Best 16 inch electric chainsaw for a stated UK job

Updated: 22 October 2026

Sorting eight amazon.co.uk listings by star average alone will put a 4.7 from eleven ratings beside a 4.4 from 1,561 and treat them as equal. This page does not do that. You get a corded fit for logs beside a socket, a cordless fit when there is no mains, and two skips where the listing and the reviews part company. None of these eight was bench-tested. Prices and counts are the saved figures on the [16 inch chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/16-inch-chainsaw). Peter F. read those listings in October 2026. Best for logs beside a socket

Beside a socket, the corded band is Hyundai HYC2400E at about £88.98, DOVAMAN DCS01A at about £94.97, and Oregon CS1400 at about £114.42, each at 2400 W with a 16 inch bar. Oregon is 4.4 from 1,561 and states a chain brake. Hyundai is 4.3 from 1,037, with a 12 m cable, and it is the best value if you buy oil and retension after warm cuts. Choose Oregon for that deeper sample and a brake in the bullets. DOVAMAN’s nine ratings do not outrank those pools. The checks are on the 16 inch chainsaw buying guide.

Best cordless when there is no socket

Dong Cheng DCCS40161 at about £149.99 needs both 20 V 4.0 Ah packs fitted for a stated 40 V. It is 3.9 from 65 ratings, at 7.94 kg, with an inertia brake claimed under 0.1 seconds. A UK review describes a field stack with no mains, the case on the corded or cordless chainsaw page. VOERJIA at about £162.99 prints chain pitch and gauge, but 4.3 from 250 mixes smaller-bar texts. The about £52.99 pair is for light cuts: papasbox is 3.8 from 62, and Yelyee is 4.7 from 11.

Leave these until the listing matches the reviews

GEARPASS at about £85.99 is 3.3 from eleven ratings. UK reviews say the chain brake is fitted the wrong way round, so it is not a safety-led pick until you have checked the saw in your hands. Using Yelyee’s 4.7 from eleven against Oregon’s 1,561 is the same mistake. VOERJIA’s 250 ratings are not 16 inch proof when many texts describe a 6 inch or 8 inch bar.

What this page will not call best

There is no lab comparison of these eight ASINs. Best means fit to the job and to the review file, not a measured cut speed. No listing prints a UKCA mark you can award, and petrol is not in this set. HSE action values for employers are 80, 85 and 87 dB(A). None of these products lists dB(A), and a 102 dB remark on Dong Cheng is not a spec. If the saw is not as described, the Consumer Rights Act 2015 is the route.

Common questions

Which corded saw has the strongest UK review base in this set?
Oregon CS1400, at 4.4 from 1,561 amazon.co.uk ratings, then Hyundai HYC2400E at 4.3 from 1,037. That is the corded evidence order in this set. DOVAMAN also prints 4.4, from nine ratings, which is not the same kind of sample. Depth of the written file is why Oregon leads the socket-side shortlist.
Is the cheaper Hyundai a worse saw because it has fewer stars than the Oregon?
No. It scores 4.3 against 4.4, both from four-figure pools, at about £88.98 with a 12 m cable. It is the best value corded pick for many garden piles if you buy bar oil separately and retension after warm cuts. A tenth of a star on a large sample is not a thinner file.
Who is the £52.99 cordless pair for, and who should skip it?
papasbox and Yelyee are for light pruning if you accept a thin or weak sample and short runtime reports. papasbox is 3.8 from 62, with guard-snap themes. Yelyee is 4.7 from 11. Skip both for regular stove logs, or when you want a stated chain-brake time on the listing rather than a lock-off only.
Why is a 4.7 from eleven ratings not the top pick?
Eleven scores are not the same evidence as 1,561 UK ratings on the Oregon CS1400. A small sample moves quickly. On Yelyee the spec block omits voltage, and the dimensions field prints 10 x 10 x 10 mm. The star line is real. It is not a reason to rank that saw above a four-figure corded sample.
Should GEARPASS be recommended while the brake reviews stand?
Not as a safety pick. GEARPASS is about £85.99 and 3.3 from eleven ratings. UK reviews say the chain brake is fitted the wrong way round. Gloves and a spare chain do not close that gap. Check the brake on the saw you receive, or choose a listing where it is stated and not disputed.
Is Dong Cheng’s second battery a spare?
No. Both 20 V 4.0 Ah packs must be fitted together for the stated 40 V. The listing does not describe one pack as a spare you swap while you cut. Item weight is 7.94 kg. The included-components line names a charger, the saw, and two batteries, not a second chain.
Can VOERJIA’s 4.3 from 250 be quoted as a 16 inch result?
Only with the caveat that many review texts refer to 6 inch or 8 inch VOERJIA models. Do not treat the full 250 as 16 inch proof. The listing does print 3/8 inch low-profile, 59 drive links, and 0.050 inch gauge, at about £162.99. The packs run one after the other, not both fitted at once.
What does best mean if there is no lab?
It means the best match to your job: a socket or a field, the depth of the review file, and the brake and oil facts on the amazon.co.uk listing. It is not a cut-time chart. None of these eight was measured in a lab for this comparison. Petrol saws are outside the set, so they are not a hidden winner here.
