Bistro set or dining set

Updated: 23 October 2026

You searched for a bistro set or dining set and amazon.co.uk handed you lounge furniture with a similar title. The decision is the table, not the seat count. A café set for two, a conversation set with a coffee table, and a table you can eat at are three different buys, and this batch contains all three. If you pick from the stars alone you can spend £129.99 on a top about 37 cm high when you wanted plates at elbow level. The nine listings are on the [garden table with chairs comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/garden-table-with-chairs). This page uses their printed heights, read on 21 October 2026, and it does not turn 66 cm into a British Standard. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Three names for three jobs

A bistro set, in the glossary retailers use, is two chairs and a small table for drinks. Garden Centre Shopping describes it that way, and another retail guide puts bistro with coffee, dining with meals, and lounge with longer sitting. A conversation set in this batch is a loveseat or a group of chairs around a low glass top. A dining set is the one whose table is high enough that a chair slides under it and a plate is not in your lap. Amazon files all three under garden table and chairs. The title can say 4 seater and still mean the low table. Both EVRE Madrid colours cost £129.99 and share a 4.4 line from 2,526 reviews, and the table on the black listing is a coffee table. That shared star line is not two proofs that you can eat there. Materials, loads and parasol holes are the longer checklist on the garden table with chairs buying guide.

What 60 cm and 37 cm are for

Harbour’s bistro table is 60 cm across and 71 cm high. The height looks close to a dining table. The diameter does not. A retailer note, labelled as a rule of thumb rather than a survey, treats a 60 to 70 cm round top as drinks, and about 70 to 80 cm square before two place settings. Lafuma’s guide allows about 55 to 60 cm of edge per person. Two mugs fit. Two Sunday plates and a bowl do not, unless you are happy to eat in stages. Withniture is the same class of top at 60.5 cm across and 66 cm high, with a 5 cm parasol hole and the umbrella not included. The yellow Grand patio folder does not print an open diameter, so you cannot prove it is larger than Harbour from the page. Yaangagpe’s only size line is an item dimension of 58 × 56.5 × 80 cm, which is not a clear table height. Madrid is the lounge. The black listing prints the coffee table at about 70 × 40 × 37 cm and the seat height at 37 cm. You sit back. You do not pull a chair into a dining position, because the top is level with the seat. The cedar listing does not print that height. Do not assume a different number because the weave is brown. One retailer puts coffee tables around 45 cm and dining tables around 74 to 76 cm. Madrid’s 37 cm is even lower than that coffee example. Skip it for lunch. A balcony that cannot hold a loveseat is a different problem, covered on the balcony table and chairs page.

The 66 cm Florence table

Florence is the only set in this batch sold as dining height. The bullet gives the glass table as 110 × 65 × 66 cm, with a two-seat sofa and two armchairs, at £199.99. A reviewer says that height is enough to eat at. That sentence is the reviewer’s experience, not a test against a 75 cm rule. Sixty-six centimetres is below the 74 to 76 cm dining description some shops use, and it is still a different object from Madrid’s 37 cm top. Call it the tall table here. Do not call it a standard dining height. The chair load is stated as 160 kg and the table load as 50 kg, which are the seller’s figures, not a BS EN 581 result. The star line is 4.1 from 91 reviews. That is not a reason to skip it for meals and buy Madrid because 4.4 looks stronger. The 4.4 is attached to a coffee table. Florence’s own limits are the price, a second person for assembly, and reviews that include missing bolts and missing cushions. The short list of who should buy which row is on the best garden table with chairs page. The mesh set is the other way to buy the wrong job. It is a conversation set at £134.98 with a glass coffee table, a chair load of 150 kg and a table load of 75 kg. The item-type field says chaises longues. The title says a garden table and chairs set. If you needed upright dining chairs and a 66 cm top, the mesh set is the mismatch.

If you want both coffee and a meal

One listing in this batch does not do both. Madrid at 37 cm and Florence at 66 cm are two purchases, at £129.99 and £199.99, and most patios that can take one four-piece set cannot take both without measuring the chairs pulled out. Harbour’s 71 cm height with a 60 cm top is a drinks table that happens to be tall, not a small dining table. If you eat outside once a month and sit out every evening, buy the height you use more often and accept a tray on your lap for the other meal. If you eat outside every weekend, Florence is the row, and the lounge set is the one to leave. There is no extendable top in these nine. Check the chair as well as the top. Florence’s chairs are the 82 cm high armchairs in the bullet, sold with the 66 cm table. Madrid’s seat is 37 cm, sold with the 37 cm table. Mixing a bistro chair from another listing under Florence is not what these sets include. Buy the pair the page actually ships, then decide whether 66 cm is high enough for the people who will sit there by trying a similar table you already own.

Common questions

What is a bistro set?
In the retail glossaries used here, it is two chairs and a small table for coffee or drinks, not a four-seat meal. This batch uses that shape for Harbour, the yellow Grand patio folder, Yaangagpe, Withniture and TangXiaoQi. Harbour is the one with a printed 60 cm round top at 71 cm high and no assembly. A bistro title on Amazon can still hide a lounge set, so read the table height before you trust the word.
Can two people eat a meal on a 60 cm table?
You can manage a snack or one shared dish. A full place setting each is tight on Harbour’s 60 cm top and on Withniture’s 60.5 cm top, using the 55 to 60 cm of edge per person in Lafuma’s guide. The table may be 66 or 71 cm high and still be too small in plan. If dinner is the regular job, those sets are the wrong size even when the star line is 4.6.
Is a 4-seater rattan set a dining set?
Only if the table height says so. Madrid is sold as four seats and the black listing’s table is about 37 cm high, which is a coffee table. Florence is also a four-piece rattan set and the table bullet is 66 cm. The seat count in the title does not choose between them. Florence is £70 more in this batch because the table is the taller one, not because the weave is a different species.
How high is the coffee table on the Madrid listing?
The black listing prints about 70 × 40 × 37 cm for the coffee table and 37 cm for the seat height. The cedar listing does not print the table height. Both show 4.4 from 2,526 reviews, so do not treat the cedar page as a second measurement. Thirty-seven centimetres is lounge height. It is lower than the 45 cm coffee example one retailer uses, and it is not a dining table.
Is 66 cm high enough to call Florence dining?
It is high enough that a reviewer eats at it, and it is the only table in this batch with that claim beside a 110 × 65 cm top. It is not the 74 to 76 cm figure some shops call dining height, and the listing does not cite a standard. Use 66 cm as the printed number. If the people at the table are tall and you already know you need a higher top, Florence can still be low for you. It will not be as low as Madrid.
When is the mesh conversation set the wrong buy?
When you wanted to eat, or when you wanted sun loungers because the item-type field says chaises longues. The title is a table-and-chairs conversation set with a glass coffee table. The field conflicts with the title, and the reviews talk about chairs and a table. It is also the wrong buy if you wanted Madrid’s 4.4 line: this one is 3.9 from 246, with a hard build. The loads, 150 kg and 75 kg, do not turn the coffee table into a dining table.
