Güde chainsaw buying guide

Updated: 22 October 2026

You have winter logs on the ground, or a garden that needs a first saw, and the name you typed is Güde. This Güde chainsaw buying guide puts the choice in order: the job, the length of cut, then the chain for that article. On 21 October 2026 the KS 400-38, KS 450-55, KS 500-62 and KS 36-0 had no featured offer on amazon.co.uk, so no pound price is quoted. The [Güde chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/guede-chainsaw) lists the saws that were in stock. Those rows are other brands. Peter F. used manufacturer pages and public UK safety sources, and did not run a lab test. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

Start with the job, not the watt claim

Write down the thickest piece you expect to finish in one pass, then pick the saw whose published cut is a little longer. Felling a standing tree is outside this page. If the saw is already in the shed, use how to use a Güde chainsaw. Güde publishes three petrol cuts. The KS 400-38 is 38 cm³, 1.4 kW and a 360 mm cut, with a 3/8 inch chain and 57 links. The KS 450-55 is about 55 cm³ and 2.3 kW, with a 420 mm cut. The KS 500-62 is 62 cm³ and a 480 mm cut. Marketing says 2.85 kW; a power cell in the manual prints 2.3 kW. Keep both. For stove wood, use chainsaw for firewood.

The KS petrol steps are not one chain

The spare must match pitch, gauge and drive-link count. Bar length in inches is not enough. Article 95044, the KS 450-55, takes an Oregon 91P061X chain: 3/8 inch pitch, 1.3 mm gauge, 61 drive links, at 22 m/s. The fuel note is 1:40. The KS 500-62 manual specifies 0.325 inch pitch, 1.5 mm gauge and 78 links, also at 22 m/s. Those chains do not interchange. The KS 400-38 stays on 3/8 inch with 57 links, on a Güde bar rather than the Oregon fitment of the KS 450-55. The KS 36-0 names an Oregon chain with 52 drive links, which is not a spare for either petrol chain.

The 36 V saw is a different tool

The KS 36-0 is a brushless 36 V saw built from two 18 V packs. Listing B0BKV7C72X states a 320 mm cut and 6 m/s. The petrol pages state 22 m/s, which is why this saw sits with pruning, not a morning of stove wood. Battery and charger are not in the box. An electronic brake and an automatic oiler are claimed, and you still add chain oil. The charger plug was not stated, so check for a BS 1363 plug. Easy-Energy-Exchange is Güde's battery system, not a promise that any other 18 V pack will run the saw. The split is on Güde petrol or cordless chainsaw. A 6 inch mini saw from another brand is not a cheaper KS 36-0.

What to do when amazon.co.uk shows no price

On 21 October 2026 those four listings had no featured offer. The KS 400-38 (B0CP2PHSF6) showed 4.2 from 82 ratings and 0 reviews from the United Kingdom. The KS 450-55 (B0CYTCWKGY) showed 3.7 from 34. The KS 500-62 (B0CYTDTLT3) showed 4.0 from 64. The KS 36-0 showed 3.9 from 3. Euro and krone prices stay in those currencies. The in-stock rows are other brands. The only 20 inch petrol saw among them is the Hyundai HYC6200X at £109.89. Wait for a Güde offer if the article number matters.

Common questions

Which Güde chainsaw is the one for ordinary firewood?
For logs already on the ground, start with the KS 450-55: about 55 cm³, 2.3 kW, a 420 mm cut, article 95044. Güde's line for that model includes firewood around the house. Use the KS 500-62 only when you need 480 mm and its 0.325 inch chain. None of these had a featured UK offer on 21 October 2026.
What is the difference between the KS 450-55 and the KS 500-62 chain?
The KS 450-55 takes Oregon 3/8 inch, 1.3 mm, 61 links (91P061X). The KS 500-62 takes 0.325 inch, 1.5 mm and 78 links. Both pages state 22 m/s. Ordering by inches, without pitch and link count, puts the wrong loop on the bar.
Does the KS 36-0 come with a battery?
No. Listing B0BKV7C72X sells the KS 36-0 without battery or charger. It uses two 18 V packs, listed at 6 m/s and 320 mm. Price the packs before you compare it with a petrol saw you can mix. On 21 October 2026 it was unavailable, with 3.9 from 3 ratings.
Can I use a 6 inch cordless saw instead of a KS petrol saw?
A 6 inch cordless row is a pruning tool from another brand, not a substitute for a KS 450-55 on stove rounds. Petrol pages state 22 m/s. The cordless Güde, the KS 36-0, is 6 m/s and 320 mm, and the packs are separate.
Why is there no pound price on the Güde listing?
The four amazon.co.uk pages had no featured offer on 21 October 2026. A missing price is an empty offer, not a bargain. Euro and Danish kroner prices stay in those currencies. In-stock pound prices in the main table belong to other brands.
Is GS tested a UK approval?
No. GS tested is not a UKCA mark and not a test from this site. Machinery on the Great Britain market is covered by the Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations 2008. We did not inspect a UKCA label here. Treat a GS line as the seller's claim, and read the label on the machine you have.
Are the saws in the comparison table actually Güde?
No. The rows are Hyundai, Supstable, Seesii, SINPY, Angseen, NovorikX, Sukumo and GEARPASS. The KS petrol saws and the KS 36-0 were looked up separately and had no featured offer. Read the brand column before you add a row to the basket.
