Corded vs cordless 14 inch chainsaw

Updated: 22 October 2026

You already want a 14 inch electric saw. The remaining fork is whether a lead beside a socket beats a battery you must charge. The [14 inch chainsaw comparison](/hub/forestry-tools/14-inch-chainsaw) mixes both in one table. This page keeps a single axis: continuous mains cut against a finite charge, plus the 3 m cable on the entry Hyundai and the body-only Einhell price that can look cheaper than a kit. When the lead is the better tool

Corded saws in this set cut until you stop, when the limit is your arms rather than amp-hours. The Hyundai HYC1600E at about £59.50 is titled 230 V, 1600 W, 14 inch, with a 3 m cable. Bullets still claim 2400 W and a 16 inch bar. The Oregon CS1200 at about £97.29 lists 1800 W and 14 inch, with a stated chain brake. Neither includes a battery. Electrical Safety First advises an outdoor extension, fully unwound, on a 30 mA RCD, with the cable behind you, and no cabled saw in the rain. A 3 m cable rarely reaches a woodpile. Rain and stance are on how to use a 14 inch chainsaw. Cordless bullets state up to 20 m/s on the HY40CCS350 and up to 15 m/s on the Einhell. The HYC1600E 13 rpm field is not a comparison number. The corded case is runtime, not a power crown.

When the battery is the better tool

Cordless suits work where a lead is impractical, if you will stop to swap or recharge. The HY40CCS350 at about £188.99 includes two 4.0 Ah packs and a dual charger, with bullets for up to 20 m/s, a brake and a 200 ml tank. Two packs let you rotate a charge. Oil is still a separate buy. The HYC40LI at about £209.00 ships one 2.5 Ah pack. UK reviewers report about 15 minutes in one account and longer in another. That is not a lab runtime for the other models. Which? reported a 12-minute average on cordless saws in a separate test. That is Which?’s set, not a figure on these cards. Petrol capacity is outside this comparison.

A kit price and a body-only price

The Einhell GP-LC 36/35 at about £129.95 is supplied without a Power X-Change battery or charger. Einhell 36 V tools use two 18 V packs. Beside the Hyundai kits it looks cheaper until you add packs you do not own. Bullets still state up to 15 m/s and a 115 ml tank. The star line is 4.4 from 4,127 ratings. You cannot cut until the platform is charged. The Husqvarna 225i at about £599.00 includes a battery and a charger in the title. Amp-hours are not stored. It is a kit at a premium price, not a corded alternative. Stored review texts are United States only, so 4.4 from 153 is not UK owner feedback. A cordless price without packs is neither continuous mains cut nor a ready session.

Which side to buy

Choose corded when logs stay beside a safe outdoor socket and you accept the lead, the HYC1600E conflicts or the Oregon brake wording. Choose cordless when the wood is beyond a practical lead and the box names the packs. Choose the Einhell body only with two 18 V Power X-Change packs already owned. Choose the Husqvarna kit only for that 36 V line. Bar length and oil are on the 14 inch chainsaw buying guide.

Common questions

Is a corded 14 inch chainsaw more powerful than a cordless one?
Not as a rule in this set. The HY40CCS350 bullets state up to 20 m/s and Einhell states up to 15 m/s, while the HYC1600E card does not give a usable m/s figure. Corded wins on continuous run time beside a socket. The Oregon CS1200 is titled 1800 W and the HYC1600E title says 1600 W, with a conflicting 2400 W bullet.
How far can I work with a 3 m cable?
Three metres from the plug, unless you add a rated outdoor extension, fully unwound, on a 30 mA RCD. The HYC1600E title is the listing that states a 3 m cable. Electrical Safety First also says to keep the cable behind you and not to use a cabled saw in the rain. Most woodpiles need that extension.
How long does a 2.5 Ah pack last?
The HYC40LI listing does not print minutes. UK reviewers on that card disagree: about 15 minutes in one account and longer in another, and one battery later would not charge. Treat one 2.5 Ah pack as a short session unless your own cuts show otherwise. That report is not a runtime for the other saws in the set.
Why is the Einhell cheaper than the Hyundai kits?
The Einhell GP-LC 36/35 at about £129.95 is usually the saw only. The HY40CCS350 at about £188.99 includes two 4.0 Ah packs and a dual charger. The HYC40LI at about £209.00 includes one 2.5 Ah pack and a charger. Add packs you do not own and the Einhell shelf price is no longer the lower complete cost.
Do I need a second battery?
For a long cordless session away from the socket, two packs let you rotate while one charges. The HY40CCS350 includes two 4.0 Ah packs. The HYC40LI includes one 2.5 Ah pack. Einhell includes none. The Husqvarna title includes a battery, and the amp-hours are not stored here.
Can I use a corded saw in wet weather?
Electrical Safety First says not to use a cabled saw in the rain. That limit sits on the corded side of this choice, for the HYC1600E and the Oregon CS1200. A cordless saw still needs the same stance, oil and PPE. Wet weather is not a reason to skip those checks. These six listings are electric. Petrol capacity is a different search.
