Outdoor or indoor Turkey flag

Updated: 20 October 2026

You want a Turkey flag outside the house for more than one afternoon, and the amazon.co.uk title already says outdoor. On the flags in this set, that word is a seller line on a light printed polyester cloth, not a season you can bank on. An outdoor turkey flag, in the sense a UK flag maker uses, is a heavier sewn cloth with a rope and toggle. The prints here weigh about 30 g to 80 g for a flag around 150 cm long. This page is the choice between indoors, a short spell outside, and a different flag entirely. The [Turkey flag comparison](/hub/flags/turkey-flag) lists the claims and the care lines. We read those listings and the maker guides below. We did not leave any of these flags up through a British winter. A qualifying purchase can earn a commission at no extra cost to you.

What outdoor means on these listings

Woiltryn says indoor or outdoor, and the seller adds waterproof and fade-resistant. Runesol says inside and outside, and weatherproof. AhfuLife says it will not fade after rain. BigTree’s large flag says outdoor decoration and UV resistant. YAAVAAW names the garden. RockParty says sun, wind, and rain. The BigTree bunting says fade-proof for prolonged outdoor exposure. None of those sentences is a test result. There is no hour count, no wind speed, and no measured fade. United Flags, outside this set, sells a budget Turkey 5 ft by 3 ft at £8.34 and describes it as indoor or light outdoor. Flag Superstore uses a similar line on a £4.99 polyester Turkey flag. Light outdoor means a dry afternoon or a sheltered wall, then back inside. The AZ FLAG desk flag does not belong in this argument. The listing says indoor use, the cloth is 15 cm by 10 cm, and the pole is a plastic stick in a base. What to check before you pay is in the Turkey flag buying guide.

A light print is a different cloth from a sewn flag

Flag Studio separates two maker cloths. Printed knitted polyester at about 115 gsm is their printed flag. Stitched cloth at about 155 gsm is the woven flag they treat as a different product, supplied with a rope and toggle. Hampshire Flag Company makes the same split in use: printed flags for events and temporary outdoor display, sewn flags for regular outdoor use. Those grams per square metre are the makers’ own cloth. They are not the figure printed on Woiltryn, AhfuLife, or RockParty. What this set prints is the weight of the whole item. AhfuLife is 30 g. Storm & Lighthouse is 60 g. Runesol, BigTree’s large flag, and YAAVAAW are 70 g. Woiltryn is 75 g. RockParty is 80 g. Even 80 g is still a printed polyester flag in an about £4.99 to £5.99 band, not a 155 gsm sewn flag. Do not borrow the makers’ life or wind numbers and attach them to these listings. Double-sided print matters more outdoors, because daylight comes through a thin flag. Woiltryn and RockParty state double-sided. Runesol, the four-corner flag, does not.

Indoor, a short outdoor spell, or a real pole flag

Keep it indoors when the flag is the desk set, when the only reviews you trust are a conservatory or a school hall, or when the dimension line says 21 cm by 14 cm and you are not sure a large flag will arrive. AhfuLife at 30 g with an outdoor claim is the clearest mismatch. YAAVAAW has the same size split. The bunting’s outdoor sentence is a seller claim. One review hung that string in a conservatory before a holiday. Use a short outdoor spell when you already have a rail or a bracket, the forecast is fair, and you will take the flag down. BigTree at 70 g, Woiltryn at 75 g, and RockParty at 80 g are the prints people describe as large cloth. A BigTree review used one as a windscreen cover and another saw a flag ripped down after a match. Those are reminders that the cloth is light. Which of those listings matches a wall or a desk is on the best Turkey flag page. Buy a sewn flag when the pole is up all season, the building is public, or you need the official 2:3 proportion rather than UK 5 ft by 3 ft. Flagmakers describes that 2:3 Turkey flag and a sewn 155 gsm option. That purchase is outside the nine listings ranked here. A rope and toggle is also absent from these parcels.

Bring it in, and follow the care line you bought

Hampshire’s care note for flags in general is the practical half of this choice: take the flag down when the wind is above the level you are willing to risk, and dry a wet flag before you store it. They state a wind threshold for their own range. That number is not copied onto a 70 g amazon print. If the flag is cracking like a whip, or it has been out in heavy rain, bring it in. A torn or badly faded Turkish flag is something Turkish protocol says not to fly. That is not a UK offence. Then follow the care line on the listing you bought, because they do not match. RockParty says hand wash, air dry, and do not bleach. Storm & Lighthouse says hand wash only. AhfuLife says a damp cloth and mild detergent, then air-dry. AZ FLAG says 30°C and a delicate iron. BigTree’s large flag says only iron. Woiltryn, YAAVAAW, Runesol, and the bunting give no wash method. Do not machine-wash a flag whose page never mentions a machine. The knots are on how to hang a Turkey flag. If the flag is only for a match night, hang it for the event and take it down after.

Common questions

Can I leave a £5 flag up all summer?
Not on the evidence in this set. The large prints are about £4.99 to £5.99 and about 30 g to 80 g. UK budget shops describe this class as indoor or light outdoor. A seller bullet that says waterproof is not a measured summer. Bring it in when the weather turns.
What does fade-resistant mean if nobody measured it?
On these pages it is a seller claim. AhfuLife, Woiltryn, RockParty, and the bunting use that sort of wording. None of the listing notes used here includes a fade test, an hour count, or a UV standard. Treat it as marketing until you have seen the cloth after real sun.
Is 30 g a normal weight for a 150 cm flag?
It is the listed weight of the AhfuLife flag, whose title says 150 cm by 90 cm. The other large flags here sit between 60 g and 80 g. Flag Studio’s printed cloth is described at about 115 gsm, and their sewn cloth at about 155 gsm. Those are different units and a different product. 30 g is light even inside this set.
When is a sewn flag the right spend?
When the flag will stay out in ordinary UK weather, or when you need a 2:3 flag rather than 5 ft by 3 ft. Makers point regular outdoor use at sewn cloth, often with a rope and toggle. These amazon listings are printed polyester without that kit. The sewn price is not on these pages.
Should I take it down in a gale?
Yes. A light print tears at the eyelets and twists into a rope. Take it down in high wind and when it is soaked, then dry it before you fold it. Hampshire gives that advice for flags generally. Do not wait for a seller’s waterproof line to be disproved on your railing.
Does double-sided matter outdoors?
It matters when daylight shows through the cloth. Woiltryn and RockParty state a double-sided print. Runesol, a likely fence flag because of its four corners, does not. A single-sided print can look dull from the street. The claim is still not a laboratory result.
Is the desk flag an outdoor product?
No. AZ FLAG states indoor use. The flag is 15 cm by 10 cm with a plastic desk base. The garden claims in this set belong to the large prints and, as a seller sentence only, to the bunting.
What care line should I follow?
The one on the listing you bought. Hand wash and air dry where that is written, a damp cloth where that is written, and no machine wash where the page is silent. Woiltryn and Runesol do not give a wash method. Do not borrow a 30°C line from the desk flag and use it on a different cloth.
