFY box lists a wrench. One GOUTIME review says the bolting took about 30 minutes. If a screw is missing, ask the seller for a replacement. Do not raid a random bolt drawer. A shorter bolt can pull out of a thin wall. Leave the bolts loose until the frame is aligned. A Vivere Europe manual, for its own stand, says not to tighten until the frame lines up, and not to over-tighten. Where your sheet is vague, dry-fit, square the joints, then tighten in a circuit so one corner is not fully clamped while the opposite corner is still proud. This page cannot number the SELFLA bolts, because the extract does not list them. Two adults appear in one foldable review, which matches a tall frame that is awkward once the top curve is in the air. If the manual shows a crossbar pressed into a groove, seat that bar fully before you hang the chair. If the chair's hook count does not match the stand, leave the spanner and read the hanging chair stand buying guide.

Feet, flat floor, and the grass warning

Fit the feet where the manual marks them, then choose the floor. The AMAZONAS Luna manual, which is not the SELFLA sheet, asks for a firm flat floor, says not to use grass, and shows two of four rubber feet on the front tube. Grass lets a foot sink. A bedroom floor is the surface these chair stands are often built for. The IKEA BOCKÖN sheet says not to put that lying-hammock stand on concrete or asphalt, because a fall onto a hard surface can injure. That line belongs to a hammock you lie in. Do not copy it as a ban on a bedroom frame. Do copy the flat-floor line. Press each corner before you hang the chair. If one foot lifts, the floor is not level, or a joint was tightened early and has twisted the frame. Loosen, resettle, and tighten again. The YEEFY bullet mentions adjustable foot studs, which are for a small difference in a hard floor, not for a lawn that slopes to the fence. The U-frame weighs 7.87 kg, and a Canada review says it slides when someone swings unless it sits on a mat. A mat can stop slide on a smooth floor. It does not turn a storage warning into an outdoor frame. That seller says to store the U-frame indoors after outdoor use, and a UK review reports rust after two light showers.

Sit in the middle, and do not invent a swing

Hang the chair, then sit in the middle with both feet down before you lean. Hammock Heaven's insert, for its own product, says ages 12 and up, sit in the middle, and expect bolts to loosen. A sit on one edge is already a tip test. Egg Chairs UK asks for about a metre clear and says to stop if the frame is bent. Get in facing the open side, and watch whether a foot lifts. Do not invent a swing the maker forbade. The Luna manual says not to swing, or the stand may tip, and it states 120 kg on that product. The black SELFLA bullet says the frame is not recommended as a swing. If you swing anyway, the same bullet asks for four 5 kg sandbags. That is ballast the seller named. Twenty kilograms of sand does not cancel a buckled crossbar, and those bags are not in the YEEFY or GOUTIME bullets, so do not add them as if every maker had asked. GOUTIME reviews praise a free arc, and one describes a bolt that sheared when the sitter leaned to get out. The arc that feels pleasant while you are centred loads a bolt at the moment you stand up. If the base lifts on the first sit, unload the chair and read the stop list.

When to take it apart and stop

Stop if a tube bends, a bolt shears, or a foot lifts under a normal sit and will not settle on a level floor. A bent crossbar does not go back with a longer spanner. Straightening a cracked weld is a metalworker's job, and a ceiling fixing is a carpenter's job. Assembly of these bolt-together stands stays a household job until a part is bent or missing. Take the chair off, photograph the joint, and use the seller's returns route while the carton is still in the house. A buckle under an empty chair, which one GOUTIME review describes, is already past the idea that it might bed in. Rust is a stop when it is more than a mark you will store dry. The U-frame review of rust after two light showers means that frame should come inside, and a flake at a bolt hole means the section is thinning. Retighten on a schedule you can keep. Hammock Heaven notes that bolts loosen. A monthly pass with the YEEFY wrench, or the spanner a SELFLA review used, suits a frame you sit in most evenings. Children should not assemble the stand, and they should not sit in it alone. The Hammock Heaven insert draws an age line at 12 for its product. A WUDLEP review said that set was not stable enough for a child. An adult builds, an adult checks the bolts, and an adult stays in the room, including on the Trekassy kids' set, where one review wanted ballast for harder swinging. If the hook on the chair and the hook on the stand were never the same number, careful tightening will not repair the mismatch. That is a buying problem.

Common questions

In what order do I tighten the bolts?
Follow the sheet in the box. Where that sheet is thin, align the frame with the bolts only nipped, then tighten in a circuit so one joint is not fully clamped while another is still open. A Vivere manual for a different stand says not to tighten until the frame is aligned, and not to over-tighten. This capture does not list a SELFLA bolt count, so do not invent a numbered sequence. A GOUTIME review put the bolting at about 30 minutes, which is a pace, not a torque.
What if screws are missing?
Stop and contact the seller. Do not substitute a bolt from a mixed drawer, and do not build with a hole left empty. IKEA's BOCKÖN manual, for another stand, says not to use the product if a part is missing and not to substitute parts. Foldable SELFLA reviews already mention missing screws. Photograph the fixings against the parts list before you throw the bag away.
Can I swing once it feels steady when I sit still?
Only if the manual for that frame allows it. The Luna manual says not to swing, or the stand may tip. The SELFLA bullet says a swing is not recommended, and it asks for four 5 kg sandbags if you do it anyway. A steady sit does not prove a swing. A GOUTIME review describes a bolt shearing on the way out of the seat. If your sheet is silent, treat silence as a still sit, not as permission to swing.
Can I put the stand on the lawn?
The Luna sheet, for its own stand, asks for a firm flat floor and says not to use grass, because a foot sinks and the frame leans. These chair stands are used indoors on floors in this comparison. IKEA's warning about concrete belongs to its lying-hammock stand and a fall onto a hard surface. It is not a ban on a bedroom floor. Fit the feet where your own manual marks them, then press each corner and resettle any foot that lifts.
When do I stop if something bends?
Stop as soon as you can see a bend, a sheared bolt, or a foot that lifts under a sit you meant to be still. Unload the chair and do not straighten a cracked weld at home. A review buckle, and a review of an empty chair bending a GOUTIME stand, are both past continued use. Assembly is a household job until that moment. After it, the useful step is a return, not a longer lever on the damaged tube.
Should children assemble it or sit in it alone?
Children should not build the frame, and they should not use it unsupervised. One hammock insert draws the line at age 12. A review of the WUDLEP set said it was not stable enough for a child, and that set has no stated load. The Trekassy listing is a kids' chair and pod, and a review still wanted weight on the base for harder swinging. An adult assembles, checks the bolts, and stays in the room.
