Güde petrol or cordless chainsaw

Updated: 22 October 2026

A Güde petrol or cordless chainsaw choice is a job split. Petrol KS saws are listed at 22 m/s and a cut of 360, 420 or 480 mm. The KS 36-0 is listed at 6 m/s and 320 mm, and the battery is not in the box. On 21 October 2026 neither side had a featured offer on amazon.co.uk, so this page states no pound price. The [Güde chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/guede-chainsaw) is the in-stock table, and those rows are other brands. Peter F. used manufacturer listings and did not lab-test either saw. What each Güde saw is actually for

A petrol KS is a two-stroke saw listed at 22 m/s. The KS 400-38 cuts to 360 mm (38 cm³, 1.4 kW). The KS 450-55 cuts to 420 mm (about 55 cm³, 2.3 kW, Oregon 3/8 inch, 61 links, article 95044). The KS 500-62 cuts to 480 mm (62 cm³, 0.325 inch, 1.5 mm, 78 links). Marketing for the largest step says 2.85 kW; a manual cell prints 2.3 kW. They are not one chain. The KS 36-0 is a brushless 36 V saw made from two 18 V packs. Listing B0BKV7C72X states 320 mm, 6 m/s, an Oregon chain with 52 drive links, an electronic brake and an automatic oiler. A 320 mm cut can take garden limbs. It is a weak match for stove rounds a 420 mm petrol bar is published to clear. Which?'s average of about 12 minutes is not a KS 36-0 runtime, and Güde prints no cut count. A 6 inch mini saw is not a third Güde option. If bar length is still open, the Güde chainsaw buying guide is the decision order.

The cordless price is not the bare tool

The KS 36-0 is sold without battery or charger. Two 18 V packs make the 36 V saw run, so a tool-only price is not a working saw. The petrol engine is in the box. The fluids are not. The listing showed 3.9 from 3 ratings and was unavailable on 21 October 2026. We will not paste Which?'s 12 minutes onto this model. The charger plug was not stated, and a UK socket needs BS 1363, not a Schuko plug. Easy-Energy-Exchange is Güde's battery approach, not approval for any other 18 V pack. An automatic oiler still needs chain oil. The 52-link loop is not the 61-link chain from the KS 450-55.

Noise, fumes and looking after the saw

Marketing sound-power on the petrol pages is 117 dB. The KS 450-55 manual does not agree with every language block, so trust the label on the machine. The KS 36-0 listing prints 105 dB. That is not quiet enough to skip hearing protection. HSE still lists protection to BS EN 352. The 1:40 mix, the chain-oil tank and tension are on how to use a Güde chainsaw. The cordless saw skips the mix and still needs chain oil, a 52-link chain and charged packs. The KS 450-55 manual prints about 7.1 and 6.9 m/s² at the handles. We did not measure the KS 36-0.

When to choose which

Choose a petrol KS for a log pile you can fuel. For ordinary firewood the default is the KS 450-55. Step to the KS 500-62 only for 480 mm and the 0.325 inch chain. Choose the KS 36-0 for pruning, after you price two 18 V packs and a BS 1363 charger. Skip it for a long firewood session. Skip both if you need a saw this week and neither listing has a featured offer. A £40 mini saw is the best value in the in-stock table for light pruning. It is not the cordless Güde. Bar length for logs already down is on chainsaw for firewood. Swap the job and the recommendation fails.

Common questions

Should I buy the petrol KS or the KS 36-0?
Buy the petrol KS for a log pile, once amazon.co.uk shows a price: 22 m/s and a cut of 360, 420 or 480 mm. Buy the KS 36-0 for pruning if you add two 18 V packs and a charger. It is listed at 6 m/s and 320 mm. On 21 October 2026 both were unavailable.
Does the cordless Güde include a battery?
No. The KS 36-0 listing sells the tool without the battery and without the charger. The saw is 36 V from two 18 V packs. A tool-only price understates what you need to cut anything. Listing B0BKV7C72X showed 3.9 from 3 ratings. That sample is too small to judge packs that are not in the box.
Will the KS 36-0 cut firewood?
It will cut pieces that fit a 320 mm bar, slowly next to a petrol saw at 22 m/s. It is a weak choice for a household log pile. Güde publishes no cuts per charge. Which?'s 12 minutes is Which's average, not a KS 36-0 runtime.
How loud is the petrol saw compared with the cordless one?
Petrol marketing prints 117 dB sound power. The KS 36-0 listing prints 105 dB. The petrol manual does not agree with every marketing block, so use the label on the saw. HSE still lists hearing protection to BS EN 352 for both. We did not measure either figure.
Can I use any 18 V battery?
The KS 36-0 is specified as two 18 V packs in Güde's system. A slogan about exchanging batteries is not approval for every 18 V pack on amazon.co.uk. A Makita-fit claim on another mini saw belongs to that listing and was not checked. Buy the packs the KS 36-0 page names, and check the charger plug is BS 1363.
Is a £40 mini saw the cordless option?
No. Around £40 buys a 6 inch saw from another brand, often with two small packs and an empty oil bottle. The cordless Güde is the KS 36-0, at 320 mm and 6 m/s, sold without a battery. A mini saw does not replace it.
