Turkey flag for football and national days

Updated: 20 October 2026

You are buying a Turkey flag for a date, not for a pole that stays up all year. The date might be a match, a school culture day, Victory Day on 30 August, or Republic Day on 29 October. A turkey flag for football is often the same printed polyester as a national-day flag. The mistake is buying a 150 cm cloth when you needed a desk flag, or leaving a match-night print outside until it tears. This page matches the format to how long the flag stays up. The [Turkey flag comparison](/hub/flags/turkey-flag) is the product table. We used the amazon.co.uk listings, Law 2429, and the public date notes below. We did not dress a stadium. The days people actually mean

Victory Day is 30 August. timeanddate describes it as a day when flags appear on shops and houses in Turkey, marking the 1922 Battle of Dumlupınar. Republic Day is 29 October. Law 2429, the Turkish holiday statute, makes 29 October the national holiday and starts that holiday at 13:00 on 28 October. In a UK house you are not obliged to follow that clock. If you are marking the day with family, the evening of the 28th is when people in Turkey have already begun, and the 29th is the day itself. Match day is not one of those dates. The flag comes down when the guests leave. Amazon titles in this set blur the two. YAAVAAW’s title packs the 2026 World Cup, Eurovision, and a football party into one listing. AhfuLife’s title pairs the World Cup with national day and the garden. Those are selling lines. They do not add a tournament badge unless the pictures show one. BigTree’s large-flag bullets name school parties and sport, and the notes describe a plain red field with a white crescent and star. A third date sits beside the celebrations. Turkish protocol half-masts the flag on 10 November, the anniversary of Atatürk’s death. That is Turkish protocol, not a UK legal duty. If you cannot half-mast, GOV.UK’s flying-flags guide allows a black mourning ribbon. You do not have to do either in a UK garden.

One night or a season

A one-night match, a culture day, or a single national day suits the printed flags in this set. They are about £4.99 to £5.99 for a large cloth, listed at roughly 30 g to 80 g. You hang one for the evening and take it down. A BigTree review mentions a school culture day and a flag that looked as shown. Another review says a flag was ripped down after an Italy versus England match. The cloth survived long enough to be used, and it did not survive being pulled down. That is the limit of a light print at a fixture. A season is the wrong job for these pages. If the flag will sit on a garden pole from the group stage through to a final, you are asking a £5 polyester sheet to do the work UK makers give to a sewn flag. Bring the print in between matches. Schools sit in the short-use camp. A culture day needs a flag that reads across a hall, then goes back in a cupboard. The review that names a school, on Storm & Lighthouse, is one of only five in that file. Which listing fits the place is on the best Turkey flag page.

One flag, a desk flag, or a string

Use one large flag when the place is a window, a railing you already have, or a pole that is already up. In this set that is the 90 cm by 150 cm class: Woiltryn, Runesol, BigTree’s large flag, or RockParty, after you have rejected the listings whose size lines say 21 cm by 14 cm. YAAVAAW and AhfuLife are the titles that shout about football, and they are also the titles with that size conflict. A World Cup in the title does not repair a dimension line. Use the desk flag when the Turkey flag sits on a table at a family meal or a classroom display. AZ FLAG is 15 cm by 10 cm with a plastic base, and the listing says indoor. It will not be seen from the street. Reviews call about £6.75 dear for that size, which is a fair complaint if you only needed colour on a buffet. It is the right object if a child needs a flag that stands up without tape. Use the string when the room is the point. BigTree bunting is thirty flags of about 14.5 cm by 22.5 cm on 10 m, at about £9.99. One review hung it in a conservatory before a holiday. That is a party length, not a stadium dressing. Skip the bunting if the photograph you want is one flag on a house.

Keep the national flag plain

A plain Turkey flag is a red field, a white crescent, and a white five-pointed star, with the emblem nearer the hoist. A World Cup title on YAAVAAW or AhfuLife does not, by itself, mean a tournament badge is printed on the cloth. If the gallery shows an extra logo, that is a different object from the national flag, and in England it steps away from the plain-flag case in GOV.UK’s guide. Proportion and consent limits are in the Turkey flag buying guide. Half-mast on 10 November stays optional in the UK. If you do mark the day, a black ribbon is the method GOV.UK allows where you cannot lower the flag. Do not fly a torn print and call it mourning. After the final whistle or the end of the 29th, the same flag can stay in a drawer. It should not stay on the railing. Check the holes before the next hang. A RockParty review found one hole where two were expected, and a Woiltryn review found holes on one edge only. How to tie the hoist is on how to hang a Turkey flag.

Common questions

What should I buy for a one-night match?
A large printed flag if you have a window or a rail, the AZ FLAG desk flag if the flag is for the table, or the 10 m bunting if you are dressing a room. Take it down afterwards. The about £4.99 to £5.99 prints are for that short use. They are a poor cloth to leave up until the next fixture.
What should a school ask for on culture day?
One large flag for a hall wall, or the desk flag for a classroom table. A BigTree review mentions a culture day, and a short Storm & Lighthouse review mentions a school. Ask whether they need 150 cm of cloth or a 15 cm flag with a base. The bunting suits a corridor if someone can hang 10 m safely.
Is Republic Day 29 October?
Yes. Law 2429 sets 29 October as the national holiday and starts it at 13:00 on 28 October. In the UK you choose your own hours. The 29th is the day people mean when they ask for a Republic Day flag. You can use the same plain flag you would hang for a match.
Is Victory Day 30 August?
Yes. timeanddate records 30 August as Victory Day in Turkey, marked with flags on buildings there. A UK household can use the same plain flag for that day. You do not need a separate product from the one you would hang for a match, as long as the design stays the national flag.
Do I half-mast a Turkish flag on 10 November in the UK?
You do not have to. Half-mast that day is Turkish protocol, not a UK legal duty. If you want to mark it and you cannot lower the flag, GOV.UK’s guide allows a black mourning ribbon. A torn flag is not the right stand-in.
Is bunting better than one flag for a hall?
For a room, yes. Thirty small flags on a 10 m string cover a length that one 150 cm flag cannot. For a window or a house front, one large flag is the clearer photograph. The bunting file has six reviews and a material line that also says silk, so buy it as decoration, not as a specified outdoor cloth.
Will a World Cup title mean the flag shows a tournament badge?
Not by itself. YAAVAAW and AhfuLife put football and the World Cup in the title. The design notes in this set still describe a crescent and star where the seller describes the print. Check the pictures. An added badge is a different buy from the plain national flag.
Can the same flag stay up after the match?
It can be stored and used again. It should not be left on an exposed rail between fixtures. These cloths are light prints. Bring them in, dry them, and check the eyelets before the next hang. A season outside is a sewn flag, not this set.
