Shower tray repair kit for a chip, not a split

Updated: 16.10.2026

A chip in an acrylic shower tray, or on the enamel rim where a bottle caught it, is the mark people try to hide before guests arrive. A shower tray repair kit can fill a small chip in sound sanitaryware once the paste has cured. A split tray, a leak into the ceiling, or a landlord’s bath you have no agreement to alter, sits outside that job. The twelve amazon.co.uk kits are on our [tile repair kits](/hub/flooring/tiles-repair-kit) comparison. The Products Compared editorial team read those listings and the UK sources below on 15 October 2026. We did not run a lab test.

A chip, a scratch, or a split

A chip is a small loss of surface with hard edges. A scratch has not gone through. A split runs, flexes, or lets water out. Cramer UK limits its sanitary kit to minor chips and tells you to leave movement cracks and hairline cracks alone. The same limit applies to a paste under £24. Run the shower for a few minutes and look below. Water outside the tray means the shell or the waste is already failing, and paste on the inside face leaves that leak in place. If the crack opens under your hand, call a bathroom fitter. The mixing order for a sound chip is on our how to use a tile repair kit page.

Enamel, acrylic and porcelain are not one surface

Enamel is a fired glassy coat on metal. Acrylic is a plastic shell. A porcelain basin is a fired body with a glaze. Cramer’s sanitary kit uses a different sanding step for acrylic than for ceramic, because paper that levels hard enamel can cut a groove in softer acrylic. If the box holds one sheet, try it on a hidden edge of the tray first. MendMight, at about £13.59, names shower trays and refuses structural cracks. Bondtech, at about £9.99, names acrylic and prints 24 hours or more before sanding. YiJiAre has reviews in which paste slipped off a damp surface. The clock is the one printed on the box.

Keep water off until that kit says so

MendMight says 24 hours to cure and a further 24 hours or more before water. A bullet that mentions renters is a sales line, not permission from a landlord. Bondtech’s 24 hours or more before sanding is a sanding wait. Hupeyna says keep water off until fully cured and prints no hours. Heat figures stay with the product that printed them. Screwfix lists Cramer’s CRA16080EN as heat-resistant to 60°C and not food safe. ED Supplies claims up to 130°C for its own enamel putty. Neither number transfers to these twelve kits. A cracked floor tile is a different decision, on our repair or replace a cracked tile page.

Renting in England

In England, GOV.UK treats baths, sinks and basins as the landlord’s fittings. You repair them only if the tenancy says you may. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland set their own repair duties. Report a leak the day you see it. Where the agreement allows a chip you made, use a kit that prints a water wait.

Fill the chip, report the leak

If the tray or bath has a small chip, the surface is dry, and you can keep water off for the time on that box, a two-part paste can hide the mark. If the shell splits, flexes, or leaks below, stop. If you rent in England, baths, sinks and basins stay the landlord’s fittings unless the agreement says you may repair them. A seller line about renters is not that agreement.

Common questions

Can a paste kit repair a chipped acrylic shower tray?
A small chip in a sound acrylic tray can take a paste kit once the surface is clean and dry. MendMight names shower trays and limits the use to small cosmetic damage. Bondtech names acrylic and prints 24 hours or more before sanding. A split, a crack that moves when you press the tray, or water escaping underneath, sits outside that use. Cramer UK’s sanitary kit also refuses movement cracks and hairline cracks.
What is the difference between enamel and acrylic when sanding?
Enamel is a hard fired coat. Acrylic is a softer plastic. Cramer’s kit uses a different sanding step for acrylic than for ceramic, because paper that flattens enamel can gouge acrylic. These amazon kits often supply one abrasive for a long list of surfaces. Try it on a hidden lip of the tray, and keep it on the paste. Sanding the surrounding acrylic leaves a dull patch you see at every shower.
The tray is split, not chipped. Is this still a kit?
A split runs through the shell, often with movement or a leak. A chip kit fills a surface loss. It leaves a split tray and a failed waste as they are. Run water and look below before you buy. If the ceiling stains, or the crack opens under your hand, book a bathroom fitter. Paste over the line can hide the stain while water still gets out.
I rent in England. Can I patch the bath?
In England, GOV.UK says baths, sinks and basins are the landlord’s fittings, and you repair them only if the agreement allows it. Tell the landlord about a chip you caused, and report a leak the same day. A seller bullet that mentions renters, as MendMight’s does, is not permission. Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland are outside that England page.
Is the repair food safe if I use the same kit on a sink?
None of these twelve listings includes a food-contact certificate. Screwfix describes Cramer’s CRA16080EN bathroom kit as not food safe, and that kit is a different product. A basin chip is a wash surface. The same paste on a chopping board goes beyond what these pages support.
