How to fit a beer bench cover

Updated: 22 October 2026

The cover usually fails after it is on, not in the basket. A loose shell sails across the patio on the first gust, and a cloth pulled over wet wood holds the damp against the timber. This page covers what has to be dry, where the cushions go, and which fastenings exist on which listing. It does not rank the five products. Sizes and prices are on the [beer bench cover comparison](/hub/garden-furniture/beer-bench-cover). The Products Compared editorial team used those amazon.co.uk listings, captured on 19 October 2026, plus UK cover-care guides. Before it goes on

Dry the wood first. Wipe crumbs, bird mess and standing water off the table and both benches, then leave the timber until it is dry to the touch, including the undersides. Nova Outdoor Living's care guide says the furniture should be dry, the cover should come fully down, and you should fasten it and still leave air. Take the cushions off and store them indoors. Loose pads hold water and they block the airflow a vent is meant to give you. Check the frame for a bent leg or a splinter that will saw a hole in the cloth. A cover will not straighten a rail.

A three-piece cloth is not a shell

A party set is three separate cloths. Dress the table, then each bench, and stop when the hems sit over the feet rather than pooling on the top. WedDecor and Trimming Shop both print a table cloth of 220 x 50 x 70 cm and bench cloths of 220 x 25 x 46 cm. Trimming Shop adds a bench about 48 cm high. If the cloth stops halfway down the leg, the set is a different height from the listing. That check is on the 220 cm beer bench cover page. None of the three party listings states a hem cord. Noor's cloths are flat, 220 x 65 cm and 220 x 87 cm. On a windy day a loose white cloth is a kite. Do not invent a drawcord. Trimming Shop says machine wash at 30°C. WedDecor says both 30°C and hand wash only.

Fasten a shell

YedZen lists a side strap, a bottom drawstring, four corner loops, two side vents and two handles. ANEELV lists a drawstring, windproof buckles, a waist belt and mesh vents, and it does not state handles. Use only the parts that listing gave you. Seat the cover so the skirts reach the ground, including the bench ends. Raise the centre so rain runs off the seam, then pull the hem in. On YedZen that is the strap, the drawstring and the loops. On ANEELV that is the drawstring, the buckles and the belt. Close a toggle only after the hem is even. Do not put the cover on next to a lit barbecue. ANEELV's seller says the furniture should be fully cooled.

Water on the top and damp underneath

A shell can shed water off the crown and still wet the wood if the air cannot leave. YedZen states two side vents. ANEELV states mesh vents and does not say how many. Do not tape the gaps shut. Water on the inside on a dry day is condensation. A drip from a seam while rain is falling is a leak. Care for these shells is wipe or rinse, then air dry. Do not fold a damp shell into its bag. When the hem will not meet, the set is wider than the shell. The buying guide separates a day cloth from a shell, and slipcover or weather cover is the short version of that split.

Common questions

Do I dry the set first?
Yes. Wipe the table and both benches, then let them dry before any cloth goes on. Covering wet wood traps moisture against the timber. A shower an hour ago is not dry enough if the underside of the bench is still dark.
Where do the cushions go?
Indoors. Loose beer-bench pads hold water and they sit in the space a vent needs. Leaving them on the bench under a shell is how a weekend cover becomes a damp parcel.
How do I stop the shell blowing off?
Get the skirt fully down, crown the top so water leaves, then close the fastening that listing actually has. On YedZen that is the side strap, the drawstring and the four loops. On ANEELV that is the drawstring, the buckles and the waist belt.
What if my cloth set has no drawcord?
Then you do not have a shell, and you should not fake one. WedDecor, Trimming Shop and Noor do not state a hem cord. Use them for the afternoon and take them in if the wind gets up.
Is condensation a leak?
Not always. Water on the inside on a dry morning is usually trapped damp air, especially if the wood went in wet or the cushions blocked the vents. A leak is water coming through a seam while it is raining.
Can I machine-wash the shell?
Not from anything these two shell listings say. YedZen is wipe or rinse, then air dry. ANEELV is wipe. Trimming Shop's 30°C line belongs to that polyester party set only. Fold the shell only when it is dry.
