Folding bench for parties

Updated: 22 October 2026

You are short of chairs for a Christmas meal, a BBQ, or a hall booking, and you need places that can disappear after pudding. A folding bench for parties is a long, backless trestle for that overflow, not a dining chair and not a seat you leave on the patio. In this amazon.co.uk set every kept bench is about 180 cm open, so one covers one side of a 6 ft table and two cover both. Plan on three adults in comfort on each bench. The listings, prices, and pack sizes are on the [folding bench comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/folding-bench). Peter F. used the amazon.co.uk listings from 21 October 2026 and did not host the meal. A qualifying purchase through our links can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Count seats, not the capacity field alone

The seating field is a blunt instrument. Three of these listings say 4. The black pair’s field says 2, which cannot mean two people on each of two 6 ft benches, because the title is a pack of two. UK reviews are more consistent: three adults sit comfortably, and some groups squeeze four. B&Q says up to four, Pro-Fold says three to four, and Oypla says four person. Those are seller counts, not a measured dinner. Promise three, and four only if people will sit tight. A 180 cm seat about 26–30 cm deep, with no back, is a perch. The listings do not give a child limit. A shared Harbour review describes a middle leg that snapped with two people, one a child, so a child on the end is not a reason to skip the lock. Which listing to open is on the best folding bench page. Length, lock, and ground are in the folding bench buying guide.

One side or both

One bench feeds one long side. A table with guests opposite each other needs two, unless the other side is already chairs. In this snapshot the black single is £31.99 and the black pair is £61.99, so two benches bought as a pair cost about £1.99 less than two singles, roughly £31.00 each. That is a packing convenience, not a stronger frame. Two Lifetime benches at £26.99 each would undercut the pair if white granite is acceptable and you want the separate 4.8 from 3,542 reviews. The Harbour 4.4 from 160 is shared. Buying the pair does not buy you 320 reviews. The white Harbour bullet says the bench pairs with Harbour Housewares folding tables. That is a matching suggestion, not a requirement. Colour does not change the three-adult plan. If you only have one spare side, buy one bench and stop. The pair’s 15 kg item weight is two benches to carry in from the car, against 7 kg for the Lifetime and 7.5 kg for the black single. The white file does not state a weight, so do not assume it matches the black 7.5 kg.

Match the table, then the floor

Seat height is about 42–42.5 cm where the listing prints it. The white Harbour field says 42.5 cm. The black open bullet is 42.5 cm high. Lifetime prints 16.54 inches, about 42 cm. A Harbour folding table that is not in this comparison, ASIN B00OJ0X5CW, was about 73–73.5 cm high on 21 October 2026, with a stated table load of 110 kg. The gap from a 42 cm seat is about 30 cm. That is a rule of thumb, and the table’s 110 kg is the table’s figure. Do not paste it onto the bench. Measure your own table. A usual dining height near 75 cm will feel different from a trestle. A hall or a patio slab matches these feet. A Harbour review says there is no bar on the centre legs, so they dig in off solid ground. Grass at a BBQ needs boards. Open, secure, then sit, using the steps on how to fold a folding bench.

Same-evening storage

Put the benches away the same evening if you bought them as overflow. Folded, the black bullet is 90 × 7.5 × 26.5 cm. The white bullet is 91.5 × 9.5 × 30.5 cm, with a second line at 31.5 × 93 × 10 cm. Lifetime’s title prints 9.8 × 96.0 × 30.5 cm next to the 6 ft name. There is no carry bag in these files. Harbour names a handle. Lifetime reviewers mention a strap that the bullets do not list. Wipe the seat before it goes into a cupboard. Lifetime’s care line is a damp cloth. White Harbour’s is a dry cloth. The black pages do not state care. Leaving a plastic trestle on the lawn overnight is how feet sit in damp ground. None of these listings claims a weathering test under BS EN 581-2. If a bench arrives cracked or bent on the morning of the party, do not straighten it and hope. Have the benches a day early. Hiring a wooden party bench, at a rate such as £6 a week, is a different product. It is not a ranking of these four ASINs.

Common questions

How many adults sit on one 6 ft bench at dinner?
Plan three adults in comfort on one 180 cm bench. Four appears in some reviews and on seller pages, including a seating field that says 4, and it means people sit closer on a hard, backless pad. The pair’s field that says 2 is a pack clash, not a headcount. Promise three, and treat four as a squeeze for people who will not be there all afternoon.
Do I need two benches for one table?
You need one bench per long side that is not already chairs. One 180 cm bench does not serve both sides. Two black singles are £63.98 in this snapshot and the pair is £61.99. Two Lifetime benches at £26.99 each cost less if you do not need black. A second bench is extra seats, not a backrest for the first one.
Will the seat height work with a 6 ft trestle?
Where these listings print a height, it is about 42–42.5 cm. A Harbour trestle table checked on amazon.co.uk, not one of these benches, was about 73–73.5 cm high, so the gap is about 30 cm. That is a normal trestle relationship and only a rule of thumb. Measure your own table. Do not copy the table’s 110 kg load onto the bench.
Can children sit on the end?
Families use these benches at children’s parties in the reviews. The listings do not state a child rating. A shared review describes a middle leg that snapped with two people, one a child, which is a reason to check the lock and the ground, not a reason to perch a child on an unlocked end. Keep hands away from the hinge when you fold it at the end of the night.
Indoor hall or lawn?
A hall floor or paving matches the way reviewers talk about flat ground. Lawn does not, unless you put boards down, because a Harbour review says there is no centre-leg bar and the feet dig in. Indoor and outdoor on the title allows both settings. It does not add a spreader bar. For a marquee on grass, look at the floor before you look at the colour.
What do I do with them after pudding, and is hire different?
Fold them, clasp them shut, and wipe the seat before the cupboard. Folded length is about 90–96 cm depending on which bullet you trust. Hire of a wooden party bench is another object, sometimes priced by the week, and it does not change which of these plastic listings you would buy if you want to keep the seats. If a frame is cracked on arrival, sort the return before the guests sit down.
